seems like it was a stinker..

1907: Player Rater - for what it's worth, Franck Ribery's done the best with 6.33 - surely one of the lowest winning scores in the long, illustrious history of Player Rater. Adrian Mutu is Romania's top scorer with 6.26, but if ever a match warranted a string of sub-seven scores, it was this one.

1903: Oh goody, it's time to pick the Champagne Moment of the match. We've plumped for something that happened before the game even started - Romanian tennis legend Ilie Nastasie and French football legend and Uefa president Michel Platini welcoming each other with a big smacker. Really, it's just better that we didn't pick anything from the game, don't you agree?

1900: "Shambles. Zizou must be turning in his retirement seat! This the exact thing France did in the last World Cup. Except now instead of Togo & South Korea they have Netherland & Italy!"

9th minute no goals yet, but both teams seem willing to attack. Interesting opening few minutes.

A man after my own heart.  Holland kills me with their perennial poor results but I with them.

van nistelrooy actually was unable to score in the penalty box

I have to give Ruud credit for not diving (imagine if the tables were turned, or if was ah Argentine in dat box) when Buffon made the slightest of contact with him on that foray.  Good sport  :beermug:

was offside
question is does the italian that was injured behind the touch line still count
if he does he kept everyone on side
if not then it was offside

If he was off the field then he's not a part of play...should have been offsides in my book.

As I type Sneijder in an absolutely clinical counter attack put the Dutch ahead 2-0...incredible near post placement past Buffon after a brilliant left sided run by Van Bronckhorst, who started his run from his own box... and who played it right side to Kuyt who deftly knocked it down into the path of Sneijder for the one-time half-volley into a 14-inch window to Buffon's left and just inside the near post.

ok then what is to prevent defenders from just stepping over the end line during play to draw men offside?
he just went down and stayed there, he was not taken off.  Just happened to land there
i say he keeps everyone onside
i think touches should post this in this you be the ref thread  ;)

Maybe it's within the linesman's discretion in that situation to make the call.  If he sees the defender just hop over the endline to play a man offsides then perhaps he can choose to not raise his flag.  Not sure that was the case here though.

nah the fella went down hurt from the first cross (he rolled over the line, but it was momentum that take him there) and was still on the ground (behind the line) when the ball went in

the lines men have not made a good start to this tournament

look like even the holland players were appealing 4 offside lol . van nistleroy spent more time looking at the line man than celebrating the goal
