Akim Andrews scored twice yesterday to lead the St Augustine “Green Machine” to an easy 2-0 win over Trinity College East in their top of the table BGT&T Secondary Schools Football League East Zone clash in St Augustine yesterday.
The home team played the better football throughout the contest and really should have gotten a few more goals but most of their attempts were either wide or lacked the power to trouble Leon Timothy in goal for Trinity.
After a couple of chances by both teams inside the first 15 minutes, Andrews went on the attack, collecting the ball on the edge of the penalty area before showing off his dribbling skills, beating two Trinity East defenders before unleashing a low shot past Timothy.
St Augustine seemed a bit too relaxed after the opener but still Trinity could hardly get the ball close to goal, instead opting for long range efforts, most of which had little chance of getting past Romario Romain in goal for the home team.
It was almost inevitable that Andrews would find the back of the net again. This time it was in the 53rd minute.
Trinity East started to play better later in the second half, with substitutes Nkosi Felix and Dharon Sutherland looking dangerous coming down to the end, but they still could not break the Green Machine defence.
Trinity East might just have to tweak their strategy and maybe their starting line-up a bit but they look like they could be a surprise package later in the season.
Elsewhere in the East, defending champions Arima North beat Valencia 4-0 while San Juan North had three unanswered goals against El Dorado East.
It was a goal fest in Central with defending champions Carapichaima East beating Vishnu Boys 5-0 and Tabaquite Secondary defeating Couva West 11-0. The other game in Central saw Chaguanas North beating Presentation College Chaguanas 2-1.
