Marabella champions K Brands will meet their Fyzabad counterparts Boca Juniors when the 2010 Southwest Super 5 Community Football League kicks off at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre tomorrow at 6 pm.This year the tournament is sponsored by Petrotrin, National Gas Company (NGC) and National Energy Corporation (NEC) as part of an effort to build sport within neighbouring communities.

The communities involved are Marabella, Fyzabad, Point Fortin, La Brea and Palo Seco and the tournament features the top football teams from each community.The tournament shifts to La Brea on Sunday with the big clash between Cap-de-Ville United of Point Fortin and the champions of La Brea, New Creations.

Next Wednesday, the 2009 Southwest Community football champions Los Bajos United will meet the winners of the Marabella/Fyzabad game at the Petrotrin Velodrome at 6.30 pm. The Grand Final is scheduled for December 5 at a venue to be announced. First prize for the Southwest Super 5 is $8,000 while the runners-up will receive $5,000.

Plans are also underway for the winners of the Southwest Super 5 Community Football tournament to play an exhibition game against the champions in Mayaro. Secretary of the Tournament and former national footballer Larry Joseph said that “the main purpose of this tournament is to bring the communities in the South closer together and to showcase the talent of the footballers in the region.“Last year we had a great response from the communities and we expect even more this year.”
