The Worst United Team In Years?

1. Won the league by 9 points

2. Contains the Premier League’s top scorer (21).

3. Enjoyed the best home form in Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, winning 18 and drawing 1.

4. Picked up more points than the Treble winning side of 1999.

5. Booked a place in the European Cup final.

6. Contains the player with the most Premier League assists (18).

7. Lost 4 games, which was at least 4 games less than any other club.

8. Scored more goals than any other club (78).

9. Failed to score in just 5 games, which was less than any other club.

If you saw the equaliser you would understand... 3 bad calls in 1 play

I find you real present btw, posting in every EPL thread.. 1 win vs Chelsea and yuh have swagger like if you just won the league...  be ready for the usual fade away in Feb/March... you have no chance to win the league..City have a better shot... your kids not ready yet

for 5 years we have been told we don't show up on the big games, we are just kids, not strong enough, easily bullied, weak etc all the rhetoric, even this season we were weak in the big games even against your side, so forgive me if i revel in the fact we are starting to prove the doubters wrong

also

i hope you realise your glory days as a manu fan will be something you look back upon as you get older and the dynasty fades away to the history books

Haha whatever you say bossman...we have been consistent for the last 18 years winning trophies for fun... and it does not look like we will dry up anytime soon

just remember the 5 years of hurt your own team is going through... I warned Arsenal fans not to be too excited after the Chelsea game...I said they will find a away to f**k things up... days later..2-2 with 10 man Wigan..what a joke of a team

Utd played like the home team - City defended well - the game ended 0-0. Plain and simple.

Utd tried to win the game; City tried not lose. To spend that much money on players, be at Eastlands, have the opportunity to leapfrog Utd and make a statement - then play like that - in a word, sad.

Expensive set up, big dreams - small team mentality. Bringing on a 40 million dollar striker in the last 30 seconds to waste time just said it all. In them kinda moves that does destroy individual and team morale yes.

Mancini eh d man for dis team - nor has he ever been.

Would been interestin to see how this game would have turned out had Utd been at full strength all over the park, but a point ain't a bad result, considerin Chelsea lost there not too long ago.

Eto'o finally get back a central role - he eh foragin for Mourinho again.

He makin Barca look rather premature and foolish right now (not that the transfer market has been Pep's strength in the last few years).

I not beating around the bush, I will go on record to say that Manchester United and Real Madrid are consistently the biggest beneficiaries of questionable calls in football. I challenged anyone to prove otherwise.

I would add Juventus to that list.  But many peeps on here doh watch Italian ball

Messi does score ball with his hand, Chelsea couldn't buy a penalty call in the CL semi against Barca, and today Victor Valdes hit a man a frankomen 6 peg brave star in he face, man was laid out flat with a concussion for minutes and lo and behold the free kick was awarded to Barca....

Big sides get the calls... simple.

So you sayin Chelsea is not a big side?  ;D

1) The ref never blew his whistle and never indicated anything but play on - Gomes was at fault.

2) If Gomes thought it was a free kick - why did he walk 10 yards away from the action and drop the ball as if there was no infraction?

3) Nani had no choice but to score in that situation - just as any fan of any team would have wanted their player to do.

Gomes may be a solid goalkeeper - but a deep thinker he is not.

Least these draws are comin away from home at traditionally difficult places to get 3 points.

They hadda start turnin these results into wins before it's too late though - but at least they defense lookin more solid and they doin what they hadda do at home so far.

The lack of investment in the central midfield continues to baffle me - and the lack of creativity yesterday only furthered that (especially in the light of Van der Vaart/Ozil's performances this season).

But I guess we go hadda jus work with what we have right now yes....wa yuh go do.

Rio returns and we get our first away win and clean sheet in 6 games - no coincidence there.

Too bad the course of our season still probably depends on injury prone, aged and mentally distracted players.

Man City have one of the best defensive midfields in the world; once Yaya, Barry and De Jong workin together effectively, they could break up pretty much any team on they day yes.
Yaya aint playing defensive midfield for man city. He's attacking a lot. Barry and De Jong (who btw was excellent) are doin the dirty work. Boyata was brilliant as well. We werent outplayed cuz on another day city could have well taken 3 at least. Ramires looks out of sorts and I'd like to see the 17 year old starting ahead of him right now.  :D

He's playing similarly to how he did at Barcelona - but as at the Nou Camp - he's a 2 way player. Basically what Arsenal wishes Diaby was.

Boy my partnahs gimme so much talk this weekend  ....shit .... this team took a day off it easy for us to say Almunia screwed up which he did.... but what about the rest of the team .... Sagna get skinned by that guy for the first goal...... clichy well as always he maintains his inconsistent season and the midfield didn't show up ...... chammak looked tired and eboue well he is eboue.

Time for rotation if Gibbs is fit rotate him in in place of Clichy and Vermalean is due back as well so Koshelsky could get a bit of a rest bring in Denilson in the mid and give song a rest .... rest Diaby again and bring in Wilshire  again and push Rosicky up top maybe on the left side and let Arshavin get some love on the right instead of the left.

I would also rest Chammakk and let this youth JET get a start in front of Vela because of his size ..... he's a big one and possesses that big body option.

We have two poor keepers so could we do any worse than promoting the other two keepers they deserve a chance ... and this is a good blooding opportunity.

I still feel we'll be ok and I feel that Given is being considered I just feel Wenger keeping his cards close to his chest .... besides he has to support his keeper ......how can he criticize his players in public? ... what would that do to team morale?

Isn't going after Swartzer tacitly criticizing Almunia? He's basically saying he's not good enough - and if you pursue a player so publicly you better get him otherwise u risk dealing a blow to the current player's confidence; and Almunia doh need no further help in da department right now na.

I eh too sure why Arsenal keep goin after these short-term/cut price options at Goalkeeper either - Swartzer is ok, good on his day - but the man is 37 and has already been suspect this season. I think when Arsenal actually goes after proven talent in key positions then maybe they could start fillin the trophy cabinet again yes.

You doh hadda pay exorbitant fees and wages for men like Yaya - but they really are a star striker, midfield enforcer/destroyer, GK and solid defensive depth away from contending on all fronts again.

Haha I suppose I could just post the obvious that the team is lacking in key areas - that without Rooney returning to form and/or adequate cover for Scholes and Fletcher Utd aren't as imposing.

That Johnny Evans clearly ain't ready yet, and I startin to worry that he ever will be.

But yet still - Glory Glory Man Utd!

From The Republik of Mancunia Blog:-

After being interview by Sky Sports after our 3-2 win over Liverpool, Dimitar Berbatov gave an interview with a Bulgarian TV network in his native tongue.

Here is the translation, with Berbatov being referred to as Mitko, the name he is known by in his home country.

Mitko you have had a troubled time…

I wouldn’t say troubled. I am not troubled. I am lucky. I have loved my time here.

A disappointing time. Would you say that?

I was disappointed with myself that I could not please all the supporters. I have said before the people of Manchester United are the judges and that is the way it should be. It is their team. I am a guest. A privileged guest.

This season what has changed?

Man, I don’t know but I’m just so happy. So confident. I feel like everything I imagine on the pitch will come true and that feels awesome. I have worked hard on my fitness. So hard. I’m not a weights guy, I’m sure you can see by my body, but I have been trying even to work on that. I ran 6 miles every day during the off season. I watched one World Cup match, went for a run. Then watched another and went for another run. This was my routine.

Wow…you must be tired!

No man that’s the thing. This crowd at Old Trafford. The way I feel right now. I’m not tired. I feel alive. I have always said I am so lucky to play here. For these people. For this manager. For this club. With these players. I can’t describe it man.

It is showing. Keep it up Mitko. What will you do now. Will you watch your goals?

No. Noooooooo! I can’t watch myself. Even when I came off and everyone was applauding I felt so shy. I love it but I don’t know how to react to it. I’m going to go home. Play with my family and maybe watch a movie later. I can’t wait for training. How weird is that?!

I hate to rehash the obvious, but i eh go lie dem refs is blatantly tief for man u dread..

second half i see webb blow for a foul.. The ball still rolling fast and them fellas just play on without spotting the ball to try to get an advantage.. Webb turn around, watch what happen and just say play on yes.

Then O'shea was supposed to be a red, bet yuh bottom dollar if it was a Liverpool defender did that he woulda get sent off with the quickness.

all this on the back of the ref blowing off a play last week on a goal attempt.

It blatant fellas, blatant!!

yeps.....yuh wish yuh shit side cud qualify for them kinda calls eh  ;)  :rotfl:

Whoever say O'Shea was a red card is jus biased cause it was not a clear goalscorin opportunity - last man don't mean automatic sendin off. The ref determined that there was a good chance that Van Der Sar could have reached the ball first; general obstruction = yellow card - plain and simple.

Nice scoreline, but lets not forget that Wigan are $h!t.
Actually not, martinez just does not know his best team. Just look at Boselli who is Scotty replacement he is sh!t but he will get figured out and Scotty will get his place back. When Caldwell comes back then wigan will be more solid. But Chelsea is different class and we'll see that again next week I will be sorry for the team we play when we start a game strong, we are still rusty IMO

Boselli is better than Scotland - Wigan is jus shit - or at least shit under Martinez. Goin to Wigan is a bad choice unless you don't have any even marginally better options yes. Relegation-battles, poor support and a club with little history to speak of is not somewhere I would have expected one of the hottest strikers in South America to have ended up at.

good point fellas, fulham won this fixture the last few times :beermug:

you is SAF spin doctor?

Fulham pull out two wins last season after 45 years without one and all of a sudden this is a "good point"? And up 2-1 with a chance to go 3?

Nah nah. ManUre standards real drop boy.

All the more reason why the 1 point salvaged by Fullham with the draw, was a "good point".

It eh a 'good' point - but it eh a horrible result neither. Utd have not won at Fulham in years - and indeed have always had a hard time at the Cottage.

They should have won under the circumstances - but didn't deserve to - and if Fulham won Utd could not have really complained much. It was points dropped - especially since Giggs should have taken the penalty - but Utd were simply not good enough on the day.

Utd always start slowly though - and Chelsea have run up the score against very weak opposition - so it's too early to tell how the season is going to play out.

I still think Utd is lightweight in a couple positions - and obviously need Rooney to return to form - but it seems SAF is set on the core of this team, so I guess we go hadda make due with the question marks.

Yuh mean like Ronaldinho

Or Arjen Robben, John Obi Mikel or Michael Essien??

Haha so Utd can't compete with Chelsea financially - tha eh exactly breakin news - and I see no shame in that. No shame either in gettin 12 million in compensation for a player (Mikel) that up to now has not fulfilled his much vaunted potential :)

Sure I woulda loved Essien and Robben - but if Utd had the same money that Chelsea did - who do you really tink the players would have chosen at the end of the day?

If a team beats u based on prestige das one ting - but cause they can pay more or players favour another league or country? Wa yuh go do yes.

Actually United's not getting Robben paved the way for them to get Ronaldo. I would take Ronaldo over Robben any day! And if memory serves my right Chelski over paid for Robben after Kenyon hijacked the deal when he went to Chelski.

Haha, na well I woulda taken both. Ronaldo on the left and Robben on the right - that would have been a deadly combination - though possibly just as much so in the locker room and defensively. From an attacking standpoint though - those 2 are probably the premier wingers of the 2000's.

But fuh real you would really have to wonder, what would have happened if Kenyon had not reportedly mucked up both that and the Ronaldinho deals. Not that Utd have exactly suffered unduly since then :)

That money argument pissing me off now. This is a business and it is not Chelsea fault that Abramovich saw a better investment in Chelsea than he did Man Utd or any other EPL team. Why did the Glasers choose Man Utd to off load there debts. This is business, why would you not spend your money to make your product/business better if you can. In every business the idea is to be better than your competition, whether it's spending money, improving facilities or bringing top notch employees, the underlying factor is to be more successful than the next competitor. When Man Utd paid 30 mill for Ferdinand who has done absolutely nothing or the same for Berbatov who finally scored vs New Castle, or Anderson who is relegated to the bench. Using that Chelsea has more money or spend more money is such a cop out, but you will expect that from you lot. Everyone bemoans Wenger for not spending and in the same breath mouth off on Chelsea and Man City for spending.

Haha, I never said there was anything wrong with teams flexing their financial muscle - I was just responding to the claim that players chose Chelsea over Utd based on merit and not other mitigating factors.

That Chelsea and City can lure players away from Utd with relatively limitless resources is clearly an advantage to them - and coupled with Utd's questionable track record with big name signings in the past - has led to more of a focus on investing in starlets to ingrain in the Utd culture from a young age. Whether many of these players will pan out remains to be seen - but with the current debt - Utd simply cannot afford to spend what other clubs can even if they wanted to.

Is this an excuse - no. It is a reason as to why clubs like Chelsea have caught up to Utd and why clubs like Arsenal have won nothing in years. Utd have dominated the EPL for 3 of the past 4 seasons and came within 2 points of winning it again despite losing their best player/the worst injury spell in memory and without much strengthening. Money helps - but Utd will always be competitive - even if their scouting department now has to work on overtime to unearth under-the-radar type players.

I can't hate though - City have a pretty decent prospective lineup, on paper at least (not sure bout Kompany being left out).

Haha when has their ever been any proof that Utd were competing with Real for Ozil?

The press says what they say and create a story - but the fact is Bremen themselves have said they only received 1 bid before the sale - which was also from Real. Utd were 'linked' with Ozil - but so were Chelsea and Barca - does that mean Real beat them as well to the player?

Also, when last have Real beaten Utd to a player they truly wanted?

What big players besides Ronaldo have Utd sold that they didn't want to (whom they got 80 million for)?

Indeed Utd rarely goes for the hyped players anymore - young talent like Ozil does fit their mold though - but he's not the wizard that people who do not follow Bremen make him out to be. Whether he will reach his supposed potential and show the form that he does for Germany, or become another talent lost to Madrid's bench - remains to be seen.

World Cup Lows

by Tom Adams - July 11, 2010

After enjoying a spectacle that comes around only once every four years, it seems somewhat churlish to pick out the bad parts, but pick them out we must, and South Africa certainly had its fair share of low points.

From technological failures to very human flaws, these are the five aspects of South Africa 2010 that will not be remembered fondly.

1. The scourge of simulation

The World Cup is supposed to be the four-yearly event in which football enchants the world, demonstrating just why it is beloved of billions across the globe. Sadly, certain events in South Africa threatened to provide ammunition to those who maintain footballers are nothing but a bunch of preening prima donnas. Perhaps the most notable, and most infuriating, was the reaction of Ivory Coast's Kader Keita as he threw himself to the floor after walking into Kaka, earning the Brazil playmaker a ridiculous red card. While Brazil were incensed, the mind immediately wandered back to 2002 in Ulsan and Rivaldo's deception to get Hakan Unsal sent off.

In 2010, Keita was far from the only offender. Swathes of players were sent sprawling to the turf, tenderly clutching their faces, as replays revealed the merest of brushes from an opponent's shoulder. Time and again, games witnessed more theatrical spills than Oliver Reed on a particularly unsteady night out. Let's name and shame a few: the Italy defence against New Zealand, Arturo Vidal getting Valon Behrami sent off and Switzerland's Steve von Bergen embarrassing himself in the same game were all notable examples of behaviour that must be eradictated.

2. FIFA's Black Sunday

As staunch opponents to the introduction of technology, FIFA's bigwigs must have been shifting uncomfortably in their executive seats, prawn sandwiches left uneaten, when two glaring mistakes from match officials left a black spot on the competition on June 27. Firstly, and most notably, Frank Lampard's shot clearly crossed the line against Germany, only for Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda to wave play on, sparking confusion in pubs across England. Replays confirmed the horrible truth, and surely moved the game a step closer to welcoming technology, rather than fearing it. However the suspicion remains that Sepp Blatter will continue to be the John Connor to Hawk-Eye's Skynet.

In the evening kick-off, Carlos Tevez then scored a blatantly offside goal as Argentina defeated Mexico 3-1. Somehow, the replay was broadcast live to the Soccer City crowd so referee Roberto Rosetti immediately knew his assistant had made a horrendous call. Aware of the grievous mistake but bound by the rules to ignore the evidence in front of his eyes, the Italian had no option but to ignore Mexico's pleas to disallow the goal. Not a great day for the governing body.

3. Vuvuzelas

We understand the argument that the vuvuzelas are part of South Africa culture and a legitimate way to express delight at a sporting occasion, but they are, in a word, annoying. Drowning out chants and songs from supporters inside the crowd, the constant drone from the dreaded horns came to infuriate television spectators as well. They were especially irritating when played in unison to create a pulsing sound; like having a particularly nasty migrane while sitting in a beehive.

After the opening game, South Africa goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune even had the cheek to complain that the vuvuzelas were not loud enough. Abu Dhabi officials had the right idea when issuing a fatwa against the instruments on Thursday. We now fear a vuvuzela influx in time for the new domestic season.

4. Empty seats

These were a constant source of frustration throughout the tournament. There really should be no excuse for failing to fill a stadium for a World Cup game, and we are talking semi-finals as well as Slovakia v New Zealand here. If there are tickets remaining, FIFA should have given them to local schoolchildren rather than letting them lie fallow.

FIFA will say there are mitigating circumstances, with the global recession playing a part, transport problems highlighted and no-shows in the corporate seats having a significant effect, but the failure to sell out games is a disappointing one. Games between Algeria and Slovenia, and Japan and Cameroon had in excess of 10,000 spare seats going - a fact that reflects badly on the organising committee and indeed the tournament.

5. The Jabulani

The advent of every major tournament sees goalkeepers complain about the state of the official ball, no doubt looking to get their excuses in early when a shot squirms under their body, but this year was different. Goalkeepers, outfield players and coaches all lined up to lambast the Jabulani. Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo described it as "horrible", Iker Casillas said it behaved like a "beach ball" and, perhaps most damning of all, USA 'keeper Marcus Hahnemann simply said: "Scientists came up with the atom bomb, doesn't mean we should have invented it."

And when play got underway, there was something not right about the much-discussed ball. The vast majority of long-range shots were awful, accurate free-kicks were few and far between and even cross-field passes looked a real effort at times. However, Fabio Capello's attempt to blame the Jabulani for Robert Green's inability to grasp Clint Dempsey's shot was fairly laughable.

Suarez is a boss - he take one for the team - and I would want any Trini player in his position to do d same yes.
