Connection Win Again—Drawing Closer To League Title.
By: Joel Villafana.Vibe CT 105 W Connection are drawing very close to capturing the 2005 Pro League title—yesterday they registered another victory easily getting past Caledonia AIA Fire by 4 goals to 1.
Connection dominated proceedings as usual and took the lead in the 15th minute with a well worked effort finished off by captain Earl Jean.
Connection’s lead was doubled when Gefferson Goulart was pulled down in the area and the Brazilian himself stepped up and converted the penalty—Connection leading 2-0 in the 28th minute.
Then Goulart’s fellow Brazilian Ronaldo Viana got into the act and scored items in the 42nd and 58 minute and Connection leading 4-0 and cruising at this stage.
The Savonetta boys then locked up shop—but the plucky, but inconsistent Caledonia scored a consolation goal in the first minute of added on injury time with a Titus Elva strike. Connection now surging ahead to 36 points in the standings and its now just a matter of time before they clinch the League title.
Army Sinks Stars AgainA 3rd minute strike by former National under 23 striker Kevon Carter proved enough to give Defence Force their second consecutive victory over National Quarries North East Stars.
The Army Coast Guard outfit prevailed over the Stars last Friday in the FCB Cup coming away 2-1 winners. The Army moved to 21 points and into 3rd place on the standings behind W Connection and Jabloteh. Carter took full advantage of a slack North East Stars defence as they failed to clear the ball.
After the early goal the game was filled with missed chances—as both teams had their opportunities to score—North East probably deserved a share of the spoils—as Charles Pollard returning to North East Stars Ranks had the best opportunity but his header was guided over the bar.
Later in the 2nd half Michael Alexis also had a perfect opportunity to draw
the Stars level after receiving an in-swinging cross by Jerren Nixon and he
headed it wide. So in the end the boys from Tetron held on to come away with the three points.
Petrotrin Get The Better Of TobagoPetrotrin continued in their winning ways as they scored a 3-1 win over
Tobago United. The ‘oilmen’ got all their goals in the 1st half—with Jerol Forbes netted a double opening the scoring in the 11th minute and in the 38th minute. Jamal Ayers rounded off petrotrin’s goal scoring with a 34th minute item—Tobago got a 24th minute consolation thanks to Ashford Leggerton.
