Cyrano Glen and Jack Weedon each scored to keep Westside Superstarz in a very healthy position in the blink/bmobile National Super League after defeating last year’s runner-up Stokely Vale 3-2 at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, last evening.

It was an important win for Westside, which recovered from a disappointing 1-1 draw with Eagles United last week, to earn its fourth win in six matches.

Stokely Vale, meanwhile, dropped to its third loss in five matches, as the team looks a shadow of the side which pressed 2011 treble winner Joe Public into the closing stages of the title race.

Glen opened for Westside in the 17th minute, for a 1-0 lead which stood until three minutes into the second half when regular goal scorer Deon Thomas equalised for Stokely Vale.

Superstarz then found its second lead of the match through attacker Jack Weedon who made it 2-1 in the 73rd minute, soon before an own goal by Stokely Vale made it 3-1 for Westside, summing up the season thus far for the Tobago team.

Stokely Vale then left it late but had a lifeline when Sherron Manswell scored to make it 3-2 in added time, but it was not enough, as Westside went on to leapfrog bmobile Joe Public which was scheduled to play its round seven match versus an improving FC Santa Rosa after press time last evening.

Real Maracas, meanwhile, which was on ten points and in second place, together with WASA and Westside before the start of the match day, were stunned 4-1 by a another Tobago team 1976 FC Phoenix, which has thus far had a season of mixed results.

Phoenix whipped Maracas 4-1, with Darin Mitchell, a player nominated for last season’s MVP, scoring a second-half hat-trick. Andel Brown got the other goal for Phoenix, while Aaron Peters scored for Real Maracas.

In the other 4 pm fixture, WASA lost 3-2 at home to Eagles United at WASA Ground, St Joseph. The “Waterboys” took a 2-0 lead at the half, through Michael-Lee Celestine and Akil Thomas’ goals, but efforts from Glenwell John, Bernard McCall and Jamal Wiggins, turned the game around in the second half.
