SANTO DOMINGO (2010 Centrobasket Championship) - The Belize national team opened the 2010 Centrobasket Championship with a win over Trinidad & Tobago 80-71 in a game played at Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Milt Palacio and Alex Carcamo netted 16 each while Richard Troyer added 14 for Belize who won a Silver medal in the 2009 COCABA Championship.

Kibwe Trim made 7 of the first 17 points in the first quarter for Trinidad as they won 17-14.

In the second quarter Belize made a 17-6 run to have a 36-26 lead and finished the first half up 40-38. Richard Troyer had 11 and Milt Palacio 7 for Belize.

Palacio netted 7 points in the third quarter as Belize took off and finished up 63-54 and after that they never lost the lead.

In the loss Ian Young had 15 and Kibwe Trim 13.

SANTO DOMINGO (2010 Centrobasket Championship) - The British Virgin Islands defeated the US Virgin Islands 59-50 in game two of day one in the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men.

The first quarter ended tied at 14 and the tie was broken quickly into the second quarter with a three pointer by  Halstead Chiverton. The British kept the lead and finished up 29-24 as Chiverton had 14 points and Kennedy Bass 9.

Their best performance offensively came in the third quarter as they won it 20-12 and the USVI never recovered.

Chiverton ended with 23 points, Kennedy Bass 14 and Steve Parillon 11 for BVI.

In the loss Walter Hodge was the only one in double figures with 16.

SANTO DOMINGO (2010 Centrobasket Championship) - The Cuban national team dominated Mexico 82-62 to win in day one of the 2010 Centrobasket Championship for Men.

After a 10-10 tie with five minutes left, the Cubans made a 19-5 run to finish the first quarter up 29-15. Orestes Torres had 6 points and Allens Jemmott 5 for the Cubans who took advantage of their free throw trips thanks to their aggresive attack as they shot 11-12.

The Cubans maintained a double digit lead during the rest of the game thanks to their dominance in the rebounds and excellent defense that made their transition offense easily. The first half ended 54-31 and rthe third quarter 68-49.

In the win Allens Jemmott had 22 points, Andy Boffil 12 while Orestes Torres and Yoan Luis Haiti netted 10 each.

The Mexicans had Gustavo Ayon with 16 points, Jovan Harris 15 and Omar Quintero 11.

these islands depend on foreign base players and coaches so is who have the higher caliber foreign base.Obviously Jamaica and Puerto Rico are the leaders in this with some NBA players on their roster.Trinidad is way behind in the recruiting process.
