Duo Kellon James and Omarley James slotted in goals for Whim Anglican, to see the Tobago boys champion, advance to the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic Primary School Football League yesterday at Shaw Park, Tobago.
Whim Anglican was one of three Tobago teams, moving on to the next round after a 2-1 victory over Sangre Grande SDA. Also registering victories were the zonal girls winner and runner-up, Montgomery Government and Mason Hall, respectively.
Kellon, who was the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP) of the Goderick Alfred Tobago Primary School Football Cup which his team won last month, opened the scoring in the 51st minute. His teammate Omarley (54th) followed up three minutes with the second goal.
Jade Allman netted the lone item for Sangre Grande in the 61st minute. Whim Anglican will now look to get past Tunapuna Boys RC in the quarterfinal tomorrow at the Arima Velodrome.
In the Girls’ Division, Montgomery led by four goals from Aliyah Charles defeated Palo Seco Government, 5-2. Charles wasted no time in finding the net, putting in her first item in the first minute. Her teammate Aliah Ashby stepped up in the fifth, to give her team a 2-0 lead.
Charles went on to score in the 16th, 24th and 40th minute, to pilot her team to the next round to meet Dinsley Trincity Government. Scoring for Palo Seco, Shenelle Garcia (30th) and Felicia Salazar (36th).
At the Arima Velodrome, Jamelia Roberts and Latoyah Assana’s goals helped Mason Hall secure a 2-0 win over San Fernando Methodist. The winner will clash with Vos Government.
La Brea RC with goals from Akinola Gregory (37th) and Kester Edmund (54th) beat Tobago’s second place boy’s team, Bon Accord Government, 2-1. Che Richards scored for Bon Accord in the 45th minute.
La Brea meets Santa Flora Government tomorrow. The competition will be played at venues around the country.
