Already one of the best defensive teams in the United Soccer Leagues, Louisville City FC flexed its muscle in Wednesday's 1-0 U.S. Open Cup win over Lansing United.

Backup keeper Greg Ranjitsingh, a four-year standout at Mercer University, posted his second clean sheet in as many appearances for the first-year franchise, the other coming during a preseason game against Lindsey Wilson College.

Though Ranjitsingh hasn't appeared in a regular-season USL match -- and likely won't again when Louisville City FC plays at 8:30 p.m. Sunday against rival Saint Louis FC -- he's added depth to a unit with four shutouts in eight games with starter Scott Goodwin between the posts.

"Greg is someone who we really like," said coach James O'Connor. "He works really hard and he's got tremendous potential. We're really excited about Greg as a prospect. It's great that we have such good keepers in Greg and Scott. And Greg will definitely push Scott and he can learn a lot from Scott because Scott's and excellent keeper."

Goodwin opened the season with a shutout of Saint Louis back on March 28. The clubs, in addition to Sunday's game on the road, play again May 30 at Louisville Slugger Field, continuing a rivalry dubbed "The King's Cup."

While Louisville (4-1-3) has the USL's best goal differential -- 14 scored to just four allowed -- O'Connor's team is still seeking its first win, having lost once and drawn in two other matches.

Saint Louis (3-3-1) enters the week having dropped a 2-1 decision to Toronto FC II in its last USL outing.
