General Discussion / Re: Trinis head back home
« on: October 20, 2008, 08:00:35 AM »
my take on the situation is, if there is a mass exodus to trinidad, it will change for the better because our current people whos living there are unable to change the nation, expats have a better insight on how a well run country is supposed to be run and managed. Of course you will get the jealousy from the locals who have stayed but they aren't changing our nation for the better, because if they were, our country wouldn't be in the predictament it is in currently. By no means should grads locally not be able to get jobs but that is the government's fault for lack of diversification in the economy and the crime situation which drives away foreign investment which also creates domesic jobs.

This is the reason it is good that ex pats come back home and take over the situation so our nation could turn around and everyone will benefit.

That digicel team was not that bad for a mostly local squad. I remember Scott Sealy came, played the first match and then none after. K Baptiste and he yellow boots only want to beat. Tinto played alright
Theobald tried to play the Yorke roleHardest play alright.Glasgow throw way too many goals in that tournament.

What I remember most is Daryl tho. Played well every time he was on the field. So I would like to know why you said a weak forward line??? The forward line was not the best, but it wasn't "weak".

i understand your point of view but glasgow and sealy were not up to par, roberts shined and with only one striker, it was a weak forward line, our midfield had the two backbones, theobald and jemmott, our defense was the main reason for the loss in the final.

hopefully cornmeal not around that time, because another set of biased picks will be forthcoming

6844
Being new to the board and being a lurker for several years I've noticed that many posters tend to forget that anton corneal is at the head of the selection of the team, with the blessings of jw. It is because of him, players like pacheco, noray, tinto, sancho, dwarika, theobald, jemmott, josh johnson and many others who are not in his biased list, can't see a national call up. Under Wim many players got a chance for the digicel, he may not have been a great coach in terms of giving the locals a fair assesment, or boosting their self esteem but he picked better teams locally and gave many locals a chance, under corneal, he picks players who he favours, which more than often is not based on skill or talent, but on who he likes personally.

We as supporters then blame maturana who is not even responsible for the selection of the team, nobody has asked the question as to whether maturana has ever attended a local pfl match or super league match, maybe I'm wrong but I have never read about it. He really doesn't need to because Corneal picks the team and knows what he wants, not what is best for T&T football.

conTroversIal, welcome to the board. that last line seem to sum it up. if corneal has become indispensable (like jack), then sadly the players have to follow suit. what setup you have in mind where players could be selected without "bias"?

change the assistant coach, its as simple as that, when wim was in charge, corneal had to take a back seat, only with regards to the blacklist of the foreign based, was the only time wim's selection power was diminished. Otherwise, it is clear that a neutral party who takes interest in the local game will see the best players, wim did this, thats why the players mentioned above got a chance, even the likes of errol mcfarlane was also given a shot at the forward position.

Im not saying wim was the ideal coach or instilled confidence in the local players but at least he picked the best available, we reached the digicel final with a weak backline and forward line, the midfield was the only plus, but now we can't even see those players on the national team, namely because corneal's power has been strengthened.

I remember lisana liburd, keith smith and many others highlighting the play of the midfield during the last digicel cup and theat if the blacklist were to end, with the best local based, we would have a very strong squad, up to now, i haven't seen the strongest side stand up, corneal has made them sit down or get out.

6845
i have seen Maturana in pro league games now and then on tv

which games? because i find it hard to believe a national coach is here and there, which is clear corneal is selecting the team because corneal knows the local players.

pacheco is still good on the left, hes matured and got stronger, noray is another excellent option for the wing, too bad corneal picks the team based on bias and not skill and talent

The problem for JA is goal difference...and even if Honduras draw with Mexico and JA beat Canada..I belive Honduras will get through on goal difference..If Honduras beat Mexico then JA outcome with Canada wont matter..but I hope things work out for them cause Trinbagonians will like nothing better than cutting JA arse in a the hex next year

We already counting T&T and El Salvador as a sure 12 points in the Hex if we make it. Easy games
I'm thinking the same thing. An easy 12 points for the Reggae Boyz against T&T and El Salvador. And seeing as Mexico won't go 3 games without a victory Jamaica will be in the Hex which will ensure those 12 points.

last time i checked we drew with a b team against the yardies on both occasions, now we have our full team, i doubt ja will see the light of day, i want ja to make the hex bc it will be a sure 6 points.

Scotty...to me it seems that scotty is good in the sense that he can hold the ball, he opens up the play, and he's big and strong.

When playing scotland tho, we need to have another forward with him, at his side, not behind him, like a 442. Kenwyne Jones and Scotland infront would be DEADLY, cuz scotty ability to hold up de ball, Jones hv he feet and wicked speed...thats is ah recipe for goals.

So answering ya question, scotty is good, but cld be WAY better if he has that support upfront, with support from the likes of kenwyne jones. Scotty is look like ah big muscle man running down dem ball.
Not necessarily another forward, but an attacking midfielder who will run past him and collect de pass. Somebody in Latas role but with legs.

yea all that cld work! :beermug:

But yuh see, is really support the man is need, i find we shldnt be playing ah 4 5 1 rite tru so...especially when we need to score, hyland is a good recommendation for an attacking midfielder...(like latas with legs!)
but it always good to hv latas on de field tho...

basically i will summarize what you just said my friend, if we are playing 451 we shouldnt play a shithong like scotty alone as the target man, we should play a 442 if scotty is there, if we play a 451, glen or roberts should start, bc jones is still not 100%

U acting like if yuh never gone to ah sweat yuh not accustomed 2 and find it hard to play.... even doh in yuh heart, yuh know, yuh not playing at your top level..... Give Jason some time nuh.... He did not score in the First and Champion Divisions by fluke......

differeent type of football, championship and wcq is two entirely different types of ball, we need a striker to run at defenders and fight, roberts and glen fits the bill, scotty too slow and can't dribble and beat or create to save his life; why must we wait and give chances when we have 2 more capable players riding pine for a shithong

ive seen defenders blow past avery and he pelt blade and get a yellow before but fellahs still love him to death for whatever reason,

While I for one would not have Akile Edwards anywhere near the T&T team at the moment, he did do enough not to be a total embarassment like he was against the US in Chicago, and we won the game.  Yuh cyah fault that.

Avery plays for me because I haven't seen anyone better in that position.  That said, Avery should have cost us the Guatemala game on Saturday with his totally idiotic and uncalled for challenge on the Guat player, in the area, in the 80 somethingth minute of de game.  That was a penalty and it was only the referee's ineptitude that saved us from it being rightfully called.  For that alone, Avery coulda get drop.  As asinine and bonehead a play as you could ever see from an allegedly experienced player.

well cyd plays a good left back also, as well as nigel daniel, seon power was atrocious in passing but had the speed and dribbling, spann did well for his first time back and lack of match practise with the team. I think nigel daniel would be another good option to explore if he is fit and up to par again.

You need either reading glasses or reading classes or both.

20/20 vision, i think your replaying the DR game a lil too much, your beginning to believe scotty is actually a good striker or better than glen and roberts

people must understand the defenders are responsible for the build up of attack, the transition, spann is a wise choice and knows how to dribble and pass, also cross and is good in dead ball situations, if we have no build up from the back, how the hell will we survive against teams like costa rica and honduras in the hex? especially since they will pressure our wing backs and cut off their passing lanes. we need a defender like spann who could dribble and pass and build the attack for latas and yorke, cyd doesnt have the passing ability nor the crossing or dribbling skills like spann.
All dat sounding nice going forward. Now what about de defending part?
What about the speed part ? ah hear fellas talking bout first game back, but the bredder doh have no speed! i saw beasley blow past the man on ah few occasions like he was ah training cone.

there's no excuse for that, it could prove costly @ the next level. we just cannot afford that kind of ineptitude on our defensive flanks. he needs to work on speed or no deal!

alright howie its a deal, but spann is faster than what he played last night, ive seen defenders blow past avery and he pelt blade and get a yellow before but fellahs still love him to death for whatever reason, in all honestly akile did well this time because he had tallest there and ince commanding his defenders well, he has potential and did not shitdong himself, thank god, avery will play against cuba, so dont worry and mr rampage himself will be back on the right to inflict bodily harm on the strikers :beermug:

Now scotland is a good player and has done well for his club, however some players are better for their club than their country, scottie has a stern john finish, they are similar players.

From watching the game I believe scottie needs to come off the bench because he was not effective, I saw mistrapping and throwing away chances, when he had a chance to dribble into the box he passed. Hes a poacher in every sense of the word.

The coaching staff should start roberts and sub on glen, john doesn't look 100% and should not have been subbed in. It is obvious when jones returns he will start, but the 2nd and 3rd option should be roberts and glen. They are the opposite of john and scottie and we need that variation upfront.

Way alyuh learn football. Scottie work really hard. He played vertically and horizontally. This kept at least 3 US defenders busy. He had little help when he got the ball and did well to hold up the ball. His work rate was great.

Stern did not replicate such work and the Coach missed when he made that sub as it gave the US defenders the opportunity to go forward. That was one of the reason the US pushed on the out of timing sub.

Scotland did well,, his early shots and deft touche, made the defender have to play behind him as they could not take the chance to cheat forward for fear that Scottie will exploit a back 2.

I have to agree with Elan with respect to Jason Scotland's good performance.  I think scottie was very effective.  He needs to sharpen up a bit but overall he was very good and he kept the US back line under pressure.

what game allyuh watching? the DR replay ???
To people like yourself who are probably not as knowlegable about the game, it may appear that Scottie was not effective at all.  His game definitly could have been better but he was actually very effective.  He was effective because the defenders were really focused on him and that gave other players more space. He was also strong enough to hold the ball up and lay it off to other guys. His movement across the field and his willingness to close down defenders when they won possesion helped our midfield get back into position and it forced defenders to give up corner kicks.  These are the type of things that less knowlegable people don't notice and dont give credit for. However these things have a huge effect on the outcome of the game. I am also a huge fan of cornel glen, Daryl Roberts and Stern John, but it's up to the people in charge to pick the starting squad and choose the players that fit into their tactical plan.  I think Glen was injured anyway.

well with your infinite wisdom you have seemed to forget that roberts and glen also help the midfield and run back on defense, and they also create space for the midfielders, not to mention they run at defenders and create opportunities, unlike scotland and they also score on occasion, unlike scotland, not to mention they trap the ball better and can actually dribble against defenders, barring glen was injured, roberts would have been a better choice by far, especially since we now have a creative midfielder, just wanted to highlight those points to people who feel they are knowledgable about the game of football.

scotland cant even score against cuba, why would you start him, start roberts and glen, you will the wonders they will perform, especially with latas passing to them

With the formation Pacho playing, yuh can't and should not start both Roberts and Glenn.

I was referring to the 442 the other poster was referring to, if he was to go 442, it should be glen and roberts, since we know it will not be a 442 but a 451, roberts should start with glen off the bench, scottie can ride pine because he seems to be as effective on the bench as he is on the field

silvio played well at right back, he has to get back into the swing of things but he doesnt give away the ball that easy and held down the right flank
He allowed the winger to run past him on occasion!

twice but he caught up, the man never even train with the team, far less hasnt played for how long, i guess you rather joyce or wild man cyd who cant pass and cross like spann?
