I doh think he mucked it up... if some club want to pay 20 mil for Carroll then I definitely say sell him, bottom line is that he's not a natural fit for the style of play that Rodgers favors, that's not a knock on Carroll.

I also prefer Dembele to Dempsey.

Like ah jump the gun on Gaston Ramirez lol..he go be there in a timing

anyway welcome to Fabio Borini  :beermug:
next in line might be Theo Walcott..also woulda rather seen us chase Dembele instead of Dempsey
hopefully Andy Carroll will be staying, but that looks like a long shot now since its very clear that he's no longer wanted.
I going on record and say if we inconsistent and the brand is shit this year..Rodgers should be sacked..he piss me off how he handle the problem of Carroll not being able to supposedly fit into his philoposy.

juve dont want ramirez especially for that kind of money..he's a decent young player but doesnt generate much excitement...now stevan jovetic on the other hand...poisonous...

I know what 'Moneyball' means... ah waiting to hear how it relates to Liverpool FC and their player acquisition policy under Dalglish and Comolli.  In other words, don't believe everything yuh read in de British press, that's the first thing they latch onto in their zeal to portray the new American ownership as clueless.

Juventus plan Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez bid

By Ben Smith
BBC Sport

Juventus have told Robin van Persie they want to pair him with Liverpool's Luis Suarez, as they bid to lure him to Italy in the face of strong interest from Manchester United and City.
The Serie A champions have had an initial enquiry rebuffed by Arsenal, who also dismissed an opening formal bid from United out of hand on Friday.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have asked to be kept informed of the situation.
United's bid is believed to be around £10m, £15m below Arsenal's valuation.

We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment

Sir Alex Ferguson
The Gunners' 28-year-old captain has a year left on his contract with all three interested clubs offering lucrative financial packages, more than doubling Van Persie's current wage.

Van Persie scored 41 goals in 53 games for club and country last season and was named Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' player of the year.

Arsenal had been hoping the Dutchman would sign a new deal this summer but he shocked them last month by announcing he would not extend his contract, saying he disagreed with the way the club should move forward.

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta and president Andrea Agnelli are aware the Dutchman is not, however, motivated simply by money and - as well as offering a package worth £190,000 a week - believe it is the possibility of playing alongside Suarez that could sway his thinking.
If Juventus can secure a deal for Van Persie they will turn their attentions to Suarez and intend to raise the necessary funds by selling striker Alessandro Matri to AC Milan.

Liverpool will take a dim view of Juventus's interest in Suarez and have no intention of allowing their prized Uruguayan forward to leave the club.
Suarez is under contract at Anfield until 2016 - but the Reds are keen to tie him down to an even longer deal.

Van Persie at Arsenal
2004-05: 41 games, 10 goals
2005-06: 38 games, 11 goals
2006-07: 31 games, 13 goals
2007-08: 23 games, 9 goals
2008-09: 44 games, 20 goals
2009-10: 20 games, 10 goals
2010-11: 33 games, 22 goals
2011-12: 48 games, 37 goals

The 25-year-old has scored 15 goals since joining Liverpool in January 2011, but was also banned for eight matches after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra in December of that year.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has held preliminary talks with the player as negotiations continue over a new contract.
However, Juventus believe a bid of around £28m may tempt Liverpool to negotiate.
Such is the strength of Juventus's interest in Suarez that they are likely to make an offer for the 25-year-old whatever Van Persie decides to do.

Privately there is a growing confidence at Juventus that both players will move to Turin this summer.
On Friday, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the club has made a bid for Van Persie.

"There are other clubs interested in the player," Ferguson told MUTV. "We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."
The Gunners are about to embark on a three-match tour of Asia, but Van Persie will remain in London to work on his fitness.

Shares of Standard Chartered Slide Amid Money Laundering Inquiry

By MARK SCOTT
10:30 a.m. | Updated

LONDON - Shares of Standard Chartered tumbled on Tuesday as investors reacted to accusations that the British bank schemed with the Iranian government for nearly a decade to launder $250 billion.

In morning trading in London, Standard Chartered's stock fell by almost 24 percent as analysts estimated that the firm may have to pay around $5.5 billion in costs related to the money laundering case. It was the sharpest one-day decline in the bank's shares since at least 1988, according to Bloomberg data. By late afternoon in London, the shares recovered a bit, trading down 17 percent.

The news comes at a difficult time for British banks.

Barclays agreed to a $450 million settlement with American and British officials in June after some of its traders and senior executives were found to have alterws the London interbank offered rate, or Libor, for financial gain.

HSBC, a rival bank, apologized last month for not cracking down soon enough on money laundering activities in the United States. David Bagley, the head of compliance for the British bank since 2002, resigned because of the scandal.

Standard Chartered, which relies on operations in fast-growing emerging markets for the majority of its profits, had sidestepped many of the problems facing European financial institutions, including a fall in trading activity related to Europe's debt crisis.

Yet its reputation now stands to be tarnished after having been ensnared in a case that New York State's top banking regulator, the Department of Financial Services, said had left the United States financial system vulnerable to terrorists and corrupt regimes.

The state regulator accused the bank of masking more than 60,000 transactions for Iranian banks and corporations, as the firm pocketed millions of dollars in fees.

Senior management at the 150-year-old bank used its New York branch "as a front for prohibited dealings with Iran - dealings that indisputably helped sustain a global threat to peace and stability," according to a regulatory order sent to the bank.

In response, the British bank said it "strongly rejects the position and portrayal of facts" by the state regulator.

Fines connected to the money laundering case may cost Standard Chartered around $1.5 billion, according to Cormac Leech, banking analyst with Liberum Capital in London.

The firm could lose an additional $1 billion from a cutback in operations connected to Iran, as well as $3 billion in market value if some of the bank's senior executives, including its chief executive, Peter Sands, are forced to resign over the scandal, Mr. Leech added.

Along with the financial penalties, Standard Chartered may also have its New York banking license revoked because of the activities. Analysts say that prospect remains unlikely, as United States authorities have focused their attention on monetary fines for the British bank.

Unlike other European financial giants that have suffered from a downturn in trading activity, Standard Chartered reported an 11.3 percent rise in net profit in the first half of the year, to $2.86 billion.

Before the money laundering accusations were made public, shares in the firm have outperformed other financial institutions. Over the last 12 months, Standard Chartered's stock has risen 10.4 percent compared with a 12.8 percent drop in the Stoxx Europe 600 Banks index.

So Standard Chartered settle by paying $450 million dollars...

Rodgers signed his third player by stealing Heerenveen's Oussama Assaidi from under Ajax and Fulham.  This on the heels of signing Joe Allen from Swansea and Fabio Borini from Roma.  Charlie Adam might move to Everton, while Rodgers looks to bring in Christian Tello from Barca, and Nuri Sahin from Madrid.

We ent making no big splash this summer... but ah like the moves Rodgers making.

Nah from what I gather is no hoff scene... dude just whoring after money so let him go Southampton and get it.  I woulda completely understand if he blank 'Pool for Spurs... but to blank both teams to go to a newly promoted club that likely won't survive relegation?  Not sure who advising that kid.

...meanwhile, Fulham fine Dempsey for allegedly refusing to play.  The thot plickens...

Truth is the game was in the balance until Phil Dowd intervened.  Not blaming him, but it had a huge effect.  We were already on the back leg down a goal, then chasing the play from 20-25 yards behind he determined that Long went down in the box, when from replays he was just outside.  Then to issue a straight red, presumably as a denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity/last defender... itself was kinda iffy as another defender was coming in from the right.  Even so, Reina saved the penalty.

The penalty on Skrtel was an abject farce.  Skrtel has the ball at his feet (lingering in possession) when Long nipped in from behind and took it from him and in doing so was inadvertently tripped (Skrtel was just about to pass the ball and in doing so kicked Long's heel instead).  Yes he got tripped in the box, but Skrtel had the ball up to the split second before their feet tangled... he never even knew Long was there.  Game was over for sure after that.
