Not sure about the deep part but definitely agree with the conviction and belief.  The squad is about 20 deep, 2 on national duty and 2 injured so only 16 "regular" players left.

Pres beat Arima 1-0 through a Civaughn Dimsoy goal.

Hear nah...as is having to play away is not enough, even with the impressive unbeaten record in the zone...but the officiating does be a next thing Pres does have to fight up with boy.  Talk about a raw deal the southerners does get up there.  The ref play about 15 mins time-added-on when there were very few time stopping infringements during the second half.

The schedule was madness.  How could a team whether it was Arima or Pres play on Monday then travel to Tobago to play on Wednesday?  Basically 2 games in 48 hours.  The semis should have been no earlier than Thursday and winner of the Arima/Pres game should have had home field advantage to eliminate the travel.

Not deep in #. Deep in ability in light of the 4 unavailable players.

And the North, Central and Tobago teams would've played one game and into the final eh.  I not sure how it was last year, but year before was the same thing.  If is only five teams, they should at least rotate every year so the south and east zone winners wouldn't always play more games (away) to reach the finals.

If it was up to me and they insist on a knockout, Central would play Tobabo every year for a berth in the semis.  Those two zones play the least amount of games in zonal play.  Ideally I would prefer a round robin for the Big 5 so each team play 4 games: 2 home and 2 away.  The team with the most points win just like the days of the Big 7.

I think they have a draw before the season to know who plays where, nothing sinister going on, i think it's the luck of the draw; last year Caps played two games to reach the final, this year they went straight to the semis

So Pres lost to a team that " don't play with any structure" according to their coach  ::)

This was a weak CAPS side that only won the zone by default over a side that beat them twice in the regular season.

The team though had heart and that carried them through. Congratulations on the title and for making Central proud  :beermug: :beermug:

Caps takes Big-5 title on penalties.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Carapichaima East Secondary continued its sensational run this season, when the school became the first Central team to lift the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) Big-Five championship title, after dropping favourites Presentation College of San Fernando on penalty kicks, subsequent to a 1-1 stalemate, yesterday.

A late 30-yard strike from Carapichaima’s Leon Wiley with five minutes remaining took the match to spot kicks, with the underdogs eventually emerging with a 4-3 penalties win, in the second match of a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

The opening match, which commenced over half an hour after the original kick-off time due to an ongoing conflict with officials, saw champion of the Girls’ south league championship Debe Secondary cop the Big-Four title with a straightforward 4-1 victory over Tobago’s Bishop’s High.

“Caps” did well to survive long periods of possession from Presentation College, which began as favourite to win the title, as it entered with a 100 percent winning streak from the season’s start.

But like its stunning win over last year’s champion St Anthony’s College, in the semifinal, Carapichaima was destined to stop the southern prestige school in its tracks.

Both teams were, in fact, more evenly matched in the opening stages. However, with a clash between two players, Carapichaima’s goalkeeper Demetrius Edwards and Presentation forward Civaughn Dimsoy, the tides changed.

Edwards, who may have suffered a broken leg, was substituted for Juamal Ramkumar, who only minutes later had to retrieve the ball from inside the net when he was beaten by a left-footed strike from midfielder Anjel Williams. Williams connected cleanly from a cross from Akil Pierre, which reached him at the edge of the 18-yard box.

“Pres” continued to press and restricting the Central Zone team to shots from distance, and with both teams struggling to find the final vital pass, the match had by all indications, had been decided.

Persistence paid off though as strikes from afar which failed to really test the Presentation custodian, eventually caught him off guard with a wicked shot in the 85th minute by Wiley. The Carapichaima faithful were in bliss at the prospect of a comeback after the school suffered a loss in the 2011 final to St Anthony’s.

The match went straight to penalty kicks, and with Presentation College missing its final two shots, Treverson Calliste smashed the ball in to the jubilation his team and supporters.

Caps’ manager Steve Gopeesingh, speaking after the match almost scoffed at the thought that his team may have been considered underdogs. “We are always considered underdogs in the press. No one ever hears about our 87 match winning streak in the (Central) zone,” said Gopeesingh.

“We’re all happy obviously, since we did it to St Anthony’s and now Pres. We moved like Sandy!” he added.

The team had to do without the efforts of the league leading goal scorer Shaquille Holder, who bagged 28 goals in league competition this year.

To the defence of Presentation, coach Shawn Cooper also fielded a team without its topscorer Shackiel Henry. Both forwards are currently on national Under-20 duties.

Taylor hat-trick hands Debe Big-Four crown

In the opening match, Debe kept control and composure as expected from a champion. The South Zone winner, which was the only girls’ team this season to secure a victory in every match of the campaign, was up 3-0 at half time, and never looked back.

National youth team midfielder, Taylor, found the back of the net with a swooping freekick on the 17th minute with Bishop’s custodian misjudging the height and pace on the ball.

Just over five minutes later, Debe, remaining in attack found a second, from a close-ranged finish again from Taylor, who connected with a brilliant low, pacey cross from Ray-Ann Montano.

With half-time approaching, Debe put the match to an early rest. This time it was Patrice Vincent, who has consistently found the back of the net for Debe for the past two seasons, scoring the team’s third goal, again from close range. The ball arrived from a corner kick and with Bishops’ defenders failing to clear, Vincent capitalised with a rocket into the top of the net.

Despite the deflating and momentous task ahead, Bishops returned with the right frame of mind and had its best spell of the match at the start of the second half.

Just over 15 minutes into the restart, Bishops found its first and only goal via Krystal Taylor, who assisted in the only goal of the semifinal win over St Francois.

The final goal of the match came in added time from the penalty spot, when Taylor, who was in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper was shoved from behind, giving the referee an easy decision to make. Taylor, in fact, was removed from the field to receive treatment before returning to put away her hat-trick and her fifth goal in the two Big-Four matches.

The win came as no surprise to those who followed the country’s most dominant school girls team in recent years. Debe reached to the final after defeating the only other unbeaten school in the league, East Zone’s St Augustine Secondary 3-0, in the semifinal.

Roxborough, Mason Hall reach InterCol semis.
T&T Guardian Reports.

A Kyle George double was enough to hand Roxborough Secondary a 2-1 victory over defending champion Signal Hill in the Coca-Cola Tobago InterCol for a spot in the semifinal, when the two team’s met in the second match of a double-header at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, yesterday.

Mason Hall also won by a similar 2-1 result over newly-promoted Bishop’s in the first match, as it joined Speyside and league winner Scarborough Secondary in the last four stage of the competition, which will kick off on Saturday.

In the latter fixture, George gave Roxborough the perfect start with a strike in the third minute, which he doubled in the 76th minute. Shaquille Gibson pulled one back in the 89th minute for Signal Hill but last year’s Tobago InterCol champion was unable to level the score, as Roxborough sealed a berth to the semifinal, where it meets Scarborough.

In the first match, which kicked off InterCol action, Mason Hall found a comfortable opening and went in at the end of the first half with a 2-0 lead, when Monari Walker and Akim Legall scored just minutes apart halfway through the opening period. Walker scored in the 23rd, followed by Legall’s effort in the 27th minute, as created an uphill task for Bishop’s.

Bishop’s was unable to break through the Mason Hall defence throughout the match but was also given a lifeline in the first minute of stoppage time when Che Diaz converted a spot kick. But, the scoring was done as Mason Hall found the last four spot against Speyside.

Today, the Central Zone and East Zone quartefinal matches will kick off. In Central, former powerhouse, Presentation College of Chaguanas faces a tricky test Tabaquite in the first match of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 3pm.

When both teams met in league action this season, Presentation won the first round encounter, 2-0 while Tabaquite showed more fight in the second round match for a 2-2 draw to set up an interesting clash today.

Two hours later at Couva,  Couva West will be going after a third win against Gasparillo this season, after winning their league meetings 6-0 and 1-0 while at Carapichaima East Secondary Ground, Chaguanas North, the zonal league runner-up entertains Senior Division champions, Vishnu Boys Hindu College, from 3.30 pm.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, a double-header will also take place with giants, St Augustine and San Juan North both in action. In the opener, St Augustine, runner-up to Arima North in the league faces Toco, which ended bottom of the seven-team zonal table, but managed a 1-1 with the “Green Machine” in the first round, before a 4-0 bashing in the second round.

Two hours later, zonal third placed finishers San Juan North and El Dorado West lock horns with both teams enjoying a win each during the league campaign.

El Do West dumps San Juan on penalties.
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

El Dorado West first squandered a 3-0 first-half lead before beating last year’s zonal finalist San Juan North 4-2 on penalty kicks following a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time in their East Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League Coca-Cola InterCol. This was in a quarterfinal double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, yesterday.

During the league campaign, both San Juan and El Dorado West had registered a win against each other but yesterday, the latter came out the aggressor and stormed into a 3-0 advantage via goals from Stephon Lewis (23rd), Keshun Seecharan (35th) and Jermal Osbourne, two minutes later.

However, three minutes before the half, Corie Dhanoolal pulled a goal back for San Juan to give his team hope while Andel Andrews made it 3-2 in the 80th followed by a Brent Sam penalty conversion seven minutes later, to stun El Do West and send the match into the dreaded penalty shootout where San Juan failed to complete the turn around.

In the opener, St Augustine, runner-up to Arima North in the league blanked Toco 4-0 led by a double from captain Nicholas Marcano and one each by Ricardo John and Devonish Jordan and will meet El Dorado West in the semifinals at the same venue next Friday.

At Carapichaima East Secondary Ground, Chaguanas North, the Central Zone league runner-up also got a double from Deon O’Garro in the 25th and 67th and minutes, while Ainsely County added the other in 53rd in their 3-0 trouncing of Senior Division champion, Vishnu Boys Hindu College, to set up a semifinal date with Couva West.

Couva strolled past Gasparillo 3-0 over at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. Jaffet Williams scored in the 64th and 70th for Couva and Seon Edwards, added a third on the stroke of full-time while Gasprillo missed a last minute penalty.

Earlier on at Couva, former zonal powerhouse, Presentation College of Chaguanas suffered shock 4-2 penalty-kicks loss to Tabaquite in the first match of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Tabaquite had goalkeeper Jervon Garcia to thank for its victory as he made two saves in the shootout while Tabaquite also missed its second of five attempts.

Jabari Ramkissoon had given Tabaquite a 65th minute lead after a 0-0 first-half, but with two minutes left on the clock Brian Charles conjured up an equaliser for Presentation to force penalty kicks where his team stumbled.

Tabaquite now moves on to face newly crowned national Big Five and zonal champion Carapichaima East in the first Central semifinal next Thursday at Couva.

Today, the North Zone quarterfinals will kick off with a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 3 pm.

In the first match, Fatima will look for its third win of the season over debutants Diego Martin North, having won their two league meetings, 1-0 and 4-1 while at 5pm, zonal league runner-up, East Mucurapo and Trinity College, lock horns with both team drawing their clashes this season, 2-2 and 0-0.

Yesterday’s Results

El Do West eliminate San Juan.
T&T Newsday Reports.

EL DORADO West, the East Zone debutants in the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), yesterday booked their spot in the East Zonal Semi- Final round of the Coca Cola Intercol.

El Dorado West, formerly El Dorado Junior, needed kicks from the penalty spot to oust San Juan 4-2 after both teams battled to a 3-3 draw at the end of full time.

This was the second game of an East Zonal Quarter Final double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

El Dorado held a comfortable 3-0 lead, courtesy items from Stephon Lewis (23rd minute), Keshorn Seecharan (35th) and Jomol Osbourne (37th).

But San Juan responded in emphatic fashion, with Corey Dhanoolal (42nd), Andel Andrews (80th) and Brent Sam (a penalty in the 87th) getting their names on the scoresheet to force the game into penalties. However, El Dorado had the final say as they progressed to the next phase.

Earlier at Arima, St Augustine had no such worries as they drubbed Toco 4-0, due to a pair from Nicholas Marcano (18th and 82nd) and one apiece from Ricardo John (44th) and Jordan Devonish (67th).

Chaguanas North had little trouble in their Central Zonal Quarter-Final match against Vishnu Boys, the Central Senior Championship winners, at the Carapichaima Ground, as they cruised to a 3-0 victory. Couva West also recorded a 3-0 win, over Gasparillo, in the second of back-to-back matches at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

The earlier game resulted in a 4-2 win by Tabaquite over Presentation Chaguanas, via kicks from the penalty spot, after the scoreline read 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Today, the focus will be on the North Zonal quarter-finals, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo. From 3 pm, Fatima will meet Diego Martin (whom they defeated twice in the Championship Division) followed by the contest between Mucurapo and Trinity (both teams drew their two meetings thus far in 2012).

The League, yesterday morning, announced that the Tobago Zonal semi-finals has been rescheduled, once again, to Saturday, instead of next Thursday as was previously noted.

Trinity College upsets Mucurapo.
T&T Guardian Reports.

A lone first half strike from Josh Toussaint was enough to see underdogs Diego Martin record one of the upsets of the Trinidad Coca-Cola thus far, as he led the second-from-bottom league finishers to a 1-0 win over Fatima College in the North Zone’s quarterfinal, yesterday.

The result was equally shocking as the 2-1 come-from-behind victory secured by Trinity College over favourites East Mucurapo, in the second match of the national stadium’s double-header.

In the opening match-up, the right-footed Toussaint, who led his team in goals scored this season, recorded his all-important item in the 27th minute, with a deft left-footed shot outside the penalty area. It was a match where both teams were arguably even matched, despite Fatima winning the two league encounters by a combined 5-1 tally earlier in the campaign.

The win put Diego Martin into the North Zone semifinal, where it will meet the winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal clash St Anthony’s College and newly-promoted Malick Secondary, which will kick off at 3 pm, at the same venue. In the second match of yesterday’s double-header, Trinity, which finished the league campaign in last place, but held Mucurapo to two draws, came from a goal down to secure a famous win.

Aaqil Campbell, who scored many a match winner this season for East Mucurapo, put them ahead in the ninth minute. It was not long after that Trinity found the goal, which would spur it on to the eventual victory. Dominic Jangoo stepped up from the penalty spot. He took a soft strike which was parried by Aaron Enil, before Jangoo was successful on the rebound.

Mucurapo as it did during and after its goal, continued to dominate the match, and even against the run of play, again suffered a setback, when it fell 2-1 down in the 77th minute, from a clean hit high into the net from Stephan Spicer, which followed a set play.

It took some fine saves from shot stopper Christopher Matthaus and a strong Trinity back line, which prevented a comeback from the clever Mucurapo attack. But, it was Trinity’s day as they found a berth into the semifinal, where it meets either St Mary’s College and QRC. The latter two teams will meet in the second double-header on Saturday from 5 pm.

Today, action will open in the South Zone, where a double-header will take place at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. At 3 pm, league runner-up Shiva Boys will open its account against season-long winless team Moruga Secondary. In the second match at 5 pm, Naparima College will face Pleasantville.

Shiva move on, P'ville upset Naps.
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

Shiva Boys Hindu College made light work of Moruga Secondary yesterday in their 2012 Coca Cola InterCol outing, whipping the underdogs 5-0 to move on in South Zone action at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

And Naparima College became yet another big casualty as they lost to Pleasantville Secondary 5-4 on kicks from the penalty mark yesterday in the late match of the "Manny Ramjohn" double header after a 2-2 regulation draw.

Shiva Boys struggled early on playing on a soggy pitch, but with ten men they took a 1-0 advantage to the dressing room at half-time, and added four more goals after the break.

D'sette Thomas opened Shiva's account just before the interval, while Shavon Diaz roared to a second-half hat-trick, and Shiva Boys captain Dwight Pope added the other from the penalty spot.

Resuming the match with confidence and a goal to the good, Diaz doubled the lead in the 56th despite Moruga pleas for off-side, collecting a long pass from the Shiva Boys half and chipping chunky goalkeeper Romano Steeling as he charged out of goal.

Moruga did have their chances and persisted with efforts to score, but the goals kept coming the other way. Joshua Joseph in the Moruga defence was perhaps harshly penalised for handball when he slipped in the 68th and Pope buried his penalty.

And Diaz put a cap on the encounter with items in the 70th and 80th, first stealing the ball from a tired Moruga defence, and then finishing off a long run down the left flank from substitute Levi Garcia, both shots coming from close range.

Moruga showed lots of spunk from kick-off, but in all honesty the match was beyond them, even after Shiva Boys were reduced to ten men, Nathaniel Garcia rightly being sent off for a crunching tackle on Aaron Julien, Moruga's best player yesterday.

In fact, in a half spent defending, Moruga had one chance at goal, a defensive error by Shiva Boys that left goalkeeper Sha-keem Darius and a defender battling for the ball, but the onrushing Donnel Charles could not steal it with the goal empty.

The teams had to endure a marshy "Manny Ramjohn" outfield in a clash that started in driving rain. It took them half hour to fall into any sort of rhythm, but play improved once the water started to recede.

Only after Garcia's (N) sending off the go-ahead goal came, with Julien off the field getting treatment after the tackle. Thomas it was in the 42nd minute, cleaning up from close range after Shaquille Williams was denied by the Moruga defence.

Shiva Boys' Judah Peters also missed three golden chances on either side of the goal before the break.

But the player deficit was even less a factor in the second half, as Shiva Boys hit their stride then the Moruga net a further four times to ensure their semi-final berth.

Moruga ended with ten men after Devon Molino was sent off late for his second bookable offence.

Their season is over, but Shiva Boys move on to face Pleasantville Secondary in the South Zone semi-finals.

Yesterday's InterCol Scores:

Shiva Boys 5 (D'sette Thomas 42nd; Shavon Diaz 56th, 70th, 80th; Dwight Pope [pen] 68th) vs Moruga 0

Naparima College 2 (Martieon Watson [pen] 28th; Akeem Humphrey 48th) vs Pleasantville 2 (Shivon Lesse 33rd; Jared London 67th)

Diaz nets Shiva hat-trick.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Forward Shavon Diaz whipped in a hat-trick to secure a semifinal spot for last year’s league champion Shiva Boys Secondary as it trounced Moruga Secondary 5-0 in the Coca-Cola Trinidad InterCol South Zone competition, yesterday.

The easy win for Shiva Boys, preceded yet another InterCol shock via a 5-4 penalty-kick victory for Pleasantville over Naparima, which followed a 2-2 stalemate in the second match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

The opening match saw much excitement, not least for the dismissal of Shiva’s topscorer Nathaniel Garcia, who was ejected in the first half after being shown a straight red card. Garcia was dismissed in the 42nd minute after lashing out at Moruga’s Aaron Julian.

However, instead of the dismissal putting Shiva on the backfoot, the South Zone runner-up followed up with the match’s first goal, a minute before the end of the first half complements of a strike from Judah Peters.

Leading 1-0 at the half, the ten-man Shiva Boys returned with more fire power, and swelled its lead in the 58th minute, with Diaz’s first effort. Ten  minutes later, Dwight Pope converted the team’s third goal, which led the way for Diaz’s hat-trick, which he sealed with his last two goals in the 71st and 81st minutes.

Two minutes later, Moruga went from down to out with the sending off of Devon Molino, following his reception of a second yellow card, which sealed another big loss for Moruga. Moruga finished the league campaign, which a miserable one point from 12 matches.

The second match was whistled off and went straight to penalties after the two teams, Pleasantville and Naparima, played to a 2-2 draw. Pleasantville, which ended the league campaign in second-to-last position, with 10 losses, two of which were inflicted by Naparima by a combined score of 9-0, came from behind twice to seal the spot kick victory.

Shivon Lesse, who scored Pleasantville’s first equaliser scored the all-important spot kick. Martieon Watson opened the scoring in the 28th minute after converting a penalty. Just five minutes later, Watson equalised for Pleasantville, as both teams went into half time locked at 1-1.

Naparima then regained the lead through an effort from Akeem Humphrey, which lasted 20 minutes. Jared London bagged Pleasantville’s second equaliser, which was enough to see both teams complete the 90 minutes, without another breakthrough.

The match ended with Pleasantville going down to 10 men after Anin Pereira was shown a straight red card for directing abusive language to an official. After 90 minutes, no additional time was added as both teams went straight to the penalty spot.

Lesse’s final spot kick gave Pleasantville the unexpected berth into the semifinal stage where it will meet the day’s first match winner, Shiva Boys, on Friday.

The other two semifinalists will be determined on Wednesday. South Zone league champion Presentation College of San Fernando will meet either Fyzabad or Mayaro of the Senior Division. St Benedicts and Princes Town will compete in the second semifinal match. The two matches will be played at 3 pm and 5 pm, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Today, action will continue in Tobago where the two spots are up for grabs for the final. Mason Hall, which dropped newly-promoted Bishop’s High, will meet Speyside Secondary, which finished second in the league, at 3 pm. The other match will feature league champion Scarborough Secondary versus Roxborough, which upset Signal Hill 2-1 in Tuesday’s other semifinal. The second match will kick off at 5 pm.

Scarborough, Speyside in Tobago final.
T&T Newsday Reports.

Scarborough Secondary thumped Roxborough Secondary 5-0 yesterday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium to advance to the Tobago Zone final of the Coca Cola Intercol competition.

Scarborough, who clinched the Tobago Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League earlier this season, are on course for a clean sweep of the sister isle this season, and will be favoured to win the final.

In the other match of yesterday’s doubleheader, Speyside Secondary got past Mason Hall Secondary 4-2 to book their place in the title match which kicks off on November 19.

Both teams ended the SSFL season locked on nine points but Speyside proved better on the day to set up a meeting with Scarborough.

The school from the capital of Tobago proved to be too much to handle for Roxborough with their captain Davion David opening the scoring with a clinical strike.

Jem Gordon doubled the advantage while Kellon James made it 3-0 soon after. Agyei Duncan joined the party with the fourth goal of the match and Gordon rounded off the scoring with his brace.

Scarborough, Speyside into Tobago InterCol final.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Scarborough Secondary soared into the final of the Coca-Cola Tobago InterCol competition after handing Roxborough Secondary a 5-0 whipping in the second match of a last four double-header, staged at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet, yesterday.

The simple win saw Scarborough seal a place in the title deciding match against Speyside, which defeated Mason Hall, 4-3 in an exciting opening fixture. Scarborough, which emerged league winners, while unbeaten this campaign, opened the semifinal with a 4-0 half-time lead, through goals from Davion David (3rd), Mickael Gordon (19th), Kelon James (26th) and Agyei Duncan 48th).

Gordon scored again with five minutes left to record a brace and an emphatic win, against Roxborough, a team which defeated the Tobago title holders in the quarterfinal stage.

The opening match, however, was not as straightforward. Speyside, which opened the scoring in the 12th minute via a Terquil Mahabal effort, found itself back to square one when Akini James leveled for Mason Hall with a minute left in the first half.

Speyside took its second lead of the match when Brandon Benjamin found the back of the net in the 47th minute. But, Speyside again lost its lead, and went down 3-2, with Mason Hall scoring in the 58th and 72nd minutes, through Chevi McMillan and Hakeem Legalle, respectively.

However, Speyside, which ended their league campaign in second position responded with another goal from Benjamin in the 79th minute, before he scored the match winner in the 84th minute, to seal a hat-trick. The two teams, Speyside and Scarborough will meet in the final on Sunday, at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, from 4 pm.

Quarterfinal action will continue tomorrow in the East and North Zones, with double headers in each division. Up North, defending National InterCol champions St Anthony’s College will open its account against newly promoted Malick Secondary, from 3 pm, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

St Mary’s College will face Queen’s Royal College (QRC), in the second fixture at 5 pm. At the Larry Gomez Stadium, the second two quarterfinals will be contested, when Arima North tackles Valencia, at 2 pm, followed by El Dorado East’s clash with Trinity College East.

There will be no action on Tuesday. However, a day later, the final round of last-eight matches will play in the South Zone. Presentation College of San Fernando will meet either Fyzabad or Mayaro, from 3 pm, before St Benedict’s takes on Princes Town at 5 pm. The two matches will play at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Tigers, Saints cruise into North InterCol semis.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

Midfielder Jamali Garcia scored a set-piece double to hand defending champion St Anthony’s College a berth into the Coca-Cola Trinidad North Zone InterCol semifinal, after the Tigers recorded a comprehensive 2-0 victory over newly promoted Malick Secondary, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain.

Garcia, who scored in either half put St Anthony's into the final four, where they meet St Mary's College, which dropped Queen's Royal College (QRC) 2-0, in the second double-header match at the national stadium.

The opening match did not feature end-to-end excitement, but with the return of national under-20 players Keane McIvor and Xavier Rajpaul, St Anthony's put on a complete performance against a Malick outfit which seemingly lacked structure.

The Tigers defense limited Malick to hopeful advanced passing, while the attack notably though Adrian Millette attempted to thread a perfect attack. However, the final touch was missing from either team.

St Anthony's took the advantage when they were awarded a penalty with two minutes left in the match. Millette beat a host of Malick defenders before having his ankles clipped from behind. Garcia stepped up and shot confidently as he wrong footed Lester Durham in Malick's goal.

With no more than five minutes spent in the second half, Lester had to pick the ball out from inside the net when Garcia found his second with a powerful header. Garcia beat three Malick defenders in the air to a corner kick from Adriel Kerr to hand his team a comfortable lead.

Malick, in particular, its attackers Encoce David and Kyle Adams gave a strong account with their work rate and decision making, but struggled to find support. St Anthony's continued to create chances, and Millette may found one to his credit, had his finishing been as clinical as his build-up play.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Millette connected with a ball which snuck through the midfielder, and outpaced the entire Malick back line, before rounding Durham, but his eventual shot was diverted by backtracking defender Cedric Commisiong who recovered well.

The full time whistle saw the Tigers record yet a win which came one match after its 33-match unbeaten streak was broken by eventual champions Carapichaima East Secondary, in the Big-Five competition.

In the second match, St Mary's College required two late goals from wide forwards Sebastien Cabral and Jamiel Williams to oust old rival QRC. Cabral scored from close range after being found by the team's leading scorer Rashaad Hyacinth.

Hyacinth combined well with a wide played, who played a cheeky ball into his path, before he passed it on to Cabral. Five minutes after the opener, Williams, lurking in penalty area connected from a cross before guiding the ball clinically into the net with a right footed swerving effort.

On Wednesday, St Anthony's and St Mary's will meet in the second semifinal match in a Hasely Crawford Stadium double-header, at 5 pm.

The first match will feature Diego Martin North Secondary and Trinity College, which shocked, Fatima and East Mucurapo, with wins in the quarterfinal.

Over in the East, Arima North and Trinity College East secured wins, which put them into the semifinal where they meet each other.

Arima North welcomed Valencia High in to the top flight schools' football with a 5-0 whipping, at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. Jamal Francois scored the only first half goal, before Kwasi Winsor, Rondell Elie, Shilo John and returning U-20 national player Marcus Gomez, sealed an emphatic win for the reigning East Zone league and InterCol champions.

Trinity East, playing in the second fixture, recorded a late goal compliments of Antonio Auguste (82nd), as they ended El Dorado East 1-0. The two semifinalists will meet at the same venue on Friday, from 4 pm.

The match will follow St Augustine Secondary's clash with El Dorado West, which kicks off at 2 pm.

The final round of quarterfinal matches in the South Zone will play on Wednesday, when Presentation College of San Fernando tackles Mayaro Secondary, from 3 pm, in the first match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

In the second match at 5 pm, St Benedict's will take on Princes Town.

Taylor brace hands Debe Trinidad InterCol title

Less than two weeks after scoring a double to drop St Augustine Secondary out of the Big-Four competition, national youth midfielder Kayla Taylor scored another two goals to land the South champions the BGTT/ First Citizens Trinidad InterCol trophy, yesterday.

Taylor came on as a substitute in the second half, before scoring in the 54th and 67th minutes, to hand the country's most dominant force in girls' football, the second biggest trophy on the calendar.

The result saw Debe complete its 13th straight victory since the season began. So far, it has picked up the South Zone league title, the Big-Four, and now the Trinidad InterCol title.

Debe will be seeking to complete a perfect season, when it takes on Tobago champions Bishiop's High, in the National InterCol final. The match will kick off at 3 pm, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Tigers, Saints clash for final’s spot.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Defending zonal and national InterCol champions St Anthony’s College and long-time rival St Mary’s College will renew their rivalry when both teams meet in the Battle of the Saints for a spot in the North Zone Coca-Cola InterCol final, in the second match of a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, today from 5 pm.

Two hours earlier, Diego Martin North Secondary and Trinity College will meet. The winners of today’s semifinal will meet in the zonal final, at the same venue, next Thursday for a spot in the national playoffs.

The clash between St Anthony’s, dubbed the “Westmooring Tigers” and the “Saints” comes just two days after both teams won comfortably in quarterfinal action.

The “Tigers” faced newly-promoted Malick Secondary, and emerged a 2–0 winner courtesy a double from the team’s skipper Jamali Garcia. St Mary’s too, won its match via a 2–0 scoreline, albeit with late goals from Sebastien Cabral and Jamiel Williams.

The two teams, known for their fantastic fan support and rivalry, are expected to produce an electric atmosphere, as they meet for the third time this season with St Mary’s failing to secure a win in the previous meetings St Anthony’s won the first leg 3–0 away, before winning 2–1 at home and will be fancied to advance to yet another zonal final.

The Nigel Grosvenor-coached “Tigers” will also have good memories of their last encounter with “Saints” at today’s venue having won 1–0 in the zonal InterCol final last year when both teams faced off. The other finalist will be determined between Diego North and Trinity, which finished the league campaign in second-to-last and last place, respectively.

Six days ago, Diego and Trinity secured respective victories over Fatima College and East Mucurapo Secondary. In their league meetings this season, league debutants, Diego Martin North emerged with a 1–0 victory while Trinity claimed a 2–1 win, to epitomise the unpredictability of the country’s prestigious schools’ football knockout competition.

The semifinals today will play simultaneously with the final round of quarterfinal round of matches to be contested in the South Zone. From 3 pm and 5 pm, a double-header will be played at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, opening with runaway league champion Presentation College of San Fernando’s clash with newly promoted Mayaro Secondary.

Presentation, which will welcome the return of national under-20 striker Shackiel Henry, will start as favourites while the second match featuring St Benedict’s College and Princes Town Secondary is too tricky to call. In their first round league meeting, the match ended 1–1 while St Benedict’s won 4–1 away in the second round and enters today match as slight favourites.

The winners of today’s south quarterfinal advance to a showdown in Friday’s second semifinal at the same venue, from 5 pm. The first semifinal features Shiva Boys and Pleasantville from 3 pm.
