FUTSAL is the name of the game, as the sport event management company, SW Touring Limited, gets ready to host the third edition of the exciting sporting event Futsal Invitational. After a two-year ‘hiatus’, the biggest national futsal tournament returns.

Teams will be vying for $10,000 in cash prizes as well as trophies, medals and undisputed futsal bragging rights for the next 12 months.

The five-a-side indoor football tournament will be held on May 30 at the Eastern Regional Sports Complex in Tacarigua. There will be 12 teams comprising community, club and corporate teams.

Each team will be allowed to register 10 players with five playing at any given time. Individual trophies will be awarded in the following categories — leading goal scorer (Golden Boot), best goalkeeper (Golden Gloves) and Most Valuable Player. The ‘Gerard Edwards’ Challenge Trophy is also up for grabs as Paradise Football Club vie to make it three in a row.

The tournament is endorsed by the Futsal Association of Trinidad and Tobago and will be part of their “Futsal | 868 Campaign”. with trials for the teams along the East-West corridor.

It offers players an opportunity to display their ability before a panel of national Futsal team selectors led by former coach and Strike Squad captain Clayton Morris.

These trials are for the selection of players to the men’s Futsal team for qualifications to the eighth FIFA Futsal World Cup 2016 to be held in Colombia.

Additionally, SW Touring Ltd intends to use this national drive to promote the game of Futsal-through competition and public awareness, whilst enhancing the capacity of community building through sustained sports development and participation.

The sponsors for the event are Beacon Insurance, Lucozade Sports, Ministry of Sport, Soccer Realm and SW Touring Limited.
