National women’s U-15 coach, Marlon Charles is in search of goalkeepers for the U-15 team, which is currently in training for the inaugural Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore this August.

Charles said there was a general shortage of female goalkeepers in the country, and it was even more difficult to find one born in 1995, which is necessary according to the age specification of the event.

“The key point right now is trying to get goalkeepers, we have a few in training, but they are either too old or too young, we need someone born in 1995,” said Charles.

The U-20 coach said that if there were any goalkeepers in the country born in 1995, they could contact him through any of the zonal coaches.

A group of roughly 30 players currently trains four times a week, and Charles said he was very satisfied with their abilities, and the focus now is to get them accustomed to Technical director of women’s football in T&T, Even Pellerud’s philosophy of play that emphasises aggression and fitness.

“Right now we are working from the back, teaching them how to defend their goal, with competing and one on one battles,” said Charles.

“This is how we’re working right now and then the aggression and skill will grow,” he said. Charles commended the T&T Football Federation for their support, explaining that because of it, the coaches and players were moving quickly and were better able to work towards their mission.
