Houston Baptist University senior Lorne Cameron has been named the 2010 Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) Player of the year, it was announced Thursday night at the ASC Awards banquet in Garden City, New York after a vote by the league's head coaches. HBU freshman Kristopher Tyrpak was named ASC Rookie of the Year while Steve Jones was named ASC Coach of the Year. Adelphi placed seven players on the two All-Conference teams, including five First-Team honors. HBU placed six members on the two teams, including three First-Team members. NJIT had a pair of First-Team member and three player recognized overall while Longwood had one First-Team selection and two on the Second-Team. Howard had four student-athletes recognized on the Second-Team.
Dan Larenius and Mauricio Mora represented the Adelphi defense, earning first-team distinction. Mora has two goals on the year, both of them game winners, including a 30 yeard bomb against then nationally ranked UPENN. Both defenders are anchors of Adelphi's stingy defense, which gives up less then one goal per contest (0.73).
Thorne Holder was selected as the ASC first-team goalkeeper after posting seven shut outs and a goals against average of just 0.81. Holder has also made 55 saves and has been in net for eight of Adelphi's nine wins.
Brandon Stoneham and Michael Aquino were both second-team honorees, Stoneham as a forward and Aquino in the midfield. Stoneham has five points on the year, courtesy of two goals and an assist, while Aquino has collected one assist.
Adelphi will return to action on Friday, November 12 when they take on #3 seed NJIT in the semifinals of the ASC Tournament at 7:00 pm on Motamed Field.
