Bevon Bass grabbed the first hattrick of the season this evening as T&TEC flickered back to life with a 3-2 win over St Ann’s Rangers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain.
The lone striker in a 4-5-1 formation, the 24-year-old Bass gave a wonderful all-round display with good hold-up play, movement, sensible decision-making and, above all else, ruthless finishing.
Rangers midfielder Jason Marcano struck the bar with a late free kick in the 84th minute while T&TEC goalkeeper Akini Adams was booked for time wasting as the “Electricity Boys” held on for their first win this season.
The final whistle must have brought a warm feeling for 34-year-old T&TEC coach Jefferson George who only convinced the company’s management to let the team re-enter the Pro League two weeks before it kicked off.
Not surprisingly, T&TEC is still a work in progress where fitness is concerned while George has not gotten his final contingent of employees back yet. Lanky central defender and former Trinidad and Tobago international, Anthony Noriega, played his first game today while winger Sylvester Teesdale is waiting on the transfer window to swing open to rejoin his former teammates.
It is a far cry from the extravagantly assembled T&TEC outfit that finished second last year in its rookie season. But there was certainly enough to justify George’s plea for the squad to stay in the top flight.
Bass probably can’t thank him enough.
