St Augustine Secondary clinched the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League East Zone title and the first berth of the “Big Five” competition yesterday when they shut out San Juan North Secondary 5-0 at Bourg Mulatresse.

For the Warren Street school, that result carried the “Green Machine” to an insurmountable 29 points, an outcome that ensures they have dethroned defending champions Arima North Secondary. They have one match left.

Ricardo John netted twice for ‘Gustine, and Triston Hodge, Aikim Andrews and Jesse Joseph added one goal each to celebrate the title, and a chance at their first national league win since 2010.

El Dorado West Secondary, with two matches in hand, are on 20 points after they were held to a goal less draw with Arima North.

In the North, St Mary’s College made their task of dethroning the “Tigers” of St Anthony’s College a bit more difficult after they dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with Queen’s Royal College at St Clair. They still lead the standings with 26 points, but both East Mucurapo Secondary and St Anthony’s now have a chance of overhauling them.

East Mucurapo edged Diego Martin North 1-0 on a late Akeem Roach goal, while St Anthony’s mauled Malick Secondary 6-0. East Mucurapo can win outright if they win their last two matches, including a match against the Tigers.

If the Westmoorings team win their last two, they still need St Mary’s to drop points in their final fixture.

Carapichaima East Secondary (Central) and Speyside Secondary (Tobago) are both on the verge of titles, as are Presentation College San Fernando (South).

“Pres” lost yesterday after going ahead 2-1, and still need a point to take the title. “Caps” and Speyside each need a draw in their respective zones to celebrate victory, but both have a sizeable lead on goal difference and should close things out with ease.
