Football / Re: Levi Garcia Thread
« on: August 17, 2021, 07:09:19 AM »
With the transfer window closing at the end of August, the clock is ticking away for teams to make the final additions to their squads. According to multiple reports, the Hornets might be nearing a deal to sign a player once deemed by former Watford head coach Vladimir Ivic as “the best player in Israel.”

Hornets Reportedly Eyeing Move for Levi Garcia

According to Israeli outlet Sport 5, echoing a report from Homme Du Match, Watford have submitted a substantial offer for winger Levi Garcia, with the figure thought to be at least £4 million. Sport 5 suggests AEK Athens may be looking for twice that sum to secure the 23-year-old’s services. Beitar Jerusalem is keeping a close eye on any progress for a deal regarding Garcia as they are set to receive 40% of his sale from the Greek side.

Garcia joined AEK Athens in the 2020 summer transfer window for a £2 million fee the year after he left Kiryat Shmona for Beitar Jerusalem in a £500,000 move. Numerous other clubs in Europe are reportedly vying for his services, including Levante.

Offers Versatility and Starting Competition if Signed

The Trinidad and Tobago international team player made his professional first-team breakthrough with AZ Alkmaar at the start of 2016. After making 44 Eredivisie appearances, notching three goals and six assists in the process, he made his move to the Israeli top-flight. With Kiryat Shmona, in all competitions, he scored three goals in 22 appearances.

The following season, with Beitar Jerusalem, the “very fast, dynamic, excellent in one-on-ones, and an ideal player to break through defenses,” as Ivic called him, scored six goals and provided three assists in 33 appearances. With AEK Athens, the raw talent Ivic raved about continued to turn itself into goal-contribution output. In 35 appearances, Garcia scored six times and provided seven assists.

Despite primarily lining up as an inverted right-winger last season, the left-footed attacker has played the majority of his career as a left-winger. In 93 career appearances as a left-winger, Garcia has scored 14 goals and provided an equal number of assists. As a right-winger, in 52 appearances, he tallied 11 goals and seven assists. He even has found success on multiple occasions at centre-forward, providing three assists and scoring twice in 12 matches in the position

Not Destined to Happen – Still Worth Keeping an Eye On

Whether a deal to bring Garcia to Watford is actually close to happening, even with the reports, is still hard to determine. Considering the attacking threat Watford showed in their victory against Aston Villa, and with Joshua King and Joao Pedro yet to return from injury, a move for yet another attacker does not seem the most necessary. Perhaps Garcia could be brought in and then loaned out to provide competition for out-on-loan right-winger Philip Zinckernagel for who Ismaila Sarr’s successor will be. If Garcia is to arrive in this transfer window and stay, then minutes for Ken Sema will quickly become scarce.

Nonetheless, Garcia is an exciting player with lots of raw talent and tremendous potential. A move is likely still a long way away from being completed as things stand, though if the shocking transfer were to be made, the Hornets’ faithful would have plenty to be excited about.

There are more Unattached players than what the squad list indicates:

  • Marvin Phillip is without a club since July 2020.
  • Duane Muckette is without a club since his contract ended with Memphis 901 FC.
  • Ryan Telfer is without a club since his contract ended with York United.
  • Jamal Jack is without a club since he left CSD Sacachispas by mutual consent earlier this year.
  • Matthew Woo Ling was last played with AC Port of Spain in March 2020. Allyuh really feel he still under contract and getting paid?
  • Sean Bonval last played with Central FC in March 2020. Allyuh really feel he still under contract and getting paid?
  • Andre Fortune is not with North Carolina FC anymore. He is searching for a new club.
  • Jonathan Jiminez is without a club after his contracted ended with RGV Toros.
  • Gary Griffith and Jesse Williams have not signed a contract with Coleraine FC. They may sign one in the future, but as of now, they are not contracted players. If that was the case they would be in Northern Ireland all now.

On top of that, Michel Poon-Angeron and Michael DeShields have not played a minute of pro football. Ajani Fortune is an academy player. Telfer hasn't scored a goal since 2019. Peña is not a regular for Valour FC. Carry on!

Half the squad is uncapped, and a further six of them have five or less caps.

squad has 5 goals between them

Football / Hart names caribbean cup squad
« on: October 03, 2014, 11:22:46 AM »

Trinidad and Tobago head coach Stephen Hart today announced his final 20-man squad to contest the semi-final round of the Caribbean Cup which kicks off next Wednesday versus Dominican Republic at the Ato Boldon Stadium from 8:15pm.

Hart will conduct his first training session with the squad on Saturday morning from from 9am at the Larry Gomes Stadium as the team heads into a live-in training camp.

His team is a formidable one with former national under 20 and W Connection defender Alvin Jones being the only relative newcomer while former National under 20 and Under 17 captain Leston Paul makes a return to the team.

Cardiff City forward Kenwyne Jones will captain the team which also includes US-based forward Trevin Caesar, Orlando City midfielder Kevin Molino, Slovakia-based winger Lester Peltier, US-based forward Cordell Cato of San Jose Earthquakes. Vietnam-based midfielder Hughtun Hector, Belgium-based midfielder Khaleem Hyland of Racing Genk, English-based duo Andre Boucaud and Justin Hoyte  Belgium-based defender Sheldon Bateau and Joevin Jones of Finnish club HJH Helsinki.

Vancouver Whitecaps defender Carlyle Mitchell and Daneil Cyrus along with fellow defender Yohance Marshall, US-based midfielder Kevan George and Central FC midfielder Ataulla Guerra have also been named in the team while the two goalkeepers are Jan Michael William and Marvin Phillips.

“This is the 20-man squad we’ve decided on and we’ll get things off with a light session on Saturday. It’s good for them to come together again as we haven’t seen each other since the games against Argentina and Iran in June,” Hart told TTFA Media.

“The players appear to be very enthusiastic and the mood is quite good which is what we want heading into the competition. It’s important for us to have the right approach which I am quite confident the team will have because these are all professional players who are very committed to doing what is right for the team and their country,” Hart added.

Back in the 2012 Caribbean Cup finals T&T had to depend on goals from the late Kevon Carter and Molino to overcome Dominican Republic 2-1, a win that secured T&T’s 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup place.

The Dominican Republic outfit this year includes three players based in Spain attached the reserve teams of teams in the Spanish La Liga. Forward Mariano is attached to the Real Madrid B team.

Cayetano 'Tano' Bartolomé Bonnín Vásquez, a 24-year-old centerback plays for Villarreal CF B which is the reserve team of Villarreal CF and plays in Segunda División B. Forward Edipo Rodriguez plays for Club Deportivo Numancia de Soria B, S.A.D. a Spanish sports club from Soria. They also have a player in midfielder Samuel Zayas who plays for Swiss First Division club Grenchen.

Their most notable player on the international stage is Jonathan Fana, formerly of W Connection who has 18 goals in 28 matches for his national team.

T&T will also face St Lucia on October 10th at 8:15pm and Antigua/Barbuda on Sunday October 12th at 6:15pm.  Wednesday’s opening match will feature St Lucia and Antigua/Barbuda from 6pm.  They are vying for a qualifying spot in the Caribbean Cup Finals which takes place in Montego Bay in November. Admission for the games is $100 (covered) and $60 (uncovered).

Manager wants to keep Jones, but fans don’t

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has said in no uncertain terms that he has no intention’ of selling Trinidad and Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones and winger Jermain Pennant.

Hughes comments were recorded in the Sentinel newspaper in England, after Jones scored on the weekend. However, while the Stoke manager seems sold on Jones being a Stoke player in the future, fans who commented on the article, adamantly felt the T&T player should be sold.

T&T captain Jones made only his 10th appearance of the season on Saturday as he scored during the Potters’ 2-1 win over Leicester City in the FA Cup third round.

When asked if the 29-year-old could leave the club in January, Hughes told The Sentinel newspaper: “That’s not the intention. We’ve had problems scoring goals and so we’ve got to keep players who can get you a goal, and he showed he’s an option for us.”

Jones saw action for the first time in five weeks when scoring the first item in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Leicester to tee up a fourth-round tie at Chelsea.

And Pennant didn’t even make the bench on Saturday after conceding a late penalty four days earlier—and being widely criticised for being pictured on the internet as Oussama Bin Laden at a fancy dress party.

But Hughes was pretty adamant about their immediate future by stating: “Kenwyne has had to be patient and I haven’t been able to give him too many opportunities.

“He lost his place to Peter (Crouch) and has had to bide his time, but when he plays like that he will always be a threat to teams.”

On Pennant, Hughes said there was no place on the bench because he needed defensive back-up, adding: “He’s here until the end of the season, at least.” Below are comments from the Sentinel newspaper.

SENTINEL COMMENTS:

Ladypotters72 - Sparky best tell Kenwyne it’s in his job description to score goals!!!

StokieJonesy1 - Sell Kenwyne. Buy Mame Biram Diouf

Comicrelief - All I have to ask in regards to this article is .Why not ?

Holeinhole - That’s them gone then! That’s have a good clean-out before that’s too late this term

RW Stripes - I’m sorry Kenwyne doesn’t show enough commitment or desire and only plays to his full potential one game in five. Yes he is great on his day, but his day is all too infrequent. I have said before if he had an ounce of Fuller’s aggression he would be unplayable and no centre half in the league would welcome facing him. Unless he ups his workrate, I’m afraid he needs to go.

Jeffrey12011 - Pennant is a liability. Let him go. Jones no longer inspires in the Prem. Let him go as well.

bex41 - The problem with Jones is that he only plays like he did against lower division teams, and we ought to let him go!

LiamOSullivan - So will Jones be offered a new five year contract and a well deserved raise in pay for record amount of time spent on the bench?

NBC is trying to take over a market that excludes Baseball and NFL.  They also outbid versus and some other channel for formula 1 racing.  They already show Division 2 college sports and "extreme" sports as well.  Taking out competitors Fox soccer, Cbs sports, versus, etc (American channels) I'm pretty sure this is going to be the first of many steps for NBC to try and become if not take over the number 1 sports market that ESPN is.

To be honest, I just want a station that showing only football. Not one where they fit in football matches and showing a bunch of other sports when there are matches they can show. ESPN shows one EPL match a week, no replays. The beauty about Foxsoccer is that it is football 24/7. Bein unlike Goltv shows football and other sports. Not interested, especially if none showing Bundasliga or football matches people who love the sport want to see.
