National football strikers Scott Sealy, Cornell Glen and Stern John are all aiming to hit the target today when Trinidad and Tobago opens their CONCACAF World Cup Final Round Qualification campaign against the United States at the Queen’s Park Oval, Woodbrook.

The 23-year-old Sealy, who was recently signed by Kansas City Wizards in the American Major League Soccer (MLS), is eagerly awaiting his chance to take on the Americans. “I don’t feel too bad,” he noted. “Right now, I’m just trying to get in the rotation. Wherever I can fit in, I’m willing to play.” Sealy admits that he may have to play second fiddle to the strike pair of Glen and John but, on the other side of the coin, the trio have a great deal of experience playing against a number of the current American players.

“It could be (a positive) but, at the same time,” Sealy said. “Cornell currently play in the MLS and Stern played in the MLS so they came up against these guys before so they know their tendencies.” Looking ahead at today’s clash, Sealy stated: “I think everybody’s coming back one by one.” “As soon as we could get everybody back and go over the (tactical) system a little bit, I think that could help us out for (today),” he added. Glen, who recently left New York/New Jersey MetroStars for Dallas Burn during the MLS off-season, remarked: “I know some of the players but certain teams have certain game plans.” Admitting that he is 100 percent fit ahead of today’s fixture, he added: “I’m feeling confident going into the game and I hope to score some goals on Wednesday.”

John, who made a name for himself at Columbus Crew, with 52 combined goals in 1998 and 1999, revealed: “the team’s clicking together and we have a whole bunch of English (based) players that just came back in.” During the three-match friendly international series against Haiti last week, John donned the captain’s armband for the first time for Trinidad and Tobago. “It’s something I always wanted to do. It’s a pleasure to be a national team captain,” he conceded. “Hopefully we can go out and get a win on Wednesday.” And he stresses that the team is a cohesive unit, and not overly reliant on John for goals. “I think we have a team here,” said the 28-year-old. “We have good players, myself, Dwight (Yorke) and Cornell Glen. We don’t rely on one player. “So as long as we play as a team and get a result that’s more important,” he ended.
