Wasn't Saviola supposed to be the heir to Maradona's throne before Messi?

UEFA Cup - Saviola joins Benfica
Eurosport - Sun, 28 Jun 16:29:00 2009

Benfica have completed the signing of Javier Saviola from Real Madrid for five million euros.

The 27-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the option of a fourth with the Portuguese giants after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

The Argentina international had been seeking a move away from Real for some time after failing to establish himself at the Bernabeu.

Indeed, Saviola made less than twenty league appearnaces during his two seasons in the Spanish capital since joining from Barcelona, scoring just four goals in La Liga in that time.

Real were willing to allow his departure following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka recently.

A statement on the team website confirmed as much, saying: "The club want to thank the player and wish him the best of success in this new stage of his career."

Benfica appointed former Braga coach Jorge Jesus as their new manager last week.

He needs to go, the Catalans don't respect him enough given his loyalty and prowess.  He is of high quality and should not seemingly be on the outs from Barca every year like this.

"However, it seems Eto'o is unhappy at being forced out of the Nou Camp, where he has one season of his present contract left to run.

And, rather than accept the riches of offer at City, he is preparing to see out the final year of his contract before leaving Barcelona for nothing next summer."

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus ;with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

If that is the case, then he will leave Barca on a free transfer at the end of next season - so maybe that is why Laporta trying to offload him now, bank that stratospheric offer and use it towards acquiring David Villa.

It make business sense yes, but the fact that every year he name jumpin up in de steelband he have ah right to want to spite dem.  Is not like he been ah slouch or inconsistent.  He is easily among the top 10 target men and maybe even in many people's top 5.  So why constatntly dangle him like that.  He seem like the type that will reject any offer just to spite dem in troot cause if it was about $ the prospect of being the highest paid player would have easily softened him.

Doyle set for Wolves move
SkySports.com

Sky Sports News understands Wolves are set to announce the signing of Kevin Doyle on Tuesday morning.

The Reading striker has been a long-term target for Wolves boss Mick McCarthy and it is thought a fee in the region of £6million has been enough to land the Republic of Ireland international.

A press conference has been called for 9.30am where it is expected Doyle will be unveiled as the Premier League new boys' latest signing.

Wolves were not the only club to come in for Doyle as the 25-year-old also reportedly attracted attention from the likes of Aston Villa, Everton, Sunderland, Bolton and Fulham.

The Irish international is a proven goalscorer at Premier League level having hit the net 13 times for the Royals in their inaugural season in the big time.

McCarthy has been busy in the transfer market since Wolves' promotion last term but it is the capture of Doyle that will be seen as his biggest coup to date.

Valencia close to United deal
SkySports.com

Sky Sports News sources understand that Antonio Valencia could complete his switch from Wigan to Manchester United on Monday.

United are said to be close to completing the £16million deal with the Red Devils keen to replace the huge void left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old is believed to be in Manchester undergoing a medical and the completion of the move is said to be imminent.

The Latics are set to make a massive profit on the winger after signing him on a permanent deal from Villarreal in January 2008 for a fee believed to be around £3million after enjoying 18 months on loan at the JJB Stadium.

The Ecuador international is unlikely to score as many goals as his Portuguese predecessor with just seven strikes in 89 appearances for the Latics.

However, his ability is not in doubt after three successful seasons in the Premier League.

Despite the big-money transfer it remains to be seen whether Valencia will handed the legendary number seven shirt at Old Trafford.

Serie A - Milito completes Inter switch
Eurosport - Mon, 29 Jun 22:24:00 2009

Argentina striker Diego Milito completed his move to Internazionale from Genoa, one of several proposed transfers between the two Serie A clubs.

The 30-year-old, who scored 24 league goals last season as surprise packages Genoa bagged a Europa League spot, has penned a four-year deal with the Italian champions.

An Inter statement gave no details of the fee. Genoa team mate Thiago Motta, the Brazilian midfielder whose career was threatened by injury when at Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, is also due to be unveiled as an Inter player in the next few days.

Italy Under-21 striker Robert Acquafresca, on loan at Cagliari last season, has moved to Genoa from Inter as part of the deal but is being immediately sent to Atalanta.

Genoa are also in the process of signing Inter's Argentine forward Hernan Crespo and Atalanta striker Sergio Floccari.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho, hoping to cling on to restless striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and right back Maicon, is keen to buy Ricardo Carvalho and Deco from former club Chelsea while Twente Enschede forward Marko Arnautovic is close to signing.

To make room for the new players which Mourinho hopes will give Inter more edge in the Champions League, forward Julio Cruz is leaving with Fiorentina expressing an interest. Media reports say French midfielder Patrick Vieira wants to return to France.

Valencia joins Man Utd from Wigan
By: BBC Sport

Manchester United have signed Wigan Athletic winger Antonio Valencia on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old Ecuador international is manager Sir Alex Ferguson's first signing since Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid in a £80m transfer.

"Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan," said Ferguson.

Valencia's transfer is reported to have cost United as much as £16m.

"I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team," added Ferguson.

How will Antonio Valencia do at Old Trafford
United have been in contact with Wigan over a deal for Valencia over the last "two to three months", according to Latics chairman Dave Whelan.

"I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here," said Valencia, who scored three goals for Wigan last season.

"Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can't wait to get started."

Valencia has played 34 times for Ecuador, scoring four goals.

Lyon Teammate: Benzema Is Close To Joining Manchester United

Goal.com 52 minutes ago

Miralem Pjanic has revealed that his Lyon team-mate Karim Benzema is close to joining Manchester United.

The forward has been linked with a move away from Lyon this summer and even numerous claims from his agent that he will stay has not quelled the speculation.

Now, Pjanic has told sportsport.ba that he thinks it is just a matter of time before Benzema moves to England.

"Benzema is nearly gone to Old Trafford. The English club are willing to pay €45 million for him and it is just a question of the day when he will move to England," he said.

"He does not have anything against going to Manchester. Our side will be reinforced by Lisandro Lopez, the Argentine forward from Porto."

Certainly Benzema seems like an ideal signing for United as the club will lose the goals that attacking midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo provided.

At the age of 21, Benzema is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in Europe at the moment and whilst Lyon will not let him leave on the cheap, they have already admitted they might be powerless to keep him.

Tevez trying to start ah new soap ........  d man exhibiting real tabancanistic behaviour dread

Carlos Tevez has revealed his ''pain'' at being stuck on the bench at Manchester United and blamed manager Sir Alex Ferguson for their failure to defend the Champions League title.

• Editor's Blog: Tevez should put up and shut up

The Argentine has spent time on the bench.

The Argentine, who will leave Old Trafford this summer, was left on the bench against Barcelona as Ferguson chose to start with Cristiano Ronaldo, Park Ji-sung and Wayne Rooney in attack.

However, the striker claims that Fergie's decision to leave him out of the Rome final backfired and caused the Red Devils to lose the chance to defend their trophy.

"You cannot argue with Alex Ferguson," said Tevez. "He is like the president of England. It is impossible, you always lose.

"But he made a mistake to leave me on the bench. That was the only final the team had lost since I had been at Manchester United."

Tevez is expected to sign for Manchester City for £25m this week, but he insists he had little choice but to leave the champions.

"My family knows how much I suffered at United. I could not arrive home after a match or a training session and forget my pain," he said. "It was not good and I transmitted all my sadness to them."

Olympique Lyonnais striker Karim Benzema is set to join Real Madrid after both clubs agreed a €35m deal, according to reports in the French and Spanish media.

Karim Benzema: French international looks set to join the Real Madrid revolution

French radio station RMC quote the Les Bleus player's agent as saying only personal terms need to be settled before the deal goes through.

Meanwhile, Spanish newspapers Marca and AS both claim the highly-rated 21-year-old will shortly join £80m Cristiano Ronaldo and £56m Kaka in Madrid as president Florentino Perez constructs a new team of galacticos.

Benzema is due to return to training with Lyon on July 2 and will be told that a deal has been agreed, according to the reports.

If the transfer does go through Madrid will have spent just under €250,000m on new players under Perez.

If yuh local is the same or better quality nothing.  But players of lower football caliber have been treated better by Man U in the past.  Tevez is a world class player.  i try not to compare him with Berba because they are drastically different, but I don't see how DB got so much run and CT had to scrub bench.  And that whole wait till the end of season to offer a contract is a gross disrespect really.  That says we'll only sign you if our options necessitate it and Tevez is a better player than that.  He have a right to speak out if he choose, and somehow I doubt he seeking out the media to discuss it. I think the less neutral (possibly Man U haters) journalists are seeking his story for which he isn't holding back.

How's allyuh French?
