Jesse FullertonThe Golden Panthers took advantage of a goal from an unlikely source and a stellar performance in net on their way to their first victory of the season. Senior defender Corey Kendall scored for just the second time in his FIU career and freshman Jesse Fullerton notched seven saves en route to a 1-0 FIU victory.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Panthers scored in the 66th minute on a give-and-go from the top of the box to take a 1-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Corey Kendall began the scoring play by finding freshman, and fellow defender, Jahbari Willis who quickly gave the ball back to Kendall for the game-winner.

Freshman keeper Jesse Fullerton made sure to make the goal count, as he recorded seven saves en route to the first shutout of his young career.

The win puts FIU’s record at 1-5-2, and couldn’t have come at a better time as the Golden Panthers begin conference play next Saturday when they travel to Columbia, S.C. for a 7 p.m. match with the Gamecocks of South Carolina.
