Coaches Quotes (may not be accurate but somehting to the extent of) "James has little flaws and is ready for Professional Football) He is a better defender than Abu Bakar an Makan Hislop , probably noriega and those guys too. Saw a game he played ending of last year he was tough , quick , great aticipation, composed, and hard to pass.Since this is or as his last year in University , he should make big strides foward playing at a a higher level an should be more than ready by 2010.

Naps tame Tigers.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

It has taken Naparima College five years to get over the 6-0 mauling by St Anthony's College in the 2002 RBTT InterCol final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
With three goals in a span of 26 minutes, Naps may have done just that, in the end cruising to a comfortable 3-0 victory at the same venue and booking their place in Tuesday's BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League "Big Five" final.
Truth be told, the "Tigers" of Westmoorings lacked confidence, with some of their key players either missing in action or unable to make a meaningful contribution, through injury.
Most of the credit has to go to the South Zone champs, though, as they stuck almost flawlessly to a well-worked game plan.
Nigel Wright, Shahdon Winchester and Anthony Parris all struck the net from close range in the first half and with a three-goal deficit staring them in the face at half-time, the Tigers could not muster the strength for the uphill batte.
Even Naparima's rhythm section drowned out the sounds of St Anthony's own support and, in the end, they also had more to celebrate.
For the first ten minutes neither team settled, both trying to get a feel for each other. Wright had the earliest attempt at goal in the 11th, but shot over St Anthony's custodian Kevin Mussio's crossbar after controlling neatly at the edge of the penalty area. Skipper Uriah Bentick got his first try less than a minute later, firing just over from distance.
Naps then took full advantage of loose defending by their North Zone opponents, an unmarked Wright receiving wide on the left and, with time and space, he calmly picked his spot and beat the advancing Mussio.
The most innovative player in the Tigers attack was Emery Joyeau on the right flank, but he found little help up front. Mekel Williams headed wide for St Anthony's in the 28th and then striker Bradley Lawrence hit over from six metres soon after.
In the space of three minutes, the game was over as Naparima delivered the telling one-two combination. First, in the 38th, Winchester was picked out by Keston Smith and he obliged, heading the free kick past Mussio.
Parris was then given too much space on the left, raced past a defender and slotted under the onrushing goalkeeper.
The Tigers were desperate then and substituted a listless Bradley Lawrence for winger Micah Lewis, who never looked himself, having struggled with injury recently. Travis Joseph was the second substitution at half time, as St Anthony's tried to put more life into their attack.
Naps forte, however, is their defence and they neutralised everything which came their way.
The Southerners hung back to wait for the counterattack and shut down any attack from the wings, forcing St Anthony's to come through the centre. The closest they would come to goal was Bentick's right-footed drive in the 52nd, which forced Curtis Julien in Naps' goal to parry over.
The final whistle brought jubilant celebration for Naparima, who must now prepare for the winners of tomorrow's semi-final between East Zone champs San Juan Secondary Comprehensive and Tobago's Mason Hall Secondary. For a night, though, they can bask in the joy of a memorable win and at least ease some of the pain inflicted by the Tigers in 2002.

Mason Hall into SSFL 'Big Five' semis.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

Mason Hall Government Secondary continued their Cinderella story yesterday with a 1-0 victory over Central Zone champions Carapichaima in a BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) "Big Five" quarter-final at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago.
The new Tobago Zone kingpins, who secured their maiden Championship Division title last week, had 17-year-old striker Stefano Wright to thank for the winner in a close encounter. Just four minutes into the second half, Wright thumped home from close range off a cross ball, spoiling Carapichaima's perfect record in 2007.
The victory puts the previously little-known Mason Hall in Friday's SSFL Big Five semi-final against East champs San Juan Secondary Comprehensive at Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar. Mason Hall manager Rostan Wood was impressed with the opposition given by the visiting Carapichaima squad, but felt all his team's hard work had paid off in the encounter.
"The game was a 50-50 game," Wood told the Express after the win. "Anybody could have won. They [Mason Hall] have been training very hard and they still have room for improvement. But they worked according to the game plan, they followed what the coach told them, and the result showed."
In other SSFL action yesterday, 2006 North Zone winners Mucurapo Secondary Comprehensive only just escaped relegation when they thumped five goals past Diego Martin Secondary goalie Andrew Waldron.
Goals by five different strikers not only sunk their opponents, but forced a spirited--and unlucky--Diego Martin to the bottom of the "North" standings and into automatic demotion from the Championship Division.
Kevin Molino, Mutar Taylor, Akel Bruce, Allan Joseph and Kern St Louis all struck the net, turning a 3-0 hafltime lead into a devastating loss for their opponents, who have added an element of excitement, even against the better sides in the league this year. Only an inferior goal difference to Trinity College stopped "Diego" from returning to the top flight of schools football next year. The "Big Five" competition continues tomorrow with North Zone champs St Anthony's College and their South Zone counterparts Naparima College facing off at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 3.45 p.m.

Mason Hall tackle Carapichaima.
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

First-time Tobago Zone champions Mason Hall Government Secondary and their Central counterparts Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive kick off the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Big Five tournament today at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Tobago from 3.45 p.m.
For both teams, the league competition has ended, and only one of them will grace the semi-final stage come Friday. The teams are yet to meet on the field, with Mason Hall being the "babes" of the competition--in only their fourth year of existence and their second in the Championship Division. They aim, however, to take full advantage of the "underdogs" tag.
Carapichaima themselves do not know what it means to be national league champions. This year, according to manager Steve Gopeesingh, they intend to change that fact.
Last year, the Central Zone champs stumbled in a 5-1 whipping at the hands of Mucurapo Secondary Comprehensive in their quarter-final fixture. Gopeesingh explained that goalkeeping was his team's "Achilles Heel" in that loss. He is more assured this year.
"We're looking for a victory tomorrow (today) to be honest," Gopeesingh told the Express, yesterday. "To be honest, we're all confident of reaching the final."
Their less experienced opponents, who are enjoying home advantage today, will be hoping to spoil Carapichaima's perfect record.
On Saturday night, coach Sherwin Jordan hosted the entire Mason Hall squad at his Patience Hill home ahead of their final training session early yesterday morning. Jordan is hoping that same togetherness his team is exhibiting will be the key to victory.
"If the team stick to the instructions that they're given, I think that we have enough strength to win against Carapichaima," Jordan said, during a training session on Friday.
Strikers Jeffon Cornwall (14 goals) and Trent Lougheed (9) have been prolific for Carapichaima, and are two of the SSFL's top scorers thus far. Mason Hall have their own stars they rely on, such as striker Benton Charles (7) and influential attacking midfielder Daneil Cyrus, the only national Under-17 player from Tobago.
Cyrus is the team's talisman and is well respected by all the players, who feel they can be more than a handful for the visitors from Central Trinidad. That will not daunt Carapichaima, who have their eyes on the prize.
"We're focusing on our game, we're not focusing on the opponents," Gopeesingh declared.
With no history between the teams, it will be tough to predict a winner. But when the final whistle sounds, only one will be moving on to the Big Five semis.
North Zone competition will conclude today with Mucurapo and Diego Martin Secondary battling to stave off relegation, at the Fatima College Ground, in a bottom-of-the-table clash. Trinity, who have completed their schedule of matches, are also in the relegation zone.

Can someone explain why our National U-23 team is soo young, and SHI**Y?

Players like Aaron Downing 20 years , Mathew Bartholemew 19 years Larry Bachus 20/21 years are the few that i know of. Also there are so many quality players left off this team like Kezi Lara , Julis James and Fabien Lewis , Ricky Shakes , Yohance Marshall, Makan Hislop and company. Now almost vetarns ine the Prol leuague ,Brenton de Leon and Wendell Joseph .Jerol Forbes ,Richard Roy. What bout " Kenywne Jones ".  Lesoton Shade former Naprima Goal keeper Under 20 keeper and current Joe Public Super league keeper is techinally and physically a better keeper than Kevin Mussio and Kareem Gray who are BOTH STILL PLAYING IN THE SSFL. and are both 19 years old. Where d asss!? has this coach been doing his scouting and research on players? Woud love to see how this side does.  :-[

Naparima rule in SSFL 'Big Five'
By: Kern De Freitas (Express).

Naparima College made the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) National League final seem like a fight to the death, with some resolute defending to see their team to their second "Big Five" title with a 1-0 win over favourites San Juan Secondary Comprehensive yesterday at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.
Adisa Connel's free 41st minute header turned out to be enough to give "Naps" the win, as they remain the only unbeaten team for the 2005 BG T&T SSFL season.
Although their showing in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive promised better things in the title match, San Juan just could not reproduce the magic that gave them a berth in the final. And Naparima had enough "Bluemagik"-as suggested by one of their supporter's flags-to make the difference.
From the kick-off, Naparima showed early aggression, but it was apparent that defending would be the key to their victory after San Juan skipper Elijah Manners found the net in the second minute, only to be adjudged offside.
Goalkeeper Leston Shade would be the real hero for Naparima, thwarting San Juan strikers Manners, Jonathan Romain and Kerry Daniel. At the other end, although 13-year-old Shahdon Winchester was having a tough time with the San Juan defence, Connel was creating quite a stir.
And in the 41st minute, he sent Naparima ahead. Renato Ramlochan caused Samuel to punch wide a header in desperation and from the ensuing corner, Connel rose from an unmarked position to head home, for a 1-0 Naps advantage at halftime.
The second period was when San Juan tested the mettle of their opponents. Manners and company forced a number of timely saves from Shade, but a committed defence threw everything at their attackers to keep the ball out.
It was clear Naps would have little chance at a second half goal so they needed to maintain their lead. Even so, San Juan had the perfect chance to draw level, but Kadeem Gibbs headed overbar from point-blank range in the 77th.
Even with more than four minutes of stoppage time, while the Naparima fans chanted "Blow de whistle, blow de whistle" at the referee, San Juan could not find the target, leaving supporters blue after the final whistle, as jubilant Naps fans made a lap of honour.
After the match, Naps manager Richard Nagaur expressed pride in his team's performance.
"I think we proved to everybody that Naps have the goods and that they can deliver," said Nagaur. "The guys played their hearts out. It may not have been our best game, but we scored one goal and they were able to defend that.
"We just have to keep our confidence and play to our strengths," Nagaur continued, "and we will win those (upcoming) games. A lot teams will have that respect for Naps now."

Teams:

Naparima:
Leston Shade; Sherrick Hillaire (capt), Dazel Lara, Kevin De Verteuil, Cion Samuel; Nigel Wright (Jamol Pierre 60th), Renato Ramlochan, Jayson Joseph (Dwight Charles 65th), Javed Mohammed; Shahdon Winchester (Andres Bestidas 85th), Adisa Connel.

Cricket Anyone / PowerGen intercol final
« on: April 28, 2005, 07:24:48 PM »
Despite the apparent doom and gloom that all Caribbean cricket fans are currently experiencing, the Power Generation Company still regard the sponsorship of the Secondary Schools Cricket League as a meaningful and beneficial investment in the nation’s young aspiring cricketers.

This was stated by Omar Khan, corporate communications manager of PowerGen at yesterday’s launch of the 2005 InterCol final between former champion teams—Presentation College, Chaguanas and Princes Town Senior Comprehensive.

It is the sixth consecutive year that the PowerGen InterCol final will be played under lights tomorrow at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre, from 6 pm.

He added that it was at times like these that sponsors of the game needed the support of all the other stakeholders, so together they could work towards a realistic plan for the upliftment of cricket.

“We at PowerGen do have hope that our cricket will return to those heady days when the West Indies team dominated cricket for 17 years from 1977 to 1994. However, to return to those days though, our cricket needs to go back to its roots and establish solid foundations at the youth and school levels on which we can build later on,” Khan stated.

The most successful cricket manager in recent times, Khan said that when he spoke about hope and optimism for the future, he based his facts that all the players who were members of the T&T Under-15 team in the recent regional championships were products of the PowerGen Secondary Schools Cricket League.

Khan said tomorrow’s final would provide the young players with an opportunity to be exposed to a level of competition and a match situation that was similar to a limited overs day/night international game.

“Players in coloured clothing, white ball, umpires in all black, live television and radio coverage and a packed Guaracara Park—this type of exposure for our young cricketers could only redound their benefit to reach the highest level of the game,” Khan further stated.

Several of the country’s talented players will be on show in the 30-over final, including a number of T&T Under-19 players—skipper Manoj Sirju, left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh, off-spinner Ancil Bhaggan will be a part of the “Pres” team, while opening batsman William Perkins will line up with the Princes Town outfit.

Also on show will be T&T’s latest batting sensation Adrian Barath who is a member of the “Pres” team. Barath copped the Most Valuable Player in the just concluded Regional Under-15 series.
