Some nice results early on in the season. Michelle's 200m has suffered ever since she was injured in Carifta 08 before that she used to run sub 24 but now... I hope whoever is coaching can work her into good shape. I'm not sure how the conditions were but 11.41 with a strong tailwind behind her is what she could have ran at 15 possibly even 14 I hope she didn't get injured again.
-
If you cant run a WORLD CLASS 200 forget seeing a podium in the 100. Those days are over. Men and women.
Jeter, VCB, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Those are the last 2 Oly/World champs. What do they have in common?
Gay, Blake, Bolt.....see a pattern?
You get my point.....
-
Yup! she needs to step up in the 200. Imagine if she did.... she's a 11.2 100m and if she manage to get in the 22 range she'd prob be close to 11 possibly below.
-
One last thing i actually think John Smith would do wonders with MLA... if not John then you Ato would be my top pick to get her to where she needs to(can) be.

A good set of results!!! Good to see Semoy back- also good to see Janeil Bellille back in sub 56 form after her injuries it would be great to have her and Josanne in the hurdles come Olympics.
I would love to see the race with MLA anchoring that relay- (looking for her to improve her 200 now, she's training with BK who is a very good 200m runner so I'm hoping to see an improvement).
Wow at LSU running sub 43 this early in the season...

The commentators are saying that she was on anchor and so do the results, but my eye says that she was on 3rd leg. That person running on anchor looks and runs nothing like MLA, but 3rd surely does to me.

Yeah that's definitely her on 3rd against LaShaunte'a Moore on 3rd aswell.

Janeil looked pretty good. It is a pity we can't have a women 4x400 team for London.
-
Janeil looked pretty good. It is a pity we can't have a women 4x400 team for London.
55.91 is a great time at the beginning of the season. If she continues to improve, she could probably go low or sub 55 by Nationals.
Mcknight also improved by a second.
Possible 4x400 team:
Mcknight,
Bellille,
Lucas
Selvon? I would rather see her in the 4x100.... Still about 2 athletes short of a good team.
-
KAB does a decent 4x400 leg but if she decides to do the 200 then that would be a hefty task.
-
Don't think a women's 4x400m is going to happen.
For one, the women's 4x100m finals is the event just before the women's 4x400m round 1/semi-finals on August 10th.
Assuming that T&T will be in the 4x100m final, it will be extremely difficult for Kai Selvon or any other overlapping member of that relay team to recover physically or mentally for a race right after.
Given that Kai has the fastest split on paper (having run 50 point in last year's NCAA final before being caught by Jessica Beard running 49 point), fielding a relay team with just 3x400m hurdlers, no real flat 400m athlete (to-date), and hoping for a short sprinter to fill in, is a stretch in my opinion.
-
Is this the year when Brung, is finally going to bring it?
Is this the year we will see potential fulfilled?
Or are we going to be full of dashed hopes and dreams?
Waiting...... :waiting: patiently.

I hand timed her first leg on 3 different occasions and got her on average at 51.0. So closer to 51.3 for electronic timing. That is a very good time for KAB and would have been the fastest in the world right now, if it was an open race. Her fall training had to have went very well. Can't wait to see her open up individually.

Yes indeed-my dream is for her to dip under 23 seconds! Once she does that I think she'll be ready to consistently run 11.0x/11.1x. Possibly even a one off sub 11.
I see she's entered for the Mt Sac relays, is she still training in Texas? I looking forward to what Richard is guna do in that 200.

Must say some decent results for the beginning of the season. If results continue to be on the up, there can be a good number of athletes going to London. I hope this government provides the necessary financial support and the ttnaaa makes the right decisions for the athletic team at the Olympics.
I agree anything sub 52 is madness for a 100/200 sprinter. Can anyone confirm if KAB will be doing the 200m in London as well?
Now that Kai and KAB has run the 4x400, Do you think a womens 4x400 team for London is possible? Still think it will be hard for Kai to do 3 events. And I doubt that KAB will want to run that as well. But when you really look at it, the 4x400 wont start until a day or two after the 4x100. If Kai is available, then why not. Maybe I could be wrong. Still something realistic.
-
Guys, I would love to see a ladies 4x4 team but is too much for them. How unfortunate. I must say congrats to Annie Alexander. She has been consistent in winning at this level. But she has to come up real big against the Cuban, the NZ and the Eastern Euros. I would love for a miracle in London.

Magnolia Howell could be one fill a 4x4 spot She ran 52.62 split at the CAC games last year...

Good result by Lendore. That time qualifies as a B standard for the Olympics.
Must say, at the rate Lendore is going, I will not be surprised if he runs an A standard or even a 44.9s by the end of the season. Based on the results he did not have to push it towards the end of the race. If he did, he probably would have achieved the A standard. He certainly has made his case for the 4x400 relay. If no one betters his time, him and Quow will be representing in the 400m.

Ok judging by this and no video I can only think that something didn't go to plan in is race or he just had an off day- I know he's in good hands with J. Smith... His 60m indoors told me enough- running past two of the top 60m sprinters for the season. So I know he's got more in store.

Great time I hope he can hold out for the Olympics after his long season. He'll definitely be a must for the 4x400m. I'm hoping Lalonde Gordon can step up also.

Mikel Thomas made the 'A' standard in the 110m hurdles- 13.48s and Jamal James running quite well too.

Thomas, James enjoying gains on Road to London
By Kwame Laurence kwame.laurence@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: Apr 18, 2012 at 10:52 PM ECT
For any athlete, improvement is always a goal. And in an Olympic year, it is even more gratifying to better a personal best.
Among the Trinidad and Tobago athletes who have been enjoying gains in 2012 are sprint hurdler Mikel Thomas and half-miler Jamaal James. Both are campaigning in the United States.
At the start of the year, Thomas had a personal best (pb) of 13.62 seconds in the men's 110 metres hurdles, a clocking he produced in the second round at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing, China. On the last weekend in March, Thomas improved to 13.48, the impressive run earning him victory in race one and second spot overall in the Texas Relays invitational men's 110m hurdles.
Thomas is fourth on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 2012 performance list, behind Americans David Oliver (13.30), Ronnie Ash (13.42) and Texas Relays winner Chris Thomas (13.45).
More importantly, though, Mikel Thomas' 13.48 seconds clocking bettered the 13.52 Olympic A qualifying standard.
Like Thomas, James is eyeing the London Olympics. The B standard in his pet event, the 800m, is one minute, 46.30 seconds, while his pb is 1:47.00, a clocking he produced back in 2007.
James has not approached his pb since, but showed signs of returning to his best form in February this year when he clocked an indoor best 1:47.66--the second fastest time of his career.
James followed up with a 1500m pb at the Sam Howell Invitation meet, in New Jersey, two Fridays ago. The T&T athlete finished 11th in 3:49.00.

Trini 1 Richard has not run an open race for the year. That post was made in error by JusBless. That race happened last year.
Mt.Sac this Saturday should see him open up over 200m.

Those 200's seem to be helping Michelle's 100 times. So let's hope she continues them- one good thing is she doesn't seem to be phased by her competition she just runs her race. Great stuff- I'm very much pleased.
I'm hoping Semoy and Kai can get back into their best shapes again for the relay. Today they ran 11.21 and 11.42 respectively. Semoy's was done with a 2.9 following wind. Last season she would have had a sub 11 time with that but this season that's not the case.... Her team mate Kimberlyn Duncan and her were running around the same times over the 100 last year but Semoy had her beat (but Kimberlyn owned the 200). Kimberlyn ran 11.05 at the same meet as Semoy but with at legal 1.0 wind at her back(in a diff. heat)..... Kai injured herself at the NCAA indoors and hasn't run a 100 since so I feel she'll come around. Just a bit disappointed cuz I know where Semoy could have been and she would have probably been our second sub 11 runner now if not for the ban etc.
-
I must say I expected a way better run than this from Richard. Hopefully there is better things to come and soon, because the people who he is expected to possibly compete for a medal with have already shown good form, granted its still early in the season. Just not the kind of time I expected to see from an athlete who has said he intends to take the deuce more seriously this season.

He needs to start weight training...
-
Richard had a solid first 100. He just doesnt have that speed endurance yet with more 200's I think he'll improve but I don't think he'll be a factor in the 200 this season but it will help with the 100. Think he will want to go sub 20 though.
Michelle got run down in that 4x1 by Allyson Felix you could see the difference between Allyson's long strides and smooth technique compared to Michelle's much more staggered/fighter running style hehe. I'm always guns say it Michelle needs help with the technique.
Marc ran a great time well done definitely think he'll be going under 100.

so how did kelly do .... in her opener

She didn't run. There were delays due to bad weather so a lot of pro runners left it seemed- VCb and Shalonda Solomon didn't run either. Guessing her next run is next month unless she does relay at Penn's next week.

Trinity Cross, seems like you havent changed. Truetrini my arse. New name... same sh*t talk. Although, your comment is not a direct knock...your message is clear. Why dont you leave DB. AA ran a 10.9x over the weekend. And you have nothing to say about that? I think you have something personal with DB.
This is the difference between the Trini and JA followers. JA fans dont come out and knock their athletes when they are facing adversity. Again...Truetrini my arse!

Wow it is amazing how your mind is so one sided , you will swear he was the only athlete that performed badly that weekend , If you had criticized all the athletes that had a bad result then your post would make sense , but All your posts and criticism is aimed at one individual over and over again. I thought by now you would of gained a sense of maturity but I guess this is just your way. The fact is right now we have a set of underperforming athletes who I agree need criticism but it is unfair that you target one athlete and leave the others unscathed. I have no problem with you giving your opinion but try to make it not based on one individual because even though your intention might be good , posters view you as being crazy and being on a personal vendetta. Can we please have some responisible posting if you so in love with DB, hear what start a tread or a blog and you can write all you want on that , explore your creativity and do whatever that fits your fansies.

K back to actual results... both 4x1 teams fourth, 39.03 for men and 44.07 for the women. I haven't seen the men's yet but looking at the women I can say it will be a stronger team (provided everyone is healthy) come London because we will have KAB. She makes a lot of difference on 2nd against Felix. She might not gain on her but there's no gap increase.
Kai ran a solid 1st leg but she seemed like she hurt something hope everything is ok
Michelle did a good job on second against Kerron Stewart- Allyson Felix was gone
I think Ayanna may have been better on 3rd than Reyare but she did what she could and got the stick to Semoy.
Semoy was overworked this weekend so I didn't expect her to run her best. She ran 4x1 and 4x2 for LSU too.
-
I will not comment on the men races, I am just hoping that it is just rustiness from our athlete. Because I expected better . Bledman slip at the start , not smooth baton passing , Marc Burns had a good leg , EC was ordinary and expected better from RT anchor but I could be wrong , it could be he ran a very good leg ,it is just that I did not expect oshane bailey from jamaica to be that quick but every year some new force pops up for jamaica probably this is oshane bailey year

Just some thoughts....
That was not a good run by T&T. Its a good thing that it is early. Lots of preparation to do. We need to be running below 38.5 consistently. France has a strong squad that will vie for a medal. If we are to run like that in the Olympics... That will give us about a 5 or 6 place finish. Based on current results, that relay team is our A team. I guess nationals will determine the final relay team.
-
Must say the 4x400 mens team looked pretty decent. Would not say that it is our A team. But there are 3 more guys (Quow, Lendore and Hewitt) that can be easily switched. I think once the team is finalized, we have a realistic chance of placing at the Olympics.
I think the mens 400m race at Nationals will be the race to watch this year.

I see us making the finals but placing in the top 3 will be tough. We have the US who basically have the gold medal on lockdown, the battle for silver and bronze will be among Bahamas, Belgium and Russia. I also expect Great Britain to be a contender for a medal at home and they did well last time (4th place). I see us battling with the likes of Jamaica, Poland and Australia for 6th place.
-
Mark get ketch on the first leg but Emmanuel get eat up on the curve jeezzz !!
-
I am really hoping RT is yet to get into good shape, and that he had some setback.
Thus far I am not seeing gains similar to Walter Dix's since joining HSI.
The first 200m at Mt. SAC...well let's not go there, and to be battling against Oshane Bailey???
For a man who ran multiple meets in the busy collegiate schedule in 2008 and still ran 20.18 then, progress so far does not look promising given that it is already late April.
Hope I am dead wrong.

Thanks Soca and after watching the men's ditto STMB. Conditions were'nt good at all but London maybe similar just a bit warmer. So that was good practice.
The times will drop as each individual gets stronger/ faster.
-
No comment from truetrini aka trinity cross, For someone so vocal we hear no comments about our performance at Penn Relay , hmmm if DB ran we would of gotten a response from him already
-
Unfortunately I do have to echo STMB's sentiments regarding Richard. Instead of an injury setback, I was more leaning to the possibility that he is still under a very heavy training load in comparison to Dix, as he has just looked very flat. We have to remember that even though Dix is already flying, he had/has less to work on than Richard. The issues of speed endurance and general strength were never a concern for Dix. Technical issues is their only mutual problem. Not to mention Dix has to be in peak shape for his trials in 8 weeks time, Richard does not have that concern or has it to a lesser degree.
Richard has Darvis Patton, Nesta Carter, Frater and Bolt for opponents this coming Saturday in Jamaica, so lets see what happens in the first real meet of the season.

Well REC thanks for the clarification, but what else was I left to assume. I was not one of the posters to engage TT in the latest rounds of talk about Brown and nowhere in my post did I make mention of him(TT), so I am a bit confused as to how VB could quote my post when mentioning the passing of TT's brother. ???
Anyways my condolences to you TrueTrini and the rest of your family. Sorry for your loss.

Good result for Rondell. Seems like Churandy just nipped him. 20.42 to start off the season is a good sign.
-
This seems to be a very good start for him..........this is normally his peak range (20.5x), so i hope that with this start that he would consistently get down to the 20.2x range

I agree anything sub 52 is madness for a 100/200 sprinter. Can anyone confirm if KAB will be doing the 200m in London as well?
-
Re: the quote immediately above...Kelly is still not sure. She says she'll have to see how her season goes, but the answer wasn't a definite 'No". Her training is going well though, and she says she feels very very good after last night's run at the JA Invitational.

INTERESTING - Has curve running become an issue for RT?
DWAIN Chambers will make his first British outdoor appearance of the season at next week's Powerade Great CityGames in Manchester.
Chambers was freed to compete at London 2012, pending qualification, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled his lifetime Olympic ban, imposed by the British Olympic Association, contravened the World Anti-Doping Agency's code.
Since returning to the sport, the former world indoor champion has been having to scratch out a living at minor events, with many leading promoters refusing to invite them to their meetings.
However, he will line-up against American Walter Dix, last year's IAAF World Championships 100 metres and 200m silver medallist, Trinidad's Richard Thompson, the 2008 Olympic 100m runner-up, and fellow Briton Marlon Devonish in Manchester.
Olympic champion Usain Bolt ran a world best 14.35 sec over the rarely ran 150m straight distance three years ago.
Dix believes he is in shape to attack the USA record of 14.51 sec that Tyson Gay achieved in Manchester a year ago while, Chambers, currently training in Jamaica, could challenge the British best performance of 14.87 sec.

Darrel clearly is not in shape as evidenced by his 22+ 200m in Florida last month. Thes 10.4s and 10.5s he's running cannot surprise anyone if he can't break 22 over 200m. Conditioning is waaay off. Let's see how much he can improve by before Trials
-
Ok let me be serious here for a minute.
Darrel's real problem has always been those around him, aka his father.
His father made it seem like his son is the second coming, wanted no advice from anyone, felt everyone who gave constructive criticism was jealous and wanted somehow to keep his son down!

Ditto the W4x1. With three quarters of the team already having a collective 0.17s individual improvement of the flat 100m and a PB likely to come from KAB, they can seriously entertain the thought of running sub-42.2
-
Wowzers!!! 45.13.... and only a freshman. Hope he finishes his degree first, great time and looks like he can go sub 45 by NCAA's. The men's 400n is looking great this year! I know he may not do well in the individual 400 after this long college season so I'm looking for him to do well in the relay. I hope Lalonde Gordon can get back into form because he is a great addition to the team.
I've been waiting for Wayne to produce and he's finally come through. Hope he can keep improving!

Wait how do you know the man prick big hmmm, rather interesting , I was starting to give you the benefit of the doubt and all of a sudden your true colors come out again. The only contribution you seem to want to add is negative connotations about DB. I am sorry he was not into you but that is his choice get over it and stop acting like a lovesick puppy. You really need some help and really I aint got no more time to waste. Sometimes in life you have to leave a person in the ignorance and just pity them.

Once Brown gets jusbless of he jock strap he will run a 100th faster. ;)
It not easy running a sprint race with two big pricks yuh know!
I was talking abiut you and he father...but I see your obsession with toti...so carry on
-
Ok guys....
Ayanna Alexander jumped 14.14m- really proud of her for getting over 14m and now all she needs is some consistency but I got what I wanted and that was to see her jump over 14 because she's been so near for the past few years.
-
Excellent jump for her, the Olympic standard is 14.10!!
-
This is going to be the largest track & field team TT sends to London...Providing that all the right decisions are made.
-
I pray they are! Not only the largest but the vest in terms of quality- potential finalists/medalists.

One race at the time , we keep the faith that you will be ready to fire when it counts ,

Unfortunately RT had an injury setback with his hip/groin since the end of March and has been trying to regain fitness. It has acted up again and he will therefore forego the Manchester meet to seek treatment back home.

Well that sucks to hear. Even though a part of me wonders how much did it really heal the first time considering that he had looked average at best on every relay and open race he has participated in so far. Hope he gets good treatment this time and if needs be don't worry to race until Nationals to allow sufficient time for recovery and to regain some of the training time that will/has been lost.

Nice times from the ladies. I hope to see im ;Dprovement when Sparkle Mcknight and Janeil Bellille move to their Div 1 colleges. Great to see Reyare Thomas run that time she can only get better I see low 11.2's/high 11.1's by national camps adding a bit more depth to the ladies sprints.

Very encouraging results place wise.
Hopefully they can reproduce or better those times at this year's trials/champs.
Lucas and Bellile should push each other to respective season bests and Reyare Thomas will bolster the 4x100m ranks at least for the rounds or in case of injuries. Will be an interesting battle between her and MLA in the 100m and KS and SH in the 200m

Right now Lucas and Bellile need to focus on getting the A standard. Well at least one of them. The Nationals might not be competitive enough to push them towards the A standard.

I am pleased with how Callendar and Bledman are progressing but I am slightly worried about Burns and Thompson at this point but have faith that they will both step up and be back to their fastest by national trials.
Also we need at least two fast back up sprinters for our 4 x 100m relay squad in case of injury and such so I am speculating as to who those two extra male sprinters will be.
So far Brown is not looking good at all and I am not sure if Rondell or one of our other 200m guys can step up speed wise for the 5th and 6th spots on our 4 x 100m relay squad.
What you guys think?
-
I think the key to an Olympic 4x100m medal at this point is flawless relay passing. I do not think we are going to have anyone running 9.8x come the Olympics, maybe one or more in the 9.9s.
With all the mishaps that can befall teams with excessive talent including Jamaica or the USA, teams like St. Kitts, Japan, Australia, South Africa, France, UK can easily slot in for any of the 3 medals because they understand that they cannot rely on winning a medal with just speed, and tend to invest the time and money to run their teams in different combinations, several times before championships moreso than the "big name" teams.
We need to come to that realization real quick if we want "A" medal on the men's side because though we might reach the finals of the 100, 200, 400, 110H, 400H, prospects of medalling aren't looking very strong at the moment (let's see how the trials turn out). However both the men's 4x100m and 4x400m teams as units look medal-worthy on paper, short of the investment above.
I do not think we have a worthy 6th man in the 4x100m. Putting Morain or even Brown based on results to-date will put our chances of advancing to the semis or final at risk. However adding just Sorillo to the mix makes experimenting with combinations a little less complicated than say for the US or Jamaica with their depth of talent.
-
By the way, there were a few solid performances by T&T athletes at the Quantum Games. Following are excerpts from today's Express:
1. Keshorn Walcott erased a 16-year-old national record from the books. The 19-year-old Trinidad and Tobago athlete produced a huge 78.94 metres replacing Kirt Thompson in the record books in the process. Walcott was just 56 centimetres short of the 79.50m Olympic B standard.
2. Though Ayanna Alexander was the only competitor in the women's triple jump, she was not short on motivation. The T&T athlete disturbed the sand at 14.15m—a new national record.
3. Machel Cedenio was in a race of his own in the boys' under-20 400m, the T&T athlete completing his one lap of the track in a personal best 46.73 seconds.
4. Ronnie Ash emerged victorious in the men's 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 13.26 seconds. T&T's Mikel Thomas earned silver in 13.31.
-
Some great results!
MLA came 3rd in the 100. Had a poor start and technique but still managed 11.24...If she attends to those things she is running 11.0x easy. The video is available on YouTube. I can't post it because I'm on my phone but it's under, '100 races at Quantum Games 2012'.

Yeah. Its unfortunate that things are not working out in DB's favor right now. He will be running in some small meets before Nationals. Hope things improve for him soon... I think he will show up for Nationals.

The incredible thing about that race is that he basically ran the whole leg in lane two and then went to lane three on the straight and then back to lane one so that is about 10- 20m extra being run

Well, well what a run. Little curious as to why he did not run the final. Hope they just pulled him as a precaution after such a big PR, but either way this result just increases our chances of putting a man in the 100m final in London and breaking our 4x1 record.

Hoping the rest of the guys can draw inspiration from KB's performance! Looks like we have a new number 1. I hope he can just get better and better! Wishing Richard a speedy and full recovery. If only he was 100% we would have def broken our record. If he does return to good form he can be in sub 10 shape and ready to do damage.
Semoy seems to be rounding into better form than she was in before her ban. If all is well she should be at 11 flat/low 11.0x by trials if not sooner. I do believe that the ladies will run at least 42.2 if not quicker.

You would think that this would have been on the main page on the iaaf site. If Bledman was American or Jamaican, this 9.89 would have been featured on the main page of the iaaf site.
-
I just hope it was not a "clermont" run or they used the clock at the crawford stadium. If everything is legit, well done KB. Hopefully RT can step up now.
-
True that, Gawd on Pitch, the performances of all 4 of the competitors faster than KB (Usain, Yohan, Justin and Asafa) were heralded by "front-page" splashes on papers and websites. Not even today's local T&T paper features it, and he hasn't gotten a "kkkkhnnn" from any major track and field websites. I just hope he uses this slight as major motivation to prove a point in upcoming meets.
-
That lil 18/19 year old fella from the DR Luguelin Santos just drop a 44.45 in Hengelo
-
Yeah he is 18 still and I was warned he was coming. He has arrived.
He could run 44 really low this year because I still don't think he knows the event fully. Kirani-ish.
As for Bledman, the IAAF in this case gets a bligh because this was at a HIGH SCHOOL meet, so not exactly on their radar. Below pros they aren't exaclty plugged in.
The other perfs by Gatlin, Blake et al came at their (IAAF) meetings which would obviously be immediately picked up by them. To be honest, people in the industry do not look to iaaf.org for results and news. Track and Field News is what most track heads bookmark for results, news and headlines.
As Thompson learned last year, the pressure of this 9.89 for Bledman now is that you have to do it again....when it counts.
And yes Kwame fell asleep on this one (again this meet if I wasn't on twitter I probably would not even know it was being run)
The biggest TnF news of the weekend though, to me, is this:
http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/track-and-xc/post/_/id/3643/golden-south-shocker-tyreek-hill-steals-the-show-with-20-14-200-2-all-time
not Bledman's 9.89, not even "Babes of Track and Field" star Jessica Ennis' new UK heptathlon record compares to a high school kid running 20.14
BTW that would make him the 2nd fastest Trini ever at the distance I believe.
Also, my "find" from last year who I picked to make the USA team LAST YEAR (she is like a USA Marie-Jo Perec) Kimberlyn Duncan of LSU ran 22.22, .7 ahead of 2nd place at NCAA Regionals. This is the 2nd fastest collegiate time ever run and second only to Dawn Sowell's 22.04 CR set a high altitude a long time ago. What will she run when she has some competition. oh BTW, 22.22 was the time that VCB ran to win worlds last year (albeit into a headwind)

Too many Trinis run PB's at the national stadium never to reproduce those time anywhere after. Something stinks.
I am Happy for Bledman, I hope he goes from strength to strength.
-
So what about those who do not run PBs in Trinidad but run them elsewhere, like Jehue for instance.
The track isn't short, and if the timing system was off, then you'd see PBs in the 200m, 400m and 400m H, events "short" enough where you'd see the difference.
What about the visiting athletes from the US and Caribbean who do not run PBs in Trinidad?
Could it just be that T&T athletes run well on their home turf? Sounds believable to me.

Nice to see Moriba Morain running that time- he'll be a great addition to that 100 final at the national champs and possibly the relay pool, if not now then in the future.
MLA cutting almost half a second off her pb and I'm sure if she continues she'll be running sub 23 this year which is a good sign for her 100. She's got good top end speed but her start in the 100 still needs tweaking.
Lalonde has potential as he showed earlier in the year just needs to find his form.
-

This is a first, finally there is something I can agree with you about.

OK not arguing with anybody, just trying to be objective and analytical, here.
So the situation is that we have primarily 100m and 200m PBs that seem suspect to some i.e. RT, MB, DB (100m) and RS, AA (200m).
However the likes of KB and KAB have also run fast 100s in T&T and run even faster outside of T&T (and not just at Clermont).
In addition we have several meets with local and international men and women athletes who run times less than their PBs. All of the suspect times seem to impact men only - strange.
So what is the issue? Here IMO are some contributing factors in order of most likely to least:
1. Faulty wind gauge allowing wind-aided times as legal
2. Faulty block sensors allowing false starts/flyers without recalls
3. Faulty starting system wherever it is plugged into blocks at the 100m and 200m stations
4. An overlooked glitch in the timing system that occurs occasionally and requires calibration
5. Officials not able to operate the timing system properly
6. Collusion by athletes and officials to allow more athletes to reach IAAF standards
7. The track is too short
When the above-mentioned athletes ran their 100m PBs they were in very competitive races amongst local, elite athletes in a warm, home environment, for bragging rights, without a Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell, or Usain Bolt. So why wasn't a PB plausible?
-
Here is something that is huge but gets little attention from us and of course the global track & field world....
Another addition to London.

Walcott achieves Olympic standard
...wins in Cuba with 80.11 metres monster throw
By Kwame Laurence kwame.laurence@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: May 28, 2012 at 11:57 PM ECT
Story Updated: May 28, 2012 at 11:57 PM ECT
Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott went to the top of the all-time western hemisphere junior (under-20) javelin performance list when he hurled the spear 80.11 metres, at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) centennial anniversary meet, in Havana, Cuba, on Sunday.
Walcott's monster throw was also an Olympic qualifier, bettering the 79.50 metres B standard.
Two Saturdays ago, 19-year-old Walcott threw 78.94m at the Quantum Classic here in Trinidad to add the national senior and North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) junior records to his national junior and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) junior records.
On Sunday, the four-time Carifta Games gold medallist improved on his four records, moving into the number one spot on the all-time hemispherical under-20 list in the process. He replaced Argentina's Braian Toledo (79.73m).
Walcott, currently the top junior in the world this year, is now 15th on the all-time global under-20 list.
Walcott and Toledo will square off at the July 10-15 World Junior Championships, in Barcelona, Spain.
On Sunday, Walcott stamped his class on the competition with a 75.73m opening round effort. And then, in round two, he produced the record-breaking 80.11m effort. Walcott fouled in the third round, threw 71.92m in the fourth, and then passed in rounds five and six.
Walcott struck gold in the event, beating Colombians Dayron Marquez (78.00m), Arley Ibarguen (74.22m) and Noraldo Palacios (71.75m) into second, third and fourth, respectively. Cuba's Michel Miranda (70.05m) finished fifth.
Another T&T field athlete, Quincy Wilson, copped fourth spot in the men's discus with a 56.33m throw.
Jorge Fernandez emerged victorious with a 61.97m effort, forcing fellow Cuban Yunio Lastre (60.19m) to settle for silver. Bronze went to Mexico's Mario Cota (57.58m), while fifth spot was copped by another Cuban, Randy Noa (55.41m).
Wilson threw 51.90m in round one, fouled twice, produced a 55.03m effort in the fourth round, and then landed the implement 56.33m in round five. He closed off his campaign with a 55.15m throw.
At the IAAF World Challenge meet, in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday, T&T's Lalonde Gordon finished fifth in the men's 200m event in a wind-assisted 20.81 seconds.
Morocco's Aziz Ouhadi clocked 20.50 to grab gold, ahead of France's David Alerte (20.67), Egypt's Amr Ibrahim Mostafa Seoud (20.72) and South Africa's Simon Magakwe (20.77). Briton Marlon Devonish was sixth in 21 seconds flat.
Each meet for the year has produced a new record from KW. Of course, this is another accomplishment from a Trini that is overlooked by the global reporters of T&F. We would hear more about Mr Walcott if he was American or Jamaican.
And yes it is a new national record for TT.
Just some FYI... 3 national records for the month of May.
Javelin Throw- Keshorn Walcott - 80.11
110 hurdles - Wayne Davis- 13.37
200m - Semoy Hackett- 22.55
I hope we can carry this momentum through to the Olympics.

Well after looking back at today's meet in Eugene, of the six principle athletes(Dix, Jeter, RT, Ndure, J. Richardson and Okabare) in the HSI camp, only the last two performed as expected today. Dix got injured, but did not look ready to run anything better than 10 flat and RT, Jeter and Ndure all performed well below their capabilities. So I hope that they are under some ridiculous training loads, and more specifically Richard.

If RT is not under any training loads I think it's better for him to rest up or get the right help/advice for his injury because he may be aggravating it rather than allowing it to improve.

This is some very good news. Firstly it increases our chances of putting a man in the 400m final in London, especially if one or more of them can start running in the 44.50-44.99 range. This also bodes well for our 4x400m team. I believe this year, we have the depth to take down our NR and possibly go under 3:00.
-
My mistake. I thought that Gordon's 45.33 was A standard. It is a B though. Still good improvement.
There are about 3 more runners that are capable of running B standard range for the 400m. Next week Zwede is running. Lets see if he gets a B or even A standard. If so, this 400m will become one of the most competitive events.
Aleesha Barber got a B standard for the 100mh. As time goes on, our track and field team for London is getting bigger. I hope this continues.
-
With Quow, Lendore and Gordon running the way they are I think we now have an outside shot at a 4x400m Medal.
I'm worried about RT and excited about Bledman but Nationals will tell us all we need to know. Thank God I'll be there to see it ;D

Jehue just had a great rebound performance in Oslo just now.
Recorded a SB of 48.78 and in the process beat the 2011 World Champion Dai Greene. Ran the first 300m aggressively and was able to maintain fairly well down the stretch. That will improve as the season goes on.

Nice buildup so far! However, something is definitely the matter with Richard Thompson.
-
So I can see that he had a change in his approach, as he gets stronger the times will go down. Hope he can get down to 48.4/5 by trials. Glad he beat Dai Greene I hope he can repeat it at the Olympics. I would love a medal and flash is more than capable but if no medal-so long as he beats Dai Greene- i'll be satisfied.

Jehue bags Bislett silver
Alexander 5th at NCAA Champs

Jehue Gordon produced his fastest clocking this season to earn silver in the men's 400 metres hurdles, at the Bislett Games Samsung Diamond League meet, in Oslo, Norway, yesterday.
The 20-year-old Trinidad and Tobago athlete got home in 48.78 seconds, forcing American Justin Gaymon to settle for bronze in 48.97. Puerto Rico's Javier Culson emerged victorious in a world-leading 47.92 seconds.
Reigning world champion David Greene was among the athletes Gordon beat to the line, the Briton finishing fourth in 48.98. Thanks to his 48.78 run, Gordon jumped from seventh to fourth on the 2012 world performance list.
T&T's Annie Alexander finished fifth in the women's discus, on the opening day of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Championships, in Iowa, USA, on Wednesday.
The University of Tennessee senior threw 56.69 metres.
Another T&T athlete, McNeese State University's Ashlee Smith, was 11th with a 53.86m effort.
Louisiana State University (LSU) senior Kyron Blaise produced a 7.79m leap for sixth spot in the men's long jump.
Morgan State University's Emmanuel Stewart finished 15th in the men's discus. He threw 54.99m.
University of Southern Mississippi student Richard Collingwood was unable to produce a legal throw.
LSU senior Semoy Hackett clocked 11.16 seconds in the second of three women's 100m semi-final heats to advance to today's final fifth fastest. Kai Selvon was third in heat three in a personal best 11.21 seconds, the Auburn University sophomore progressing to the final as a "fastest loser".
Texas A&M University freshman Deon Lendore finished third in heat two in 45.19 seconds to advance to today's men's 400m championship race as a "fastest loser".
LSU's Ade Alleyne-Forte (46.34) and Baylor University's Zwede Hewitt (46.80) were 16th and 22nd, respectively, and did not advance to the final.
Washington State University's Shawna Fermin was 18th overall in the women's 400m semis in 52.99 seconds. Hackett ran the second leg for LSU, the fastest qualifiers in the women's 4x100m relay in 42.68 seconds. Selvon's Auburn just missed out on a spot in the final, finishing ninth overall in 44.01.
Nyoka Giles' University of Minnesota (44.48) and T'Keyah Dumoy's Florida International University (49.09) were 13th and 23rd, respectively. Washington State (45.41) finished 20th. Fermin, though, was not among the four athletes who represented the school in the event.
Shermund Allsop's LSU (38.77) and Jamol James' Tennessee (39.25) qualified for the men's sprint relay final, finishing second and eighth, respectively.
At the Jim Bush Southern California Championships, last Saturday, T&T's Chris Hercules won the men's triple jump with a 16.12m effort.
Marcus Duncan finished second in the men's 100m "B" race in 10.58 seconds. And in the women's 100m "A" race, Magnolia Howell clocked 11.64 to cop seventh spot.

Plus no one was arguing that Lalonde is going to make the Olympic 400m final, who argued that?
Lets get pass National Trials first and then we can speculate about who can make finals come Olympics. :beermug:

Kai Selvon, Kelly-Ann Baptiste, Semoy Hackett and Michelle-Lee Ahye combined for a new women's 4x100 metres national record, at the Thomas Robinson Classic in Nassau, Bahamas, on Saturday.
The Trinidad and Tobago quartet won in 43.21 seconds, shaving one-hundredth of a second off the 43.22 standard, established at the 2009 World Championships, in Berlin, Germany.
Bahamas finished a distant second on Saturday in 44.38 seconds, while third spot was copped by Dominican Republic (45.01).
T&T also topped the qualifying round, Selvon, Baptiste, Hackett and Ahye getting the baton round the track in 43.35 seconds. The T&T women are bidding for Olympic qualification.
Another T&T sprinter, Ayanna Hutchinson, finished fourth in the women's invitational 100m dash in a wind-assisted 11.56 seconds. Virgil Hodge, of St Kitts and Nevis, won in 11.30, beating Dominican Republic sprinters, Marielys Sanchez (11.41) and Fany Chalas (11.47) into second and third, respectively.
At the Rice All Comers Meet, in Texas, USA, last Thursday, T&T sprinter Aaron Armstrong topped the men's 100m field in 10.35 seconds.
Last Wednesday, Melissa De Leon returned a time of two minutes, 05.20 seconds to finish second in the women's 800m, at the American Milers Club (AMC) Meet 3, in Indiana. And on Saturday, at the AMC Meet 4, the T&T half-miler was sixth in 2:04.11.
Also on Saturday, at the Donovan Bailey Invitational, in Edmonton, Canada, Chris Hercules bagged bronze in the men's triple jump. The T&T athlete jumped a wind-aided 15.90 metres.
Two Sundays ago, at the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Invitational, in St Kitts, Hutchinson seized silver in the women's 100m dash in 11.58 seconds. Another T&T sprinter, Aaliyah Telesford clocked 12.04 to finish fourth. Hodge earned gold in 11.39, while bronze went to Grenada's Janelle Redhead (11.78).
In the women's 100m "B" race, T&T sprinters Kamaria Durant, Lisa Wickham and Shauna Mason finished first, third and fourth, respectively, clocking 11.72, 11.82 and 11.83. And in the 200m, Durant copped second spot in 23.54 seconds, finishing behind Redhead (23.21) and ahead of Hodge (23.58).
T&T's Moriba Morain got to the line in 10.41 seconds to cop fourth spot in the men's 100m dash.
Kim Collins led a St Kitts and Nevis medal sweep, the 2003 world champion clocking 10.09 to finish ahead of BJ Lawrence (10.21) and Jason Rogers (10.26).
T&T teenager Jonathan Holder produced a 21.79 seconds run to finish fourth in the men's 200m "B" race. Antiguan Tahir Walsh (21.26), and Vincentians Courtny Bascombe (21.52) and Courtney Williams (21.60) were first, second and third, respectively.
Morain, Joel Dillon, Holder and Le-Sean Noel combined for second spot in the men's 4x100m relay in 40.05 seconds. St Kitts and Nevis (39.74) finished first.
And in the women's sprint relay, the T&T quartet—Hutchinson, Telesford, Durant and Wickham—clocked 45.13 seconds to secure bronze, behind St Kitts and Nevis (44.90) and Grenada (44.95).

It may have been a training run (working on part(s) of his race), or you never know, the effects of jet lag. Newman from the US is also a much better sprinter than 10.45, so I do not think the times are indicative of the athletes' capabilities.
As you mentioned, let's see how he performs tomorrow

At any rate Kim Collins seems to have RT's number over the last year or so in most races where they clash.
Hopefully RT was jet lagged or something. :-\

Thompson takes third place in Reims 100m
Published: Friday, July 6, 2012

Reigning Olympic 100 metres silver medallist Richard Thompson finished third in the men’s 100-metre event at the Reims International Meeting in Reims, France yesterday. Thompson clocked 10.26 seconds to finish behind American Michael Rodgers 10.18 seconds, former World Champion Kim Collins (St Kitts) 10.22. The 27-year-old ran in his first race since losing his national crown to Keston Bledman (9.85 to 9.96). The 2008 NCAA 60/100 champion will next run at the Aviva Diamond League Meeting in Paris later today. He will face former world champions Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin, both of the USA and European champion Christophe Lemaitre (France). Jehue Gordon will hope to be among the starters in the men’s 400m hurdles. The 2010 World Junior champion missed the National Championships due to a thigh injury.

He making semis with those times?
Oh gawd TC.
It doh have 24(the # of semi-finalists) ppl in the world better that RT, but their might be eight...
-
It is looking more and more like Richard has not benefitted and in fact may have gone backwards since moving to John Smith's camp.
Hopefully he proves us all wrong come London Olympics as he is supposed to be our 2nd best 100m sprinter at present and folks were looking for RT to at least make the 100m final.

Look, if he running them times I might be able to beat him. 10.20 and 10.25..again outside of T&T these guys struggling to make a decent time.
And while what you say is true, supposed he gets into a stacked race?
-
Yohan Blake, Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin Tyson Gay, Bledman, Asafa Powell, Ryan Bailey, Christophe Lemaitre, Daniel Bailey, Kim Collins, Derrick Atkins, Churandy Martina, Francis Obikwelu, someone running their PB etc. Jaysuma Saidy Ndure
Richard has a bad mind anyway. I am backing him to make the finals. Someone favored to make it will not. False start, upset, poor start, injuries who knows but he needs to step it up.
The Torpedo moving like a sore foot as of now. Get it in high gear RT.
-
I wonder how many more Meets is RT running in before Olympics?
His time to prove himself as a worthy Olympic 100m finalist contender is rapidly running out.
He needs to win a couple races and to take a few scalps who are expected to make the 100m final in London before we can rank him as a hot contender to even make the Olympic 100m final, forget about medalling!
-
if all plays out as planned, Jamaica should sweep. But Asafa again..lord doh know what to say about this guy. Nice guy frm all reports but he cyar cannot seem to deal with rounds.

Hopefully RT's advantage is that he is generally good at running rounds and seems to get better and better thru the rounds.
Plus his bad mind should help him to perform at his peak on the biggest occasions.

Jehue Gordon finished fifth in the men's 400 metres hurdles at the Meeting Areva Samsung Diamond League meet, in Paris, France, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete got home in 49.03 seconds.
Javier Culson maintained his unbeaten run this season, the Puerto Rican topping the field in a world-leading 47.78 seconds.
Great Britain's David Greene, the reigning world champion, was also impressive, finishing second in a personal best 47.84. Dominican Republic's 2004 Olympic champion, Felix Sanchez (48.56) was third, and American Bershawn Jackson (48.67) fourth.
T&T sprinter Richard Thompson got to the line in 10.20 seconds to secure eighth spot in a nine-man men's 100m field.
Tyson Gay led a one-two finish for the United States, stopping the clock at 9.99 seconds to beat Justin Gatlin (10.03) into second spot. France's Christophe Lemaitre (10.08) was third.
On Wednesday, Thompson clocked 10.26 seconds to finish third in the 100m, at an international meet in Reims, France. American Mike Rodgers (10.18) and St Kitts and Nevis sprinter Kim Collins (10.22) copped the top two spots.
At the Folksam Grand Prix, in Sweden, on Thursday, T&T quarter-miler Jarrin Solomon seized silver in the men's 400m in 46.25 seconds. Sudan's Tabah Yousif (45.80) and Great Britain's Louis Persent (46.74) finished first and third, respectively.
Also on Thursday, T&T half-miler Jamaal James returned a time of one minute, 47.99 seconds to secure second spot in the men's 800m, at the InColor Hub City Classic, in Moncton, Canada. Bermuda's Aaron Evans (1:47.92) earned gold, while bronze went to American Tevan Everett (1:48.02).
Magnolia Howell clocked 11.72 seconds to finish fourth in the women's 100m. In an earlier century race, Howell was third in 11.74.
And Melissa De Leon copped eighth spot in the women's 800m in 2:09.16.

Gay beats Gatlin
Story Created: Jul 6, 2012 at 11:03 PM ECT
PARIS
Tyson Gay beat fellow American Justin Gatlin in the 100 metres while Kenenisa Bekele's Olympic hopes were diluted at the Paris Diamond League meeting yesterday as five world season's best were set on the Stade de France track.
Gay won in 9.99 seconds after Gatlin failed to sustain a good start and finished with a time of 10.03 just three weeks before the start of the London Olympics. Eleven days ago Gay was beaten by Gatlin at the US trials.
"I took my revenge. Maybe I made some mistake at the start. I want to win the gold medal (in London)," said Gay.
Gatlin added: "The goal is the gold, my chances are good. I don't want to train to be second or third. I was a bit tired tonight. I could have done better".
Twice European champion Christophe Lemaitre of France took third place in 10.08 as light drizzle fell on the stadium. Dejen Gebremeskel led an Ethiopian one-two in the 5,000 metres, clocking a world leading 12:46.81 to beat Hagos Gebrhiwet, who set a junior world record of 12:47.53.
Bekele, however, conceded he would not defend his title in London after being only the fifth Ethiopian to cross the line. "I won't compete at the Olympics in the 5,000 metres but I'm not that disappointed because I'll run the 10,000 metres," he said.
Referring to the calf problems he has suffered for three years, he added: "What can I do about an injury?"
David Rudisha was one of five athletes to set a world season's best but the Kenyan failed in his attempt to break his own world record in the 800 metres, clocking 1:41.54, 0.53 outside the mark he set in 2010.
"I'm happy and I'm impressed with the way I ran today. The Olympic title is what I'm aiming for now," said Rudisha, who beat second-placed Antonio Manuel Reina of Spain by more than four seconds. "I'll go back home to train and get ready for the Olympics and then I'll be looking for a fast race and the world record," he added.
Australian Sally Pearson was again in a class of her own when she destroyed the field in the women's 100 metres hurdles with a world leading 12.40 seconds.
"I was expecting a fast time and if I would have a clear race it could be a 12.3. I'm excited to see my shape," she said.
The world record of 12.21, held by Bulgarian Yordanka Donkova since 1988, is one of the oldest in athletics. French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie, who is unbeaten outdoors this year and will be the hot favourite in the Olympics, only needed to clear 5.77 metres to win the event.
He then failed with three attempts at 5.82 metres. "The incredible jump will have to come in London (at the Games)," he said.
Puerto Rico's Javier Culson won the 400 metres hurdles in a world season's best time of 47.78 ahead of world champion David Greene of Britain (47.84). Culson, however, does not see himself as favourite to win the Olympic race.
"I'm not considering myself as the Olympics favourite, I'm not the only one, there are other athletes, especially Greene who will be at home," he said.
Moroccan Mariem Alaoui Selsouli also set a world season's best when she won the 1,500 metres in 3:56.15.

Hurdler Jehue Gordon was fifth in the men’s 400-metre hurdles race at the Aviva Paris Grand Prix leg of the Samsun Diamond League series in Paris, France yesterday. In his first race since his leg injury the 2010 World Junior champion clocked 49.03 and had the satisfaction of dipping under the Olympic A standard of 49.50 for yet another time for the year. Taking the gold ahead of the national record holder was Javier Culson (Puerto Rico) who clocked a world leading time of 47.78 to remain unbeaten in the Diamond League series.
Reigning World champion David Greene (Great Britain) 47.84 and former world champions Felix Sanchez (Domincan Republic) 48.56 and Bershawn Jackson (USA) 48.67 all finished ahead of the 20-year-old former Belmont Boys/QRC hurdler. Reigning Olympic 100m silver medallist Richard Thompson finished down the field in the men’s 100m clocking 10.20 to take eighth spot.
Former World Champion Tyson Gay (9.99) got the better of Justin Gatlin (10.03) in a reverse of the top two finish at the USA trials. Two time European champion Christopher Lemaitre (France) was third (10.08). Jamaicans Nickel Ashmeade (10.14) and Michael Frater (10.14), and Americans Michael Rodgers (10.16) and Trel Kimmons (10.18) all finished ahead of Thompson. The 2008 NCAA 60m/100m champion was third in Reims on Wednesday in 10.26.

Richard is done for this season as far as I can see. I'm hoping and expecting him to make the semis but not anything further. I dare him to make me a liar!! Bledman has a chance of making the final and if not mentally overawed by the competition has a small outside chance of getting a bronze!!
I've looked at Richard's races his techniques has changed but he has not adjusted to it as yet ...... the key difference between him and the other racers is in one word "strength" ...... he is "weak" !!!

Alright the IAAF has the wind listed as +3.8. So that final was windy. However the youth from the Caymans did also run 9.95 in the semis with legal wind.

Now that he has the A standard, does this mean he will be running the 400m in London? July 8 is the final date to achieve qualification standards. July 9 is final date to submit the team. Hopefully, we can have 3 reps for this event in London... I think his performance confirms that we are now medal contenders for the 4x400.
-
Wow. Just looked at his race. Very impressive.
As it stands, here are the medal contending teams for the 4x400 (in no particular order):
USA
BAH
JAM
TRI
GB
BEL
CUB
SA
I think these teams will be in the 4x400 final. And here are some teams to look out for:
JAP
AUS
RUS
-
I would definitely put Russia in the final instead of another team (Cuba, SA or T&T). The results in their OG Trials were:
1 Maksim Dyldin 45.01
2 Pavel Trenikhin 45.24
3 Vladimir Krasnov 45.36
4 Denis Alekseyev 45.43
5 Valentin Krugliakov 45.85
6 Sergey Petukhov 46.10
7 Konstantin Sverkach 46.46
8 Denis Nesmashny 47.04
And never count out Poland, as they have numerous decent to world class 200/400, 400, and 400/800 sprinters

Gordon secures Olympic 400 berth

Trinidad and Tobago's Lalonde Gordon earned the right to compete in the men's 400 metres event at the 2012 London Olympics when he stopped the clock at a personal best 45.02 seconds at the United States National Club Track and Field Championships, in Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday.
Gordon's clocking was 28-hundredths of a second faster than the 45.30 Olympic "A" standard.
Two weeks ago, Gordon won the national title with a 45.40 seconds run at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. However, since T&T already had two "A" qualifiers--Renny Quow and Deon Lendore—Gordon's "B" time triumph was not enough to secure a spot on the Olympic team for the one-lap event. He was selected on the 4x400m relay squad.
Gordon, though, has put things right, a dominant performance for his New York club, Zenith Velocity, ensuring that the Lowlands Tobago athlete will represent the Red, White and Black in the individual 400 in London.
Gordon seized early control in Friday's one-lap race, opening up a huge lead on the back straight. The 23-year-old came off the final turn with only the clock to challenge him.
He widened the gap on the home straight for a crushing victory, crossing the finish line with some 12 metres of daylight to spare on American Terrance Livingston, the runner-up in 46.61 seconds.
Gordon completed an impressive double, yesterday, winning the 200m final in 20.63 seconds. Jamaican Jermaine Brown (20.72) and American Christopher Williams (20.77) finished second and third, respectively.

Gordon strikes double gold at USA Club meet

National men’s 400m champion Lalonde Gordon finally got under the Olympic A standard in the one-lap event clocking 45.02 seconds on the first day of the 2012 USATF Club Championships in Omaha, Nebraska, USA on Friday. Competing for his Zenith Velocity Club, Gordon got under the 45.30 seconds required to compete at the London Games which get underway on July 27 and run until October 12. The 23-year-old finished well ahead of Terrance Livingston (Central Park/USA) 46.61 seconds and Erison Hurtault (Central Park/Dominica) 46.78.
Despite taking the national title at the Sagicor/NGC Open Championships on June 23 in 45.40, short of the A mark which was achieved by second place and third place finishers Renny Quow (44.84) and Deon Lendore (45.13). The time is a new personal best for the 2011 CAC senior Championships 4X400m silver medallist improving his previous best of 45.33 seconds set earlier this year. Gordon was selected as part of this country’s Olympic men’s mile relay team and had until July 8 to get the 45.30 seconds mark. Gordon struck double gold taking the 200-metre finals in 20.63 seconds, improving his personal best time by 0.04 seconds. He topped the heats earlier in the day in 20.78.

Jarrin Solomon produced a new personal best in finishing second in the men's 400 metres event, at the Bottrop Gala meet, in Germany, on Saturday.
The Trinidad and Tobago quartermiler got home in 45.31 seconds to finish behind Dominican Republic's Luguelin Santos, the 18-year-old sensation stopping the clock at 45.15. Curacao's Lee-Marvin Bonevacia (45.80) was third.
Solomon, a member of T&T's 4x400m relay squad for the London Olympics, missed out on the 45.30 seconds Olympic "A" standard by just one-hundredth of a second. His 45.31 clocking was a big improvement on his previous best of 45.68.
Emanuel Mayers was also on show at the Bottrop Gala, the T&T athlete finishing seventh in the men's 400m hurdles in 50.97 seconds.
On Sunday, at the Meeting de Nancy, in France, Solomon bagged bronze in the men's 400m in 46.16 seconds. United States Virgin Islands quartermiler Tabarie Henry won in 45.49, beating American Calvin Smith (45.59) into second spot.
At the Meeting de Atletismo, in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday, T&T's Marc Burns finished third in the men's 100m final in a wind-assisted 10.08 seconds. Cayman Islands sprinter Kemar Hyman (9.95) and Jamaica's Kemar Bailey Cole (9.98) earned gold and silver, respectively.
In the qualifying round, Burns clocked 10.16 seconds to finish second in heat two. Hyman won the race in a personal best 9.95—a new Cayman Islands national record.
At the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic, in Halifax, Canada, on Sunday, T&T's Jamaal James returned a time of one minute, 48.57 seconds to cop fourth spot in the men's 800m. And in the women's 800m, another T&T halfmiler, Melissa De Leon was sixth in 2:06.40.

The stock of our 4x400m Mens relay team keeps rising.....
The 4x400m ladies starting to look decent too!
If we add one or both of our two World Class 400m Hurlers to the squad at the right time I can see them shattering the NR and possibly dipping below 3:30.00 to enter the World's Top 16!
Let's hope they can do that time between now and next year so they can qualify for the 2013 World Championships.
-
I hope so too. It is strange that T&T has not produced more 400m female athletes as has been the case with the men over time. We've had decent talent in the 100 and 200 internationally, and 800 and 1500 regionally, but have not had "medal-contending" individuals in the 400m. Would like to see the national record go below 52 secs. for starters.

Bledman disappoints in London
Saturday, July 14 2012
National sprint champion, Keston Bledman, failed to make the final of the Men’s 100m at yesterday’s Aviva London Grand Prix at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, London. It was a disappointing performance for the 24-year-old who is considered to be TT’s main medal contender in the individual sprint at the Olympics.
Bledman, who lined up in heat one, stopped the clock at 10.27 to finish fourth in a time of 10.27. American Ryan Bailey crossed the finish line first in 10.06. Heat two was won by Jamaican Michael Frater in a time of 10.15 while USA’s Tyson Gay followed closely in 10.15 as well.
In the final, however, there was no stopping former World champion, Gay who secured the victory in a relatively slow 10.03 while running into a headwind. Bailey took the silver in 10.09 while Jamaican Nesta Carter claimed bronze in 10.13.
Today, the national 4x100m relay team will be in action against a competitive field. Also in the final will be the world record holders, Jamaica; Great Britain, France and Poland.

Trinidad and Tobago's Keston Bledman missed out on a lane in the men's 100 metres final, at the Aviva London Grand Prix Samsung Diamond League meet, in London, England, yesterday.
Bledman clocked 10.27 seconds to finish fourth in heat one and ninth overall in the
qualifying round.
The top eight sprinters advanced to the final, which was won by Tyson Gay, of the United States, in 10.03. Another American, Ryan Bailey (10.09) was second, while Jamaican Nesta Carter (10.13) finished third.
On Wednesday, at the Toronto Star International Track Classic, in Canada, T&T's Jamaal James finished second in the men's 800m in one minute, 47.47 seconds.

Tyson Gay wins in dreary London
Story Created: Jul 13, 2012 at 11:02 PM ECT
l LONDON
Tyson Gay prepared for the anticipated chilly Olympics here by winning the 100 metres at the London Grand Prix in dreary conditions yesterday.
The former world champion won in 10.03 seconds in a headwind of 1.2 metres per second, ahead of fellow American Ryan Bailey and Nesta Carter of Jamaica.
"I'm in pretty good shape, I just need to work on some things on my groin area with my physio and I should be good to go," Gay said. "I feel I know how to mentally prepare for this type of weather and this was the best place to prepare for the games."
Gay's main rivals for the July 27-Aug. 12 Olympics were absent.
Asafa Powell withdrew with a groin strain to ensure he is fit for the games, and Olympic champion Usain Bolt sidestepped the event for tax reasons.
There was a lacklustre performance from home sprinter Dwain Chambers, who is preparing for the games after a lifetime Olympic doping ban for British offenders was lifted. Chambers failed to even advance from the heats.
In the 110 hurdles, Aries Merritt of the United States won in 12.93 seconds, equaling his own world-leading time this year, after 2004 Olympic champion Liu Xiang qualified for the final but withdrew with a back strain.
Home favorite Mo Farah enjoyed a comfortable victory in the 5,000 metres in 13 minutes, 6.04 seconds, more than 3 seconds ahead of Collis Birmingham of Australia after upping the pace in the final two laps.
In the women's 5,000, world champion Vivian Cheruiyot led home a Kenyan 1-2-3-4 finish.
World champion Dai Greene was denied victory in the 400 hurdles, finishing second behind Javier Culson just like at the Paris leg of the Diamond League two weeks ago.
It helped Culson acclimatise for the Olympics.
There was, however, an unexpected British success in the women's 400 hurdles. Perri Shakes-Drayton, ranked 21st in the event, won in 53.77, more than 1.7 seconds ahead of 2008 Olympic champion Melaine Walker, who was fourth.
European champion Irina Davydova of Russia was second, followed by Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica.
The long jump was won by Australia's Mitchell Watt, and Bjorn Otto of Germany took the pole vault.

Sprint relay men win in London

Rondel Sorrillo, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callender and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson combined for victory in the men's 4x100 metres relay, at the Aviva London Grand Prix Samsung Diamond League meet, in London, England, yesterday.
The T&T quartet clocked 38.23 seconds, forcing Netherlands to settle for silver in 38.70. Poland (38.78) and Great Britain (38.80) finished third and fourth, respectively, while fifth spot was copped by Jamaica, MVP sprinters Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Ainsley Waugh and Omar Douglas combining for a 38.82 run.
Thompson was impressive on the anchor leg, the double Olympic silver medallist opening a gap on the field to hand T&T a comfortable victory.
The 38.23 clocking produced by Sorrillo, Burns, Callender and Thompson is the second fastest time in the world this year. At the top of the 2012 world list is a Jamaica team—Racers Track Club sprinters Mario Forsythe, Yohan Blake, Kimmari Roach and Usain Bolt. The powerful quartet stopped the clock at 37.82 seconds at a meet in Jamaica, in April.
Missing from the T&T team, yesterday, was Keston Bledman. The national sprint champion competed in the individual 100m on Friday, but did not advance to the final. Bledman finished fourth in his heat and ninth overall in 10.27 seconds.
At the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing, China, Bledman, Burns, Callender and Thompson earned silver in 38.06 seconds, the T&T quartet finishing behind Jamaica, the winners in a world record 37.10.
One year later, at the World Championships, in Berlin, Germany, T&T again finished second to Jamaica (37.31), Darrel Brown, Burns, Callender and Thompson clocking an impressive 37.62 seconds—the current national record.
T&T's sprint relay men will be hoping for another trip to the podium at the 2012 London Olympics.

T&T sprint relay team wins in London ahead of Olympics
Published: Sunday, July 15, 2012
Reigning Olympic men’s sprint silver medalists Trinidad and Tobago notched a win ahead of the London Olympics Games in running away with the 4x100m event at the Aviva London Grand Prix in Crystal Palace, yesterday. The team of Rondel Sorillo, Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callender and Richard Thompson combined to clock 38.23 to finish ahead of Netherlands (38.70) and Poland (38.78). Great Britain A (38.80), MVP-Jamaica (38.82, Great Britain B (38.94), France (38.95) and St Kitts/Nevis (39.19) all finished behind. T&T last won the event in 2008 in a then national record of 38.00 before taking the historic silver medal in Beijing, China, one month later. The national quartet is now second on the 2012 IAAF Performance listing behind Jamaica’s Racers (37.82) and MVP, also Jamaica, (38.27).
The sprint relay victory was the lone win for local athletes in London as Keston Bledman was ninth in the men’s 100m heats. The national champion clocked 10.27 in heat one to finished fourth but his time relegated the 2005 World Youth bronze medallist to ninth after the second heat was run with only the top eight advancing to the finals. American Ryan Bailey topped Bledman’s heat in 10.06 ahead of Nesta Carter (Jamaica) 10.15 and another American Mike Rodgers (USA) 10.18. Former World Champion Tyson Gay (USA)raced to the gold in the finals in 10.03 ahead of Bailey (10.09), Carter (10.13) and Michael Frater(Jamaica) 10.15. Jamaal James was second in the men’s 800m at the Toronto International Track and Field Games earlier this week. James clocked 1:47.47 but was beaten to the line by Geoff Harris of Canada (1:46.86. American Michael Preble was third 1:47.54.

Renny Quow fifth in Ireland

Trinidad and Tobago's Renny Quow finished fifth in the men's 400 metres event at the Cork City Sports meet, in Ireland, on Tuesday. The 2009 World Championship bronze medallist clocked 46.66 seconds.
The race was dominated by Rabah Yousif, the Sudanese runner getting home in 45.30 seconds for a huge cushion on American Manteo Mitchell, the runner-up in 46.27. Ireland's Brian Gregan (46.29) and Great Britain's Jarryd Dunn (46.53) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Quow is preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. At the 2008 Games, in Beijing, China, he advanced all the way to the men's one-lap final, finishing seventh in the championship race in 45.22 seconds.
One month before his Beijing campaign, Quow dived under 45 seconds for the first time in his career, clocking 44.89 for second spot at a meet in Barcelona, Spain.
This season, though, Quow has not enjoyed the same type of success. His best 2012 clocking to date came at the Jamaica International Invitational, the 24-year-old quarter-miler finishing second in 45.48 seconds.
Quow's next best clocking this season, 45.60, was produced in the National Open Track and Field Championship final. However, he surrendered his title in that race, finishing second to Lalonde Gordon (45.40).
In London, Gordon, Quow and 19-year-old Deon Lendore will represent T&T in the men's 400m. In the National Championship final, Lendore (45.74) copped third spot.

Cardiff sprint doubles for Callender, Hackett
By Kwame Laurence kwame.laurence@trinidadexpress.com
Story Created: Jul 19, 2012 at 10:58 PM ECT
Emmanuel Callender and Semoy Hackett defied adverse conditions at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, in Wales yesterday, to record sprint doubles.
Running into a 2.7 metres per second headwind, on a cold, windy and rainy day in Cardiff, Callender topped the men's 100 metres field in 10.50 seconds.
The Trinidad and Tobago sprinter finished just ahead of Australia's Joshua Ross, the silver medallist in 10.51. Jason Rogers (10.74), of St Kitts and Nevis, was third. And another T&T athlete, Jamol James, clocked 10.86 to cop sixth spot.
Callender was also victorious in the 200m, getting to the line in a stadium record 20.89 seconds. His T&T teammates, Deon Lendore and Lalonde Gordon, finished second and fourth, respectively. Lendore clocked 21.27, and Gordon 21.43.
Hackett captured the women's sprint double.
The T&T athlete produced an 11.54 seconds run, into a 2.0 headwind, to grab gold in the 100m dash. Her clocking is a new stadium record.
St Kitts and Nevis sprinter, Tameka Williams (11.56) picked up silver. And Hackett's teammates, Michelle-Lee Ahye and Kai Selvon were third and fourth, respectively, clocking 11.62 and 11.78.
There was also a new stadium record for Hackett in the 200m. She completed the half-lap race in 23.65 seconds to lead a one-two T&T finish, Reyare Thomas seizing silver in 24.25.
Jehue Gordon also struck gold for T&T at the Olympic warm-up meet. He won the men's 400m hurdles in 49.75 seconds, forcing Germany's Georg Fleischhauer (49.98) to settle for silver.
T&T's Mikel Thomas shrugged off a strong 3.0 headwind to win the men's 110m hurdles in 13.86 seconds.
Ade Alleyne-Forte clocked 47.25 for second spot in the men's 400m. And in the women's 400m, Sparkle McKnight (53.74) and Janeil Bellille (55.66) were third and seventh, respectively.
Machel Cedenio, Alleyne-Forte, Jehue Gordon and Jarrin Solomon combined to give T&T victory in the men's 4x400m relay, in a stadium record three minutes, 07.11 seconds.
An African Combined team finished second in 3:08.05, while third spot went to New Zealand (3:08.88).
Selvon, Ahye, Reyare Thomas and McKnight claimed gold in the women's 4x100m relay. The T&T quartet got the baton round the track in 44.70 seconds—a new stadium record. Wales (46.24) finished a distant second, while third spot was copped by Wales "B" (47.69).
The T&T athletes are in Cardiff, attending a pre-Olympic Games camp.

Solomon wins at Hungary meet
Story Created: Aug 20, 2012 at 11:19 PM ECT
Trinidad and Tobago's Jarrin Solomon topped the podium yesterday at the Budapest Gyulai Istvan Memorial, winning the Men's 400m at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix event.
Solomon, who recently helped T&T's 4x400m relay team to their first such medal since 1964, clocked 45.48 seconds for victory. He finished ahead of Rabah Yousif of Sudan (45.86) and Richard Buck (46.02), who were second and third respectively.
Also at that meet, Cleopatra Borel threw her way to silver in the women's shot put, sending the iron ball 18.58 metres to finish behind eventual winner, USA's Michelle Carter, whose best effort went 18.84m.
Third was Natalya Mikhnevich of Belarus (18.48m).
T&T's 4x100m relay bronze medallist Keston Bledman was also on the podium at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Warsaw, Poland, finishing second in the Men's 100m event. Bledman clocked 10.28 running into a 1.6 metres per second headwind, to finish just behind Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole (10.24).
St Kitts and Nevis veteran runner Kim Collins, who missed out on the Olympics in controversial fashion after breaking team rules, was a hair's breath away from Bledman in 10.29, the same time as fourth-placed Gerald Phiri of Zambia.

Bledman ran 15.05 in Birmingham on the weekend. His season started with so much promise.. Too bad it is turning out the way it is. I think he should end the season before he aggravates his injuries more.

The race was actually in Slovenia, but yes I agree that he should shut it down. That time he ran tells me that he more than likely pulled up, so I hope he did not do much more damage than has already occurred.

Bledman ran 15.05 in Birmingham on the weekend. His season started with so much promise.. Too bad it is turning out the way it is. I think he should end the season before he aggravates his injuries more.
The race was actually in Slovenia, but yes I agree that he should shut it down. That time he ran tells me that he more than likely pulled up, so I hope he did not do much more damage than was already occurred.

Baptiste wins in Berlin
By STEPHON NICHOLAS Monday, September 3 2012
TRINIDAD and Tobago’s Kelly-Ann Baptiste successfully defended her 100m crown at the ISTAF Berlin in the IAAF World Challenge Meeting yesterday in another impress result for the consistent sprinter.
Baptiste, running into a headwind, stopped the clock at 11.25 to clinch first place ahead of the field which included 2008 Olympic silver medallist, Kerron Stewart and her Jamaica compatriot Aleen Bailey.
Stewart copped second place in a time of 11.27 while France’s Myriam Soumare crossed third in 11.34. Bailey followed in fourth place (11.36).
Missing from the field were Olympic champions Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica and her nemesis Carmelita Jeter of the US but it was still an impressive performance from Baptiste who has been the model of consistency on the European circuit this season.
It was the perfect response from Baptiste who was disqualified at the Samsung Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday for a false start.
On August 23, however, the Tobagonian grabbed the bronze at the Lausanne stop of the Diamond League in a sizzling 10.93 clocking.
Also yesterday, Jamaican Kemar Bailey-Cole powered to victory in the Men’s 100m final in ten seconds flat. There was no Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake or Asafa Powell but coming to the fore was a Jamaican yet again.
Bailey-Cole, a member of the world record-breaking Jamaican 4x100m relay team at the London Olympics, is now making a name for himself on the international circuit and is doing himself no injustice with performances like this. Veteran Kim Collins of St Kitts was second in 10.07 while Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut followed in 10.12.
Two-time reigning Olympic champ, Felix Sanchez, had little competition in the Men’s 400m hurdles but still put in an impressive effort in taking the gold.
The Dominican Republic athlete crossed the line in a fast 48.89 seconds ahead of Jamaica’s Leford Green (49.06) and Belgium’s Michael Bultheel (49.30).
