National Super League

Joe Public stung late

Jahhan Hernandez scored with just four minutes left in regulation time to hand home team WASA FC a 1-0 victory over previous leaders Joe Public in a blink/bmobile National Super League match on Sunday at WASA Ground, St Joseph.

Defences dominated the hard-fought game and neither team was able to create many clear chances throughout the encounter.

Former Trinidad and Tobago national team striker Andre Toussaint carved out Joe Public's best opportunity, a square ball across the goal mouth with five minute left, then saw a teammate sky his shot over the WASA cross bar.

Making full use of the reprieve, WASA launched an attack up the left flank, the left midfielder playing a diagonal pass to the centre of the penalty area where striker Michael Lee Celestine sent the ball further wide to overlapping Hernandez, who got the match-winning goal with a low shot to the near post.

Victory gave WASA a share of the lead on seven points, along with Tobago's Stokely Vale FC and Real Maracas, who edged newcomers Biche United 2-1 at St Augustine Senior Secondary School Ground.

And having suffered a first defeat in three matches, Joe Public are now fourth on seven points.
