Mucurapo, led by a Mutah Taylor hat-trick, totally outclassed Arima today 6-0 at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in the RBTT National Intercol quarter-finals. ‘Compre’ also sent a clear warning to Presentation College San Fernando who awaits them in the semi-final after they defeated Scarborough.
The semi-final is scheduled for Thursday 27th November.
The game was all Mucurapo from the opening kick-off with the North Zone Champions proving to be too much for their opponents. Arima could do very little to contain Mucurapo's attacking threat and had absolutely no way to deal with the silky skills of Kevin Molino and Mutah Taylor who ripped the Arima defense to shreds on many occasions.
Mucurapo opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Taylor grabbed his first of the day after a surging run from the right hand side where he dribbled past four Arima defenders and blasted a low shot past Joseph Craig in the Arima goal.
Terrance Clarke grabbed his team's second goal in the 27th minute in an almost identical fashion to Taylor's opening strike except Clarke's run was down the center rather than from the right hand side.
Three minutes later Kevin Molino joined in the goal scoring act with another run from deep in midfield and after skillfully riding the challenges of a couple defenders, he created enough space for a right footed shot and buried it past the goalkeeper.
The Arima technical team then implemented a tactical change at this point, pulling back their powerful attacker Kendes Garcia into the defense in an effort to stop leaking goals. There were also two defensive substitutions as Arima looked to tighten things up at the back. The tactics would work at least until the end of the first half as Mucurapo were unable to add to their tally before the half time whistle.
‘Compre’ picked up right where they left off upon the resumption, and five minutes after the restart they went up 4-0.
Taylor grabbed his second goal of the day when a ball was allowed to roll onto his right boot from a set piece and he simply rifled it into the Arima goal from just outside the penalty box giving Craig absolutely no chance.
Clarke and Molino where involved in Mucurapo’s fifth goal which again came from a set piece when Clarke whipped in a free kick low cross across the box. Molino beat the offside trap and was left unmarked in the box and had the simple job of directing the cross into the back of the net.
Mucurapo withdrew many of their regulars at this point but still remained very much in control of the game. Arima could muster only one decent goal scoring chance in the game and it came from a Garcia freekick which forced an acrobatic save from Michael Duff.
Taylor completed the rout in the 89th minute when he made his way into the penalty box, shifted his weight to send the defender the wrong way and blasted a powerful shot towards goal. Craig got a touch to it but was unable to keep the shot from passing under his body and into the goal.
This sealed the game on a day that Arima would probably want to forget.
