It has amazes me that we keep playing a high back line when 1. The GK decision on coming out needs improvement, and 2. Our defenders have no speed and quickness.

after defeating the USA, the Jamaicans were on the edge of their seats as they backed Guatemala to either defeat or tie with hosts Honduras, which would have secured direct passage to the world cup for the young Jamaicans.  As it were, Honduras edged Guatemala 2-1 which means Jamaica must now qualify with a victory in its next game.  In hindsight, failing to beat Cuba (2-2) could end up being very costly for they Jamaicans.

The tournament is over for us, have to look forward to 2017 FiFa U-20 World Cup qualifying for this group. Hope fully we will have a 18 month plan to keep these boys together and playing after studying this experience.

I looked at the Concacaf website at our statistics for the tournament, some of them are:

11th/12th Tied with Cuba and St. Lucia for 2nd to least goals scored---4
9th shots on goal----41
10th in fouls committed--45
1st in fouls suffered--75
11th/12th with Yellow Cards

I would appreciate some feedback about what the stats above say about team philosophy, style of play and anything else you might think.

By comparison our Caribbean rivals Jamaica were:

7th Goals Scored--9
4th Shots on Goal-64
1st Fouls committed--74
11th/12 Fouls suffered
1st with Yellow Cards -14

So wah allyuh tink?

The Trinidad and Tobago U-17 football team are back in the country following their humiliating early exit from the CONCACAF U-17 Championships in Honduras.

The team drew one match and lost four conceding 15 goals in the process.

Coach of the team Shawn Cooper said the results were obviously a disappointment and tried to explain what went wrong.

Cooper cyah be serious. The man blame the players yes. How you pick a GK and then say he had never played competitive matches before........WTF. This guy is some type of delirious and suffer from the same unprofessional and lack of experience he accuse the young boys of.

This confirms everything I heard that he did to players during the tournament. He need not be a coach.

What was he doing in T&T leading up to the Camp in Panama? Sitting waiting for 2, 3, 4, 5 camps to magically make us better? This is arseness in out National coaches constantly passing the buck to the players when we do not perform well. If we had done much better I bet you he would have been physically present in front of cameras and microphones. But he hiding and giving a 30 second comment on a phone.

If the preparation from the TTFA was not good enough for YOU to do your best, then why do you think it is enough for the boys to do better?

Absolutely, childish, classless and amateurish from this guy. He need to have several seats.

We have NO leaders, NONE that are placed in a position to impart quality characteristics and traits onto our players.

somehow I ent get that from that interview.
He said players need to take more responsibility for their personal preparation, maybe there were specific instances...
He was using the example of the goalkeepers lack of experience due to lack of adequate preperation aka. Cancelled camps where players  would get the necessary preperation.
Don't see it as blaming players. The last team he has was better prepared and we got better results. Men was calling for him to be senior team coach and all....
This crop of players were at a disadvantage to begin with. Let us take it for what it is.

Argentina seems not to have fielded a quality squad. Lost by destruction 4-0 v. Germany and is losing 2-0 versus Australia as I post. Confirmation of a perspective.

Meanwhile Germany and Mexico are battling for 1st place in the group. Mexico is up 1-0 courtesy a deflected shot.

EDIT: 2-0. Excellent delivery on a corner. Brilliant header by Venegas. @ approx 65'

EDIT: Germany scores as I post. 2-1.

Round of 16 action commenced today. Brazil is in a tense battle with New Zealand. Tied 0-0 @ 90+. Mexico, barring any last minute dramatics, will make the home team and fans cry.

Other two matches to kick off in about three hours (Nigeria v Australia and South Korea v Belgium).

Round of 16

Brazil edge past resolute New Zealand
FIFA.com

Brazil edged past a brave New Zealand side in Vina Del Mar and needed a stoppage-time penalty kick to win 1-0 and advance to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 quarter-fnals.

The first half in Vina Del Mar was characterised by a resilient New Zealand defensive performance even though Brazil, without star Lincoln due to a red card from the previous game, enjoyed the majority of possession. The Young All Whites were able to limit their South American opponents' chances, however goalkeeper Michael Woud was called upon to make three key saves in the first half, denying Geovane and Luis Henrique on two separate occasions.

New Zealand were unable to get a single shot off in the first half, however, they were appealing for a penalty kick when Connor Probert was brought down in the area.

New Zealand had a heart-in-mouth moment early in the second half when Woud, who had been flawless during the match, left his penalty area to make a clearance, only for it land at the feet of Luis Henrique whose shot was drilled straight at the New Zealand defense and cleared.

Woud made a save at his near post in the 62nd minute after an extended period of Brazilian pressure on the New Zealand backline. And just when the momentum seemed to be on Brazil's side, Kleber conceded a penalty kick to New Zealand after tripping Lucas Imrie in the area. However it was heartbreak for New Zealand as James McGarry missed the resulting penalty kick, blasting his shot over the crossbar. Unfortunately for McGarry that would not be the worst part of his day.

After enduring a couple of chances from New Zealand, Brazil continued to control the game at the Estadio Sausalito and had two dangerous free-kicks near the end of the 90 minutes but were unable to convert them. New Zealand stayed resolute in the back and Woud and Co thought they had done enough to hang on and send the match to penalties, however McGarry fouled Luis Henrique in the penalty area in the last minute of injury time. Luis Henrique then converted his penalty sharply to his left and the referee promptly blew his whistle for full time

Brazil will play the winner of the Round of 16 match between Nigeria and Australia.

Round of 16

Mexico into last eight, send hosts out
FIFA.com

Mexico came from behind to see off Chile with a 4-1 win in a fervent Chillan atmosphere to send the hosts out of the competition at the Round of 16 stage, and put the two-time FIFA U-17 World Cup winners into the last eight. Brian Leiva's opener saw the Estadio Nelson Oyarzún Arenas erupt in jubilant celebration, but the fans' joy was momentary. Claudio Zamudio tapped El Tri level before turning provider for Pablo Lopez to put Mario Arteaga's side ahead. Lopez in turn crossed for Eduardo Aguirre to score before Diego Cortes rubberstamped the victory.

The first big chance of the game fell Mexico’s way, with Zacarias Lopez scrambling to tip Jose Esquivel’s header past his left-hand post, before the same player’s header goes just wide from the resulting corner kick. But it would be Chile who went ahead five minutes before the interval. A perfect inswinging corner from Rene Melendez found Leiva, who nodded past Abraham Romero in the Mexican goal.

The hosts’ lead was short-lived, as El Tri sprung quickly to level. Aguirre played the ball wide to Kevin Magana, who squared across the box to the sliding Zamudio who tapped in a simple finish. Chile responded, with Gabriel Mazuela then finding space on the right and fizzed a cross towards Allende, which just missed the diminutive No10. Melendez picked the ball up on the left and struck the ball back across the box, but his cross-shot flashed wide.

Zamudio turned provider for Mexico’s second, pivoting on the edge of the Chilean penalty area and teeing up the onrushing Pablo Lopez. The midfielder showed wonderful technique to hit a first time effort with the outside of his left foot past the Chile goalkeeper. Pablo Lopez then retrieved the ball on the Mexican left, close to the corner flag and whipped in a delicious cross. Zacarias Lopez waited for the ball but Aguirre nipped in ahead of the Chilean goalkeeper and poked home.

Cortes' late effort saw him find space in the Chilean penalty area before sweeping past Zacarias Lopez to add further gloss to the victory. Mexico's win sees them into the quarter-final, where they head to Coquimbo to face the victor of tomorrow's clash between Russia and Ecuador.

Round of 16

Osimhen leads imperious champs past Aussies
FIFA.com

Reigning FIFA U-17 World Cup champions Nigeria advanced to a quarter-final meeting against Brazil on the back of a hat-trick from the impressive Victor Osimhen, ending Australia’s run with a one-sided 6-0 victory in Vina Del Mar.

The tale of the first half was compacted into a three-minute period as Nigeria scored twice sandwiched either side of a gilt-edged opening for Australia.

It was 2-0 at the interval, and the game was still a contest until the final 17 minutes before Nigeria ran riot against an Australian side looking flat after surviving the ‘group of death’.

The Aussies started in pro-active fashion, but it was Funsho Ibrahim Bamgboye who hit the post with a rasping shot from the edge of the penalty area as Nigeria’s first effort narrowly failed to break the deadlock.

That moment came on 22 minutes as Osimhen showed just why he is the tournament’s leading goalscorer by bursting forward with pace and power on the left, before turning his defender and sliding the ball impressively inside the far post.

Australia could have drawn level immediately with Cameron Joice seeing his shot saved, while Lucas Derrick pushed the follow-up wide as a golden opportunity was spurned.

Almost immediately Nigeria were two in front as Funsho Bambgboye went to ground in the penalty area, and Kelechi Nwakali coolly slotted home the resultant penalty.

The two goals seemed to inspire the Nigerians who took a greater hold as the half wore on creating several half-openings around the Aussie goal.

Nigeria continued their powerful performance after the break, and although Australia dominated possession for periods, it was the Africans who ended the contest with a third.

Osimhen scored twice in the space of six minutes, the second with another laser-perfect drive into the top corner.

The deflated Aussies conceded to more goals in the dying minutes as firstly substitute Edidiong Michael Essien, and then Samuel Chukwueze, inflicted further pain as Nigeria stormed into the last-eight in confident fashion.

Round of 16

Belgium break new ground
FIFA.com

Ten-man Belgium won their first ever FIFA U-17 World Cup knockout game, defeating Korea Republic 2-0 in a straightforward victory that booked the European side a last-eight date with the victors of Costa Rica and France's clash in Puerto Montt on Thursday.

Birthday boy Jorn Vancamp became the first player to score against the Taeguk Warriors at Chile 2015, before Matthias Verreth's late stunner confirmed the European side's progress. Lee Seungwoo saw his penalty saved by Jens Teunckens after Laurent Lemoine was sent off, and the Koreans could not capitalise on their advantage during the final 20 minutes.

Belgium took the initiative early on. Lee Sangmin surrendered possession in the middle of the Korea Republic midfield, which led to Belgium springing a swift counter attack. Vancamp latched onto Dante Rigo's long ball which the Korean defence failed to cut out and the No19 kept his composure to slot underneath Ahn Joonsoo, the first goal that the Asian side had conceded at Chile 2015.

Just before the interval, Terry Osei-Berkoe switched from the left to Vancamp, who was in good position but missed the ball completely. Verreth follows up with a powerful shot, which went close.

Belgium threatened again in the second half, with Osei-Berkoe unable to finish after Verreth had cut back across the penalty area.

Verreth sealed the victory with a wonderful effort. A long clearance from the Belgian defence was chased down by the long-legged frontman. The PSV Eindhoven forward reached it ahead of the Korea Republic defence, cut inside onto his left foot and hit a thunderous drive past the despairing dive of Ahn Joonsoo, who was left with no chance.

Two substitutes combined for Korea Republic to create an opportunity for the Asian side to pull a goal back. Lee Sangheon slipped in Oh Sehun, who was pulled back by Laurent Lemoine, who saw red for his indiscretion. Seungwoo stuttered in his run up, and Teunckens guessed right, keeping out his spot kick.

The Koreans did not take advantage of their extra man in the closing stages, with Belgium holding firm and Teunckens in particularly inspired form to keep out a Kim Jungmin overhead kick. The historic victory for the Belgians sees them head to Concepcion for their last eight clash, against either Los Ticos or Les Bleuets.
