Speyside Secondary and Scarborough Secondary lifted the first InterCol titles among the boys and girls teams, following wins over Signal Hill Secondary and Bishop’s High, respectively in the Tobago Zone finals.

In the girls’ contest Jahmila Edwards and Aaliyah Charles scored first half goals, before Njemile Charles and Jeanile Lawrence completed another comfortable win, this time, 4-0 for Scarborough.

Scarborough added the biggest trophy in school girls’ football to the league crown it recorded in the Tobago Zone recently. The school from Tobago’s capital was also close to capturing the Big-Four title recently as well, but the team lost 2-0 to St Augustine Secondary.

In the second match in Tobago, Speyside Secondary and Signal Hill were locked 2-2 at the half, before the former went on a rampage to pick up the prestigious title. Top scorer Brandon Benjamin notched a brace for the winning team, while Weah Adams, Quanc Frank and Kerri McDonald got one each.

Akeil Frank and Ackel Carrington scored in the first half for Signal Hill.

There was also action in the Central Zone, yesterday, but at the semifinal stage, with Chaguanas North easing into the final with a 3-0 win over ASJA Boys. The opening double-header match at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, however, was less straightforward. However, in the end, Carapichaima found itself in a familiar place in the final after defeating Presentation College of Chaguanas in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw at full time.

Today, eight teams from the North and South Zones will be seeking their spots in one of two InterCol zonal finals. In the North Zone, St Anthony’s College and East Mucurapo will clash at St Mary’s College Ground, Serpentine Road, from 3.30 pm, while Trinity College and St Mary’s meet at Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo Road.

In a highly anticipated encounter, Premier Division and Big-Four champion Naparima College will vie for a spot in another final against Pleasantville Secondary in the last-four stage in the South Zone, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, from 2 pm.

Two hours later, Presentation College of San Fernando and  St Benedict’s College will face off in the second double-header match.
