El Dorado West first squandered a 3-0 first-half lead before beating last year’s zonal finalist San Juan North 4-2 on penalty kicks following a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time in their East Zone of the Secondary Schools Football League Coca-Cola InterCol. This was in a quarterfinal double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, yesterday.

During the league campaign, both San Juan and El Dorado West had registered a win against each other but yesterday, the latter came out the aggressor and stormed into a 3-0 advantage via goals from Stephon Lewis (23rd), Keshun Seecharan (35th) and Jermal Osbourne, two minutes later.

However, three minutes before the half, Corie Dhanoolal pulled a goal back for San Juan to give his team hope while Andel Andrews made it 3-2 in the 80th followed by a Brent Sam penalty conversion seven minutes later, to stun El Do West and send the match into the dreaded penalty shootout where San Juan failed to complete the turn around.

In the opener, St Augustine, runner-up to Arima North in the league blanked Toco 4-0 led by a double from captain Nicholas Marcano and one each by Ricardo John and Devonish Jordan and will meet El Dorado West in the semifinals at the same venue next Friday.

At Carapichaima East Secondary Ground, Chaguanas North, the Central Zone league runner-up also got a double from Deon O’Garro in the 25th and 67th and minutes, while Ainsely County added the other in 53rd in their 3-0 trouncing of Senior Division champion, Vishnu Boys Hindu College, to set up a semifinal date with Couva West.

Couva strolled past Gasparillo 3-0 over at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. Jaffet Williams scored in the 64th and 70th for Couva and Seon Edwards, added a third on the stroke of full-time while Gasprillo missed a last minute penalty.

Earlier on at Couva, former zonal powerhouse, Presentation College of Chaguanas suffered shock 4-2 penalty-kicks loss to Tabaquite in the first match of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Tabaquite had goalkeeper Jervon Garcia to thank for its victory as he made two saves in the shootout while Tabaquite also missed its second of five attempts.

Jabari Ramkissoon had given Tabaquite a 65th minute lead after a 0-0 first-half, but with two minutes left on the clock Brian Charles conjured up an equaliser for Presentation to force penalty kicks where his team stumbled.

Tabaquite now moves on to face newly crowned national Big Five and zonal champion Carapichaima East in the first Central semifinal next Thursday at Couva.

Today, the North Zone quarterfinals will kick off with a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo from 3 pm.

In the first match, Fatima will look for its third win of the season over debutants Diego Martin North, having won their two league meetings, 1-0 and 4-1 while at 5pm, zonal league runner-up, East Mucurapo and Trinity College, lock horns with both team drawing their clashes this season, 2-2 and 0-0.

T&T Newsday Reports.

EL DORADO West, the East Zone debutants in the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), yesterday booked their spot in the East Zonal Semi- Final round of the Coca Cola Intercol.

El Dorado West, formerly El Dorado Junior, needed kicks from the penalty spot to oust San Juan 4-2 after both teams battled to a 3-3 draw at the end of full time.

This was the second game of an East Zonal Quarter Final double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

El Dorado held a comfortable 3-0 lead, courtesy items from Stephon Lewis (23rd minute), Keshorn Seecharan (35th) and Jomol Osbourne (37th).

But San Juan responded in emphatic fashion, with Corey Dhanoolal (42nd), Andel Andrews (80th) and Brent Sam (a penalty in the 87th) getting their names on the scoresheet to force the game into penalties. However, El Dorado had the final say as they progressed to the next phase.

Earlier at Arima, St Augustine had no such worries as they drubbed Toco 4-0, due to a pair from Nicholas Marcano (18th and 82nd) and one apiece from Ricardo John (44th) and Jordan Devonish (67th).

Chaguanas North had little trouble in their Central Zonal Quarter-Final match against Vishnu Boys, the Central Senior Championship winners, at the Carapichaima Ground, as they cruised to a 3-0 victory. Couva West also recorded a 3-0 win, over Gasparillo, in the second of back-to-back matches at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

The earlier game resulted in a 4-2 win by Tabaquite over Presentation Chaguanas, via kicks from the penalty spot, after the scoreline read 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Today, the focus will be on the North Zonal quarter-finals, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo. From 3 pm, Fatima will meet Diego Martin (whom they defeated twice in the Championship Division) followed by the contest between Mucurapo and Trinity (both teams drew their two meetings thus far in 2012).

The League, yesterday morning, announced that the Tobago Zonal semi-finals has been rescheduled, once again, to Saturday, instead of next Thursday as was previously noted.
