Sports Ministry unveil Women’s World Cup tickets
By Shari John (T&T Guardian)

The upcoming Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup (WWC) will have the full support of the sports ministry and the government by extension, according to Stacy Roopnarine, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSYA). “We are prepared to support in any way we can, especially for women in any sport,” said Roopnarine at the unveiling of the ticket for the WWC yesterday at MSYA Building, Abercromby Street in Port-of-Spain.

“The plan is to develop sport in T&T so that we can develop a viable sporting industry,” added Roopnarine, who was representing Anil Roberts, the newly appointed Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs. Roberts, who took over as minister from Gary Hunt, was unavailable due to other commitments. The 16-team World Cup will take place from September 5-25 in T&T and tickets are currently available online at www.fifa.com or by calling 1-800-fans.

“Today is a great moment for T&T in sports, because not only does this signify the receipt of a ticket for the U-17 Women’s World Cup, but T&T has the pleasure of hosting this year and it also signifies what we as a government intend to focus on going forward,” said Roopnarine. “It signifies the marriage of sport and youth, especially for young women.” Also at the launch was Minister of Works and Transport, Jack Warner, who was present in his capacity as Fifa vice-president, and T&T Football Federation president, Oliver Camps. After purchase, tickets can be collected at the Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya, on June 26, July 31 and August 28 with a venue in Tobago for distribution still to be decided.

Those words to me are the most important in the whole statement. If they really plan on making sport in T&T a viable sporting industry it could do wonders for the youth and the country. It should improve the crime situation, the unemployment situation and bring in money to the country (if done properly).
Read a report one time that stated Brazil economy gets billions of dollars from the transfer of Footballers both from the transfer and the money they send back into the Brazil economy and through supporting their families back home.
If we could support the youth in a serious way where football, track and field, tennis, etc is concerned it could really help the country in a massive way. But the gov't would have to get involved because depending on the private sector won't cut it.

Record breaking sales for U17 Women’s World Cup

Record breaking sales for U17 Women’s World Cup
By Shari John (T&T Guardian)

Less than a month after launching its ticket sales campaign, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Fifa Under 17 Women’s World Cup has confirmed record-breaking sales. The TSC was launched earlier this month and already deputy CEO Nataki Kerr says the sales figures have “exceeded all expectations.” “Our ticketing department formulated a number of possible sales target points to determine the success of the campaign. I am pleased to report we have reached our target goal for the month of June.”

Kerr said the Local Organising Committee was committed to ensuring that it has sold out stadia during the tournament. She said one hundred and fifty thousand tickets had been printed for the tournament, which will kick off on September 5. LOC Chairman Oliver Camps said he viewed the development as a positive sign. “We can view these results as an indicator of great things to come. “In the middle of a Fifa Men’s World Cup, to have reached our target is a tremendous achievement. If we continue along this path we will meet all our target expectations.”

For the opening match between T&T and Chile, tickets will be priced at $60 for the covered stands while the uncovered sections (on both September 5 and 25) will cost $40. For the other matches, the cost of admission for the covered section is $40 and, for the uncovered stands, patrons will only have to pay $20 to enter. LOC Officials say that prices had been reduced to ensure that the event can be enjoyed by all. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fifa.com or by calling 1-800-fans. Online purchases must be accompanied by credit card (preerably VISA) information for payment, providing that the holder of the credit card is purchasing the tickets.

Persons will need to provide their full names, date of birth, nationality, identification card/passport number and a photocopy (of purchase confirmation) to collect the tickets, which can be obtained at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya on June 26, July 31 and August 28. A total of 16 teams will be participating in the event, which will feature matches at the five major stadia in T&T—the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo; the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima; the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella; the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva and the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

If Jack resign from all committees since his appointment, why is he starring for the TTFF in this picture? That is a clear conflict of interest if the Minister of Works is able to write to the Minister of Sport for money for the TTFF. That places them at an unfair advantage in comparison to other sporting bodies.

I mean, we all know that is how it works anyway and as special advisor he is not in an official capacity. I just thought with all the controversy over his different posts he would at least know to take a back seat and pull the strings without being visibly involved.
