Great game and great point by Barca on the road. Ricardo was in amazing form and Messi and Eto'o missed sitters in the 6 yard box. Real Betis played some good ball in the first half, and looked bouyed by winning the Seville derby last week at Sevilla. And Victor Valdes had to make fine saves too as Betis made chances on the counter.

Barca put out a team and a formation that was not ready in the earlies. Caceres and Pique at center back have plenty to learn, and are the second string behind Puyol and Marquez. But they look assured in the 2nd half. Hleb replaced an in form Henry and was quiet. Keita just back from injury as well. Guardiola trying to keep men fresh and rotating the squad nicely, but the squad today was missing too many big guns and inevitably took some time to settle. In the end..the fight back was deserved and finally you can't say Messi save Barca skin.

Is a long season. Soemtimes yuh just hadda take a point on the road and cool it.

I read where th coach of Betis says he sees signs of recovery. Maybe I cannot argue as he with teh squad every day. But for me they were not solid defensively and only really survived with a draw due to the outstanding goalkeeping of Ricardo. We are not talking about long range shooting, but mainly shots from inside the box. Barca did take long to settle but in truth Bets could have gotten an embarassing cut ass.

yeah...Ricardo did a superb job. But many of his saves were routine and plenty of Barca's attempts were at his near post. There were maybe only 2 or 3 attempts that were genuinely breathtaking saves that looked like they woulda score on any other day. I have to agree with Betis' coach. They won at Sevilla last week and tied against Barca yesterday. Even if the 2nd half against Barca was shaky, that is a vast improvement in results for the squad and they played 3 out of 4 good halves of football. If Oliveira had kept his cool and stayed onside on that one counter early in the 2nd half, it would have and probably should have been 3-0. Oliveira and Ennua then both missed one on ones with Valdez on the counter due to some very fine goalkeeping by the Barca keeper. So even though Barca made chance after chance after the offside attempt by Oliveira (seconds later Eto'o had a sweet turn in the box and missed from 6 yards out and Barca went on from there), it's hard to see how you could say a Betis side that could just have easily scored 5 goals woulda get a cutass. 5-5 maybe shoulda be the score instead of 2-2  ;D It's kinda like the arguments people been having about T&T v El Salvador and what happened after Stern's pk miss. Rightly or not, Betis will feel that if Oliveira had held is run and scored, or if he and Ennnua had put away any one of those two chances, they'd have gone on to win.

Unlike the commentators who're trying to hype the race for the Spanish title I think it's too little too late- but Madrid is playing some football now that would suggest that they can make the return leg of the clasico a bit more interesting than the first edition, and that it''ll be fair game against Liverpool in the CL.

Except for a few rare occasions today (especially down the stretch when they shut it down), Madrid looked as solid and convincing as any on the continent.
