Action in the semi-professional National Super League football competition is set to kick off on June 28 and run until December 13.

And despite not having a major sponsor, Neville Ferguson, the National Super League Commissioner, said they expect to have a 2013-2014 award ceremony soon and that the prize structure will be maintained at the 2012-2013 level when All Sport Promotion ran the competition.

Last season, All Sport gave the Super League back to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association.

In 2012, champions Guaya United won $200,000, runners-up Club Sando claimed $100,000, while third-placed Malabar won $75,000 and $25,000 went to the fourth-placed 1976 FC Phoenix. Club Sando were 2013-2014 champions.

“We are planning an awards function which is coming up very soon,” Ferguson said.

“The prize structure will be the same as 2012-2013. The TTFA is making those sort of arrangements.

This season, four Tobago teams are among the 16 that will contest the 2015 competition, including newcomers Marabella Family Crisis (South), Police FC (North) and Matura Re-United (North East Counties).

Demoted from the Super League back to the third-tier Association football were Las Lomas United, Coosal Las Lomas and Joe Public, which dropped out of last season’s competition.

Last season, the Super league was plagued by postponement of several matches involving team from the sister isle due to inter-island transport. Neville Ferguson, the National Super League Commission, said the Super League are planning to directly approach Caribbean Airlines to sort out scheduling problems and also to build the fixtures around important activities in the sister isle.

We asking them to let us know when are the major festivals or activities in Tobago, that will making going across to Tobago or coming here difficult,” he said. “We may very well have to schedule matches around their festival.”

“The structure will be the same as last year,” Ferguson said.

“In the first phase, everybody will play each other once, and then it (the competition) will be divided into two groups, Group A (title challengers) and Group B (relegation fight).
