2011-2012 Digicel Pro League Championship set for September 9 kickoffNo more date change for start of the 2011-2012 Digicel Pro League Championship assured TT Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene at the official launch of the League on Wednesday morning at the Hasely Crawford Stadium VIP Room.

Following three date changes in August due to Trinidad and Tobago international matches, which delayed the start of the 2011-2012 League season, Skeene confirmed that the date it set.

“We are ready to go… everyone is rearing to go,” the League CEO said in his opening speech. “Football, the number one sport in T&T and the World starts this Friday at the Marvin Lee Stadium.”

On Friday Round One Match Day One begins with a “Super Friday” double header at the Marvin Lee Stadium with DIRECTV North East Stars against newcomers T&TEC FC from 5pm and Caledonia AIA against defending champions Defence Force from 7pm.

Round One Match Day One continues on Saturday with the newly dubbed “Fiesta Saturday” at the Ato Boldon Stadium with Police FC against Adam’s Construction San Juan Jabloteh from 4pm and W Connection against St. Ann’s Rangers from 6pm.

“It is hard to believe that this time has come around already,” said an excited Wendy Alleyne, Sponsorship and Promotions Manager of Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Limited.

“It feels like just yesterday we were wrapping up the (Digicel) Pro Bowl; congratulating everyone on their amazing performances and looking forward to the coming season.

“Now it’s here,” Alleyne continued. “Eight talented teams sit before us, ready to compete for the right to be called the Digicel Pro League Champions.”

Apart from eight teams this season, the League format will have three rounds this season—a change from last season’s two rounds.

Skeene and Alleyne both touched on increased entertainment value with the Cooler Edition Super Fridays and Fiesta Saturdays this season.

Also at Wednesday’s launch, Skeene revealed that the League is currently working out arrangements with a new Television partner and details would be revealed in the near future.

Former T&T international captains Sedley Joseph, Selris Figaro and Reynold Carrington were present at Wednesday’s launch and were presented with 2011-2012 TT Pro League Season Passes.
