Okay i found a vid with some commentary on the last meeting in the World cup between brasil and USA and why the decision to fire the coach was a knee jerk reaction when in fact they should have probably looked at the players themselves for the let down on the field.

They will go the way of Hope Solo as that is their poster girl they trying to push. She will cuss somebody out one of these days or rest some hard cuff on them and then they will make excuses again. The top players on the team did not like the coach.
Regarding the blame game. As you stated, no one blamed the players. Look at the goal that Marta scored. She beat the first defender ( Ellertson I think), where was the second defender? Then Cat Whitehill (who was commentating in the Brazil vs EQ game and kept asking why Marta still in de game) came flying in, no patience to hold up Marta from attacking, no side on stance nothing. Just a big galloping dinosaur that got shredded and left Scurry for dead at the feet of Marta. All game the individual defending was absolutely terrible. The USA inability to criticize themselves when they play is their strength and greatest weakness. Just like this last game vs Sweden, where they never adjusted the defense in the first half. Listen to Foudy and Drake whenever a player is left out of the squad. They go out of their way to ensure that the their viewers know the player was not "dropped", just that the coach is giving everyone a chance to be part of the team. Yet Prinz was benched because she was not good enough.
Everyone blamed Greg Ryan and Briana Scurry, and empathised with Hope Solo. If you looked at the Olympics semi-finals (I believe it was) when the USA beat Brazil 2-0, you could have known that if Brazil had improved their fitness they would beat the USA. The Brazilian played all over the USA, but the USA superior physical attributes trumped Brazil that day. The Brazilians returned and destroyed the USA. They should have expected that. The USA players could not efefctively deal with the individual skills of the Brazilians. With the emphasis on passing in the USA soccer culture, the US womens' would not have experienced to many players consistently running at them while executing moves, stops, fakes, feints and change of direction.
