Football / Poll for our new coach?
« on: March 26, 2005, 02:45:46 PM »
Ok so we have an identifiable perceived problem: that to be :the coach. But what is the solution?

Who do you suggest to be the successor:

Latapy?

Phillips?

Corneal?

Some foreign 'flunkie?"

 BSC  and Warner:

See what the ENGLISH did and what they are saying:

England in control.

England 4-0 N Ireland: Cole leads rout

England finally reaffirmed their rich potential
with a scoring spree against Northern Ireland.

David Beckham battles with Stuart Elliott (MikeHewitt/GettyImages)

The Irish were superb in the first half as they held Sven-Goran Eriksson's side and raised a few worries among those England fans frustrated by tepid friendly displays against Spain and Holland.

This is an England side that, despite failing to make it past the quarter-finals of a major tournament under Eriksson, always tends to save their better displays for competitive games.

However, having spent all week talking up their World Cup chances they came vibrantly alive after the break in striking three goals within just nine minutes in this qualifier.

Joe Cole, who made an impressive first competitive start on the left flank, made the breakthrough with a crisp 20-yard shot.

Michael Owen then struck from close range before the hapless Chris Baird diverted a cross by the excellent Wayne Rooney into his own net.

With England now rampant, Frank Lampard's drive was deflected in off Colin Murdock to compound the Irish woes, although their faint qualification hopes always rested on next week's game in Poland.

England, meanwhile, will face Azerbaijan on a high once again and while they should be expected to vanquish an Irish side ranked 111th in the world, they did all that could be expected of them.

Under pressure to deliver, they duly produced a second-half display that excited fans' pulses, if not exactly set them racing due to the one-sided nature of the contest.

WE TOO ARE UNDER PRESSURE. SEE HOW THEY HANDLED IT?
THEY let the talking hapen on the field. We have to play our game, unleash our rich potential for scoring and handle the pressure with a positive result as the English.

Kahn backs Klinsmann's tactics

BERLIN, March 26 (Reuters) - Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn said on Saturday his performance had improved since coach Juergen Klinsmann deprived him of both the captaincy and a guaranteed starting position in the team.
Kahn, who led Germany to the 2002 World Cup final, produced several poor performances and made a string of blunders for both Germany and Bayern Munich over the next two seasons before being demoted when Klinsmann took over in August.

The new coach put Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann on an equal footing with Kahn, the two rivals taking turns in goal.

'That's certainly one aspect of it,' Kahn told Bild newspaper when asked if Klinsmann's policy was responsible for his improved form. 'I have had to defend what I have accomplished in my career.'

Klinsmann's rotating of the two players was criticised by Sepp Maier, the Bayern and Germany goalkeeping coach. Klinsmann, who responded by firing Maier, argues competition for places is needed to help improve the side before the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Kahn said the team, having automatically qualified for the tournament, had to rely solely on friendlies so 'Juergen Klinsmann is doing the right thing by raising the level of competition internally. All 33 players know that everyone's got a chance to make the World Cup team and no one has a guarantee'.

ARROGANCE OF THE U.S.A.

Quote Sheet: U.S. & Mexico in the Media

 3/24/05 6:30 PM

 U.S. NATIONAL TEAM

"0-21-1? It really doesn't mean anything to me. We really have this belief that we should have a good chance to win when we go anywhere in (North or) Central America and the Caribbean. First of all, we're better prepared than we've ever been."
Landon Donovan, describing his approach to the game this Sunday

“I once saw Cobi cough up something that looked like a brownie.  It's like never smoking your whole life, then being told to smoke a pack of cigarettes and try to function normally. You get sick.”
Former national team forward Eric Wynalda, describing the air quality in Mexico City

“This is what we live to do, to play in front of 100,000 people. With the three weeks of camp that we've had and the efforts the guys have put out and the results that we've got, I think we're prepared."
Pablo Mastroeni, on the preparations for Mexico

“I think our team has the confidence they can win every time they step on the field, and that includes on Sunday in Mexico City. And I think we will step on that field Sunday trying to win. I'm not certain that there have been many U.S. teams in the past that really believed that.”
U.S. Manager Bruce Arena, on the team's confidence heading into Sunday.

If them have all the confidence them I now understand why there is none left for our team. We need to adopt this kind of thinking when we face all our opposition. PLEASE BSC instill this thinking in we boys.
I like that sense of belief and conviction that the U.S.A. brings to the table. This mental mind set  is 99% of where success lies.

As part of my coaching philosophy, I always say to my teams " you need to THINK SUCCESS, TALK SUCCESS AND EXPECT SUCCESS"

Ah hope allyuh seeing the make up of the English team; dey have dropped most of their  players who may have WestIndian or African descent.

Now allyuh go on support the 'batty man" english teams and leagues.

I keep saying we ought to be promoting our regional teams , our regional style of soccer and our regional people. Think of this when you mention Brazil, what style of soccer comes to mind? mention Brazil what do you think of? Now mention TNT or Jamacia what style comes to mind?

This is what I mean; let's follow our teams and wheer thay are going NOT the EUROCENTRIC media coverage.

"A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME IS STILL A ROSE"

In this era of mass marketing, I see where sports teams try to drum up  funds and fan interest by either bringing out new jerseys or in this case by changing their name as proposed by "adviser Jack Austin Warner announced a name change in keeping with the effort to get T&T to the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Warner said "Soca Warriors" implied gaiety, a stark contrast to Trinidad and Tobago's effort at World Cup qualification, which he said was serious business."Wow what was dis a news flash? or did the power go out all these years? Is now he realize that this is SERIOUS BUSINESS?  Wait nah; yuh really think Mr. Warner that the problem is with the name?

Now if we had a name like "soca jumbies" or soca Tanties" I could see an argument for a revised name but come on, do you think the players are  thinking , 'gaiety" " feteing" when thy go out and play the game?

If it's anything and with due respect to the efforts of  the "Strike Squad" they 'struck out' in the final qualifying game. Did that name incite fear, or strike power? If then you want a game to remind the players then  let's see which names could do it, how about: "WINNERS" "UNBEATABLES" " SUPREMES" "WHALERS" "WARSOMES"  "WRECKERS" You get the point. Let's not focus on the aspect of a name ; let's go and play the game the way we ought to play.

Or gosh we have more serious problems than that? Boy yuh eh see how others go laugh at we? The biggest statement from we leaders is dat we go change we name to make we more serious about how we approach the game. Now that iis real strategy boy dat is Trini tactics!!!!!!

I see that Jamacia made it to world cup with their name. No one implied that their name is about  gaiety, frolicking and ganga?

Let's find the real problems to address. Mr. Warner come in and check out dis site; take yuh time and read all the posts; yuh getting all we advise fuh free. Yuh eh have tuh hire no foreign big arse tuh tell yuh what tuh do.

I wish it was so simple as one man one ball; like I said on paper we look good. Man for man we should be going into this game with players of superior experience but the true haert and soul lies in the playing of the game.

Hunches, theories and gut reactions are all we have at this time. Based on our recent past performances, we the fans have little solid belief in a TNT that squad that  could go out there and dominate any team at this time.

« on: March 26, 2005, 12:25:13 AM »
Now just to take this discussion in a different light. If Mr. Warner alleged that he had put up funds but had no supporters to assist him in alleviating the deal for the broadcast is true, then we are on one side of the argument.

Another way to look at this is that there were no funds  in the first place and by denying the populace to view what could  be another disasterous showing by our team, shields the public from the utter nonsense, mal practices, inept management and lack of adequate direction from top to bottom.

By not securing the broadcasting rights, leaves the decison making about the team back with the 'three ring circus' entourage emanating from the 'Center of Excellence'

I think it is a  hasty generalization to say that the lack of local broadcast constitutes a lack of patriotism. If it shows anything is the lack of cooperate sponsorship in football.

If we are to rebiuld a national pride and ethos of football, we ought to see coopertae sponsorship diverting coverage in this area. get rid of all the American Propaganda on T.V and all the dishes with 'American crap' and focus on local cultural icons and productions.

Like I siad we need to re estabilsh our 'CULTURE of FOOTBALL'

I made the same inquiries to national media coverage in Canada about the lack of diverse soccer coverage on TSN and The Score. Every Saturday they have some  English Expatriate with a bad case of nasal voice impediment broadcasting soccer games form all over Europe. The coverage is very 'EUROCENTRIC' and bias toward one arae in the world. We clammouring tuh see we boys in action and that is not even covered!!!!

I mean Canada is part of the CONCACAF region and yet little is done to promote the name nationally. Interest shuold be heightened here in Canada but it is not so. So before I blast TNT for the lack of coverage, I must put that in perspective, what are the shows which are presently absorbing the sponsorship of our local cooperate dollars?

I say we also boycott those who are seeking to make aquick $$$$ through that homeviewtt.

I mean come on now, the airwaves are full of transmissions. Leh we have some coverage and develop a meainful following among the people.

Look dis is just meh theories; I eh know fuh sure but ah suspicious and ah just know dat if dey cah win dis game, man the dream done!!!!!!

I will not underestimate Guatemala as I saw them play Canada in Vancouver in the summer. However if man for man we have a more experienced team. As I said before what are the intangibles which the Guatemalans are bringing to this game?

I hope we have those intangibles as well.

Look you need points and Guatemala shakey at the moment. Go een dey wid all guns blazing. I agree with albertatrini, forget coach coach coach. If man on the forum who eh see a game but could conclude the coach eh good then obviously these experience players could recognize the same.

I agree!!!!!! Observer. It comes down to playing the dam game. I mean I watched Yorke many years ago in the last WCQ in Edmonton Canada. I mean the man standing around  making everyone else work to feed him the ball!!!!

I hope all man have anew attitude. Is an all out  battle in dem hostile latin countries. Ahead "FULL FORCE"
