Training camp opens with plenty of new faces

Since the Convey and Hernandez news has been covered, here is a brief recap of the opening day of training camp.
Not much to report actually, at least as far as practice went. Darren Huckerby is still in England so he can participate in a Norwich charity event. Nick Garcia was busy attending to new son Cruz, who was born last week (congrats to Nick and family). Peter Byers still hasn’t signed his contract, so he was not there. Then again, Joe Cannon hasn’t signed yet either, and he was there, so go figure.
As for who looked sharp, I really could’t tell you, as I was too busy trying to figure out who was who. I am hearing that the Quakes have high hopes for one of last year’s midseason pickups, Davide Somma. The guy looks to be in good shape if nothing else. Draft picks Brad Ring and Quincy Amarikwa were in attendance, along with a slew (yes, that word again, and I mean it this time) of trialists. Here is brief rundown on the invitees.
Ancil Farrier - Trinidadian defender who went to Southern Connecticut State
Will Beague - Forward from Algonquin College.
Warren Ukah - Forward who played with the Atlanta Silverbacks in the USL-1 last year. Had no goals in two games, but had five goals each of the two previous seasons.
San Reynolds - Goalkeeper who was with Chivas USA last year.
Andrew Weber - No, not the award-winning composer, but the goalkeeper who was on the books of the Montreal Impact last year, and basically spent the season backing up Matt Jordan. Had a cup of coffee with D.C. United a few years ago.
Matt Watson - English forward who played in the USL-1 last year with the Carolina Railhawks. Scored one goal in 25 games.
Alfonso Montagalvan - Midfielder from UCSB, who hails from nearby Gilroy. Scored four goals in 22 matches this past season.
Jesus Flores - 21-year-old Mexican midfielder who was with Hungarian side F.C. Tatabanya last year. Yes, bizarre. Even more bizarre is that Tatabanya’s manager is none other than Octavio Zambrano, who once managed the L.A. Galaxy and the MetroStars.
Matt Murphy - Cal-Irvine midfielder/forward who had 11 goals and eight assists last season.
