In the second matchup against cross-town rival St. Mary’s University, the Incarnate Word men’s soccer team defeated the Rattlers, 2-1, to sweep the season series.

Neither team scored in the first half, but senior Jonathan Barbarin got UIW on the scoreboard in the 59th minute by heading in a free kick from Callum Riley.

The Rattlers, however, responded in the 72nd minute with an unassisted goal by Adam Villanueva to knot the score at 1-1.

A few minutes later, Incarnate Word leading scorer Troy Thompson put the Cardinals up, 2-1, with an assist from Tony Reyes.

The victory puts UIW’s overall record at 8-7-3 and their Heartland Conference record improves to 6-3-0. The Cardinals’ last game is Sunday in Laredo at Texas A&M International University.
