Although surrendering a two-goal first-half lead to main contenders Penal Rock Road on Saturday, Siparia Spurs hanged on to win back-to-back titles by the narrowest of margins in the Petrotrin Super League of the Southern Football Association.

Needing to win the match outright by two clear goals, Penal Rock Road put up a spirited second-half display to cancel out the two early goals by Spurs but came up short, winning the match 3-2. Both teams finished with 45 points from its 20-match campaign but Spurs got the verdict as a result of a better goal difference.

Len Mejias and Chris Collins gave Spurs a 2-0 lead at the interval only for Julien John, Jessie Edwards and Irvin Williams to score a goal apiece to secure the close victory for Penal Rock Road.

Spurs, coached by Vernan Dimsoy and captained by Kevon Bascombe, will be chasing another title on Saturday when it comes up against Diamond United in the League Cup final at Skinner Park, San Fernando, from 3.30 pm.

Spurs’ youth teams have also enjoyed a deal of success, with its Under-16 squad winning the South Zone, the Under-18 side copping the Point Fortin League and the Under-14 and Under-12 teams finishing second and third in the South League.

Soldado All Stars also copped the Roy Jagroopsingh Second Division crown on goal difference, edging Marabella CC, after both teams were deadlocked on 33 points at the end of the14-round tournament.
