W Connection coach Stuart Charles Fervier firmly believes that his charges have what it takes to defeat Jamaican football club Harbour View on Friday and advance to the final of Caribbean Club Championship.

Speaking with ttproleague.com mere hours after returning to this country from a pre-season tour of Brazil, the St Lucian born coach stated that although his team is not as physically prepared as he would like, he believes that their mental strength is capable of overcoming the Jamaicans.

“No doubt they are a tough team and play a very physical game but we have beaten them twice before and it should be no different on Friday especially with the experiences our boys gained recently”, Fervier said.

The coach further added that the 2007 Pro League runners-up possess a full strength and relatively injury free squad of players including national goalkeeper Jan Michael-Williams.

The team would however be without the services of Striker Mathew Bartholomew and Midfielder Aaron Downing who would be unavailable for selection since they would be heading to Belgium to pick up professional contracts shortly, a move praised by the coach.

“Some people might look at this as a blow to the team but we are really happy for them because we are a club that seeks to develop young players to take them to a higher level”, he emphasized.
Fervier further hinted that his strategy for the game would be simply to possess the ball and play good attractive football.

“One thing we learnt from our Brazil experience is that they know how to keep the ball and not give it away, so we believe that the less we give away the ball the better our chances of advancing to the finals”, he ended.

W Connection will face Jamaican club Harbour View on Friday night from 8.30 p.m. in the second semi-final of a double header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.
