DUE TO a lack of financial support, the organising committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Cup has cancelled the 2011 Youth Football Championships.

These games were postponed from the Easter weekend and it was hoped that the event would have taken place during this three-day Arrival Day weekend.

But, in a media release, the committee stated, “our major sponsors, under new management of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, and the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago, have lacked the understanding of the tournament’s contribution to the sport by not meeting the annual financial commitment of its predecessors for the successful development and staging of this year’s tournament, as well as failing to inform our committee of their decisions in a timely manner.”

In the best interest of all the clubs, the players and the stability of the ten-year-old tournament, the committee decided to cancel this year’s event and put their focus on the 2012 version.
