The Republic of Ireland international has failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Liverpool following his 20million move from Spurs last summer. Keane was left out of the Reds squad for Sunday's 2-0 victory over Chelsea amid growing speculation of a return to the north London club. After the game, Reds boss Rafael Benitez suggested the striker was highly likely to remain at Anfield as he was an important part of his squad. However, reports claim Spurs have seen a bid for their former captain accepted by the Merseyside club and that Keane is on his way to the capital to discuss terms. Liverpool are thought to have been interested in signing Spurs winger Aaron Lennon as part of any transfer. But the deal for Keane is believed to be cash only and involve no others players swapping clubs. The 28-year-old has scored seven goals in 28 appearances since swapping White Hart Lane for Anfield back in August.

Portsmouth have strengthened their squad with the signing of Greece striker Theofanis Gekas on loan from German club Bayer Leverkusen. The 28-year-old moves to Fratton Park until the end of the season, with the option of a permanent deal if he impresses. Gekas was the top-scorer in the Bundesliga in the 2006-07 season, scoring 21 times in 31 games for Bochum. That form earned him a move to Leverkusen, but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot, despite netting 15 goals in 53 appearances - half of which have come as a substitute. Pompey boss Tony Adams told the club's official website: "His goalscoring record is fantastic and he's always looking to score goals. He plays for the Greek national team and recently came on against Italy and scored. A couple of years ago he was the highest scorer in the Bundesliga. The Bundesliga is a fantastic league, so that's not an easy feat. He's a player that I think can come in and do really well straight away. He's certainly hungry to do well and hopefully he can hit the ground running."
