Stefan St. LouisJunior Stefan St. Louis took advantage of a combination feed from Martin Sandell and Sebastian Harris to score his first goal of the season in the 71st minute, leading the Oakland University men's soccer team (2-0) to a 1-0 victory over the Green Bay Phoenix on Sunday at the OU Soccer Field.

"It was a nice combination play," said head coach Gary Parsons. "Martin played the ball in from the flank in to (Harris), he laid it off and Stefan put it right in the corner. It was good. We've got players that can play up front and can put the ball away for us. We have to keep using those guys and keep finishing."

The Golden Grizzlies took advantage solid offensive pressure throughout the 90 minutes of play, holding a 13-9 advantage in shots and a telling 4-1 advantage in shots on goal. The two teams combined for 30 fouls, with Green Bay committing 16 and OU being whistled for 14. The teams combined for five yellow cards, with Green Bay's Mike Voigtlander being cited in the 51st minute and David Znaty being whistled in the 61st minute, while OU's cards were assessed to Tom Catalano in the 72nd minute, Sandell in the 85th minute, and Harris in the 88th minute.

"These were two very similar types of teams," said Parsons. "Our success is going to come on hard work, and winning the ball, and playing off of winning the ball. We've got to do what works for us."

Senior goalkeeper Steve Clark faced just one shot on goal en route to his second consecutive shutout.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to action on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Niagara University tournament, facing Niagara. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
