DEFENDING champions MAASH International and Santos FC battled to a dull goalless stalemate in a Group A top-of-the-table clash in the Eddie Hart Football League (EHFL) last weekend, while Bon Air FC extended their winning streak to four in Group C at the Eddie Hart Savannah (EHS) in Tacarigua.
But Santos failed to capitalise on a weakened MAASH team, who were playing without their inspirational skipper Stevon Stoute, who has netted six times this season, and sturdy, energetic midfielder Tosca Bartholomew since both were suspended.
In Saturday night's game which promised to be a mouth-watering contest, both clubs adopted a physical approach which disrupted the rhythm of the match, to the disappointment of a decent crowd at the EHS. The referee had to issue two straight red cards along with a few yellow ones.
The reigning champs hold the high ground in Group A on ten points from four games, while Santos FC are second with seven points from the same number of games.
In the first match of the doubleheader, former MAASH International skipper Ellis Dyatt scored as Spain Slappers eked out an unconvincing 1-0 win over Lopinot United in a Group B encounter.
Petit Bourg Youths (ten points from five games) lead Group B by one over Slappers, who have nine points from four matches.
Trincity Nationals occupy third with six points after they scored a 1-0 victory over winless Dingle Boys last weekend for their first victory of the season.
Trincity's previous three games ended in draws.
Last Thursday, Bon Air FC maintained their winning ways when they scored a convincing win over El Do Milan.
The win put the Bon Air boys firmly at the front of the race in Group C with a maximum 12 points.
Abede Hernandez and Gorean Highley netted for Bon Air, who are seeking their first title after five seasons in the EHFL.
El Do Milan are second on eight points from a handful of games.
And ES Madrid and Small Stars played to a 1-1 draw in Group A action last week Wednesday, while University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) won by default over Young Lions.
In their previous game out in the middle, UTT shared the points with Malabar FC after a 1-1 draw on Monday night.
In another result last week, Small Stars edged ES Madrid 1-0 in a Group C match-up. Aquila Thomas did the trick for Small Stars.
