Army 10 times too good for Tobago

Tobago United are the victims of biggest defeat of the season after they were mutilated 10-0 by visitors Defence Force at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Thursday. Devon Jorsling, now leading the goalscoring standings with 17 goals, netted a first half hattrick while Aklie Edwards and Kevon Carter added doubles to furnish Defence Force.

Christopher Durity and Richard Roy shared pieces of the pie notching a goal each.

However the Army didn’t move a nudge on the standings remaining eight, now with 25 points and despite having the leading goalscorer, the Tetron based men are struggling for a Big Six position.

Tobago United, seemingly heading into the direction of their past conceding goals in double figures are definitely out of the Big Six race sitting at the bottom with just 11 points after 22 matches.

Ninth placed Ma Pau SC drew with home team United Petrotrin 1-1 at the Ato Boldon Stadium with Sherron Joseph opening the scoring in the 16th minute for the Woodbrook based team.

Ian Bennett got the equalising item for the Oilmen sitting sixth on the table with 31 points tied with St Ann’s Rangers on points and closely followed by Joe Public, 30 points and two matches in hand.

As for Joe Public, the Eastern Lions suffered a 2-1 loss against Neal and Massy Caledonia AIA with Kendal Velox netting the 67th minute winner after Kerry Baptiste, from the penalty spot, levelled Jamaal Perry’s 46th minute opening item.

Caledonia moved up to third with 34 points but can’t bank on a Big Six spot just yet as a number of teams North East Stars(32), rangers(31) and United Petrotrin(31) are bunched up.

League leaders CLICO San Juan Jabloteh and W Connection are already safely into the Big Six category with 49 and 45 points respectively. Both teams met on Thursday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium where Connection edged the leaders 1-0.

But the most interesting result of Round Three Match Day Four was across in the sister isle in a demolishing attack by the Defence Force which left the Tobagonians with 10 goals to think about—inclusive of an own goal by Jamal Jack in the 60th minute.

 W Connection cut Jabloteh's lead.
By: Ian Prescott (Express).

W Connection FC have cut CLICO San Juan Jaboteh's lead to just four points and can further reel in the T&T Pro League leaders with another victory today against United Petrotrin.

W Connection brought themselves firmly back into contention on Thursday night, scoring a 1-0 victory over Jabloteh at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain.

The visitors took a 20th minute lead through Dominican Republic striker Jonathan Frias and held their advantage despite the best efforts of the league leaders.

Brazilian Jose Luis Seabra provided the perfect cross to diminutive Frias, who made it look easy when running into the penalty area and stroking the ball past Jabloteh goalkeeper Cleon John.

W Connection, with 45 points from 21 matches, have now cut Jabloteh's lead to just four points and have played a match less than their closest rivals.

Both W Connection and Jabloteh set out with intent to grab victory two nights ago and it was Jabloteh who went close first, when in just the second minute striker Jerol Forbes hit a powerful shot towards goal, but unfortunately saw the ball deflect off his teammate Elijah Manners and head wide of goal.

W Connection later settled and also had their moments. Striker Andre Toussaint went close, but also had his shot deflected, and Brazilian Ronald Viana had two good chances in the first half, first hitting over the bar, and later taking his low shot just pass the Jabloteh far post.

Frias then gave W Connection what turned out to be the winning goal on 20 minutes.

Jabloteh put everything into getting an equaliser early in the second half and Jason Marcano went close with a glancing header. But, the defending Pro League champions were reduced to ten players when referee Gordon Maloney gave central defender Karlon Murray marching orders in the 76th minute. Murray, was a disappointed man after picking up his second yellow card when he felled Viana.

The advantage then shifted back to W Connection, but keeper John prevented the South team from extending the lead by stopping Frias on a couple of occasions.
