SANTOS FC and Trincity Nationals got their campaigns off to positive starts in Group B of the Eddie Hart Football League (EHFL) Big Eight round-robin competition at Eddie Hart Savannah (EHS) in Tacarigua.

On Sunday night, Trinicity Nationals squeezed out a 1-0 win over Overcome Bulls, while Santos rallied to beat 2009 champions MAASH 2-1 last Thursday night.

Shandell Samuels' glancing header in the dying moments of a competitive encounter was enough to give Trincity all three points at the death.

Kerry Harris netted a late brace to lift Santos FC to their come-from-behind triumph over MAASH International.

The speedy striker leveled the game with his first item from the penalty spot with less than 15 minutes left, after David John's glancing header put previously unbeaten MAASH ahead early in the second period, following a goalless first-half.

Harris got his second and the game winner when he capitalised on a defensive blunder to place his low right-footer past an advancing Barry Villarreal in goal for MAASH, who missed a first half -half penalty, before they scored the opening goal.

In Group One, Pacemakers started their Big Eight outing with a hard-fought 1-0 win over ES Madrid on Saturday.

In another game contested in the same group, Tunapuna Slappers had to settle for a share of the points in a 1-1 tie with their plucky neighbours Macoya FC outfit, who are making their debut in the EHFL.

Brent Antonie handed the lead to Slappers in the all-Tunapuna affair when he beat the Macoya custodian from close up.  Later on, Macoya' s goalkeeper confidently stepped up and converted a penalty to secure a well-deserved point for his team.

The first two finishers in each group will advance to the semi-finals with a chance of securing the $30,000 first prize. Runners-up will get $12,000, while the third club will take home $7,000 and fourth-place $5,000.

The fifth to eight-place teams will all receive $3,000 each.
