Americans thumped by South Korea

The United States finished ahead of Cameroon in Group C but little else went right on Friday evening as they fell 3-0 against South Korea.

American coach Thomas Rongen went with the same eleven starters that had trounced Cameroon two days earlier, but the combination failed to yield dividends as the determined Koreans proved better everywhere on the field.

After a near miss off a corner kick in the 21st minute, Korea jumped ahead in the 23rd when sloppy defending from another corner kick allowed Kim Young Gwon to curl a shot off the left-hand post past goalkeeper Brian Perk for the first goal of the game.

Yuh get your wish, US is out as one of the 2 suckiest 3rd place teams on goal difference. Although they had the same (-3) as Costa Rica. Costa Rica gets through on having one more goal scored (5 vs 4).

And the Uzbeks are out with just 1 point even though they made 3rd place.

The final 16 is:

PAR\__               __/BRA
KOR/  \             /  \URU
         ->         <-
GHA\__/  \       /  \__/GER
RSA/      \     /      \NGA
             -> <-
ESP\__    /     \    __/VEN
ITA/  \  /       \  /  \UAE
         ->         <-
HUN\__/             \__/EGY
CZE/                   \CRC

In the final 16 round...
We've got three continental rivalries: Ghana vs SA, Spain vs Italy, and Brazil vs Uruguay.
We also have a rematch of a last U-17 semi-final: Germany vs Nigeria
The hosts get to beat up on CONCACAF opposition.

  Despite never actually having won an Under-20 tournament yuh could never really go wrong supporting one ah dem African teams nuh.  The have a knack for finishing among the last 4 teams and they tend to be very entertaining to watch.  Give a African yute de ball ANYWHERE  within sight of the 18-yard box and he shootin'  (and some ah dem shots does result in some WICKED goal!)

Like England send a 5th string Squad

I mean from Arsenal alone they could have had, Walcott, Gibbs, Wilshire, Randall
From ManU Welbeck, Chelsea Bertrand and Bridcutt

Looks like the clubs said no way.

Observer,

I noticed the same thing. What would the reason be? They don't think they need the tourney since they are already at a high level? The clubs could refuse to send them since it is not the senior team?

This was the situation with other European teams as well, Germany and Italy didn't send all their best players. The tournament was not scheduled on an international break by FIFA, so FIFA can't really complain even though they are. Although I'd like to see the best teams on the field, at the same time screw FIFA. The clubs have the right to keep their players.

From what I understand the European teams take the Euro U21 far more seriously.
On another note CR looks very good so far, I hope they do well. I like this squad.
