I am amazed that no one has interviewed, nor ask our new coach about his experience at the Gold cup.
 !-What was the standard like/
 2- Which teams impressed him?
3- Having seen most of the teams and having seen tapes of T&T football, Where are we in terms of tactics , fitness and the way Forward.
I think it is time for some sport investigative reporting.

Bermuda bring in the New Year with deserved draw
By Josh Ball (The Royal Gazette)

Nahki Wells scored Bermuda's first goal of the New Year as the Under-23s battled their way to a deserved draw against Trinidad & Tobago at the National Sports Centre yesterday.

Wells, whose man-of-the match performance saw him cover more ground than almost any other player on the pitch, struck early in the second half of a game in which neither side ever really settled into any kind of rhythm.

The goal cancelled out Jean Luc Rochford's 16th minute rocket, the highlight of an otherwise tepid affair which was characterised by sloppy passing, niggly fouls, and an uneven physical match-up that exposed Bermuda as just a little too lightweight for this level of football.

That isn't to say that the home side weren't aggressive. They battled hard, more often than not illegally, and Antonio Lowe was a rock at the centre of a defence which was vastly improved from the first game.

Their overall shape was better too, however they were let down on occasion by a lack of movement, and a midfield that, Wells aside, was largely annonymous for the majority of yesterday's game.

"I thought Nakhi Wells can play at a higher level than we saw today," said coach Scott Morton. "He has superior technical ability but must learn what we need from him tactically. His ability is endless.

"Defensively we were better than we were in the first game. We changed things around and I felt Antonio Lowe's pace at the back gave us a bit more balance."

Not that Bermuda had to be at their best because the Soca Warriors' hectic schedule of three games in five days finally caught up with them, and at times they struggled to get out of neutral.

Striker Jamal Clarance played on the fringes of the game for most of the hour that he was on the pitch, and while his replacement Jerrel Britto proved more of a threat, the rather disjointed nature of the Trinidad performance often left him without enough support to be truly effective.

They also allowed the home side's rather robust approach to knock them out of their stride, which given that T&T are both taller and stronger than their Bermuda counterparts is something they should never have allowed to happen.

Even so, having taken the lead through Rochford, who reacted quickest when Nicholas Walker's corner came back of the back post and rifled in a shot from 20 yards out, Trinidad would have been confident of picking up their third win of the tour.

However, several half chances aside, they failed to seriously test Bermuda goalkeeper Daniel Johnson for the rest of the half and were made to pay for it soon after the restart.

Some good work by Devrae Tankard down the left saw him skip past several challenges, glide into the penalty box and play a perfect pass to Wells, who side-footed the ball home from 12 yards out.

Both teams had chances to win the game in the second half. Britto headed straight at Johnson when clean through and Reggie Lambe scuffed a shot he should have done far better with.

In the end though a draw was a fair result, and gives Bermuda a platform on which to build for the rest of the year.

The third and final match of this Trinidad tour of Bermuda got underway with the visitors attacking with the wind at their backs. After some ten minutes neither team has tested the goalkeepers, however some six minutes later Jean Luc Rochford had a shot from some 30 yards fly into the back of the net beating a diving Daniel Johnson. In the 20th minute Johnson got his fingers to tip a drive from Rochford over the crossbar. In the 38th minute Johnson failed to collect a through ball cleanly and Jamal Clarance was able to take control of the ball but Ajani Gibbons was able clear he ball before Clarance could get a shot off.

In the 51st minute Bermuda equalized, Devraer Tankard beat two Trinidad players to the ball on the half way line and ran into the box and his cross was put away by Nahki Wells. In the 80th minute Trinidad substitute Stephen Campbell had a shot turned over the crossbar by Johnson. A hard fought game came to an end with Trinidad going unbeaten over the three matches, finishing with two wins and one draw.

Two trinis played yesterday- Julius James and Avery John. Avery looked good when he came on in the second half making some runs on the wing and good long passes. Excellent defending . Julius looks dangerous on cornerkicks but got caught out ball watching on a couple of occasions. What is the verdict on him? I dont think he is quite ready for this campaign.

Football / The Way Forward for Latapy
« on: April 12, 2009, 08:02:06 PM »
Having read the opinion of our forumities and listening to the opinion of former team mates. this is my honest opinion. Latapy should have a meeting with all the pro league coaches, then meet with Gally and Bertille.
The purpose is to ascertain who do they recommend for the defensive positions- Right back -left back- Centre back etc. The focus is on defence as that is clearly our weakness. Then organise a friendly against - Venezuela and see how the players respond. The coach should be looking for Passion- Commitment and- Fitness as was know in the old days- Blood, sweat and tears.
Today is Easter  and I am sure that Resurrection of this side is possible if we can only remove the stone of complacency and doubt and fear.

With Scotland in form and KJ scoring should we play  scotland / Jones or go with maturana 4-5-1. With the knowledge that we are so influential in gaining contracts or lack thereof. And with the knowledge that the powers that be read this site maybe we can influence the process, Attack is the best means of defence,
I have the feeling that we can get 6points from our two matches.

United States rout El Salvador to finish on-top.
By: Howard Ulman (AP Sports Writer).
[/size]

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Landon Donovan got plenty of help from DaMarcus Beasley -- and from a controversial call that led to a key goal -- as the United States breezed into the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Americans beat El Salvador 4-0 on Tuesday night, getting their first goal from Beasley and a big lift when Donovan converted a penalty kick in first-half injury time.
"It makes a big difference to go into half with a two-goal lead," U.S. coach Bob Bradley said, "but I think we felt like they were starting to get tired and that they put an awful lot into the first 20 minutes."
El Salvador coach Carlos De Los Cobos was ejected at halftime when he argued that Mexican referee Benito Archundia shouldn't have awarded a penalty kick when the ball hit the hand of Alfredo Pacheco just inside the penalty area. De Los Cobos said the contact was unintentional.
"It changed the whole way that the game went on, so it wasn't fair. It was a quick call," De Los Cobos said. "That took the whole team down. They were very disappointed. It affected the way they played in the second half."
Beasley had his first two-goal game in nearly two years, scoring in the 34th and 89th minutes, and Taylor Twellman scored in the 73rd for the defending champions, who play their quarterfinal on Saturday at Foxborough.
With 31 goals, Donovan moved past Brian McBride into sole possession of second place on the American career scoring list, three behind Eric Wynalda.
The United States dominated the second half, allowing Bradley to use several substitutes.
"Ideally, you'd have one lineup that can play the whole time," Donovan said.
Beasley, who scored his first goal following Donovan's corner kick, agreed that the penalty kick was the turning point.
"That pretty much put them on their heels," Beasley said.
Beasley has 15 goals for the national team. His previous two-goal game was against Jamaica during the Gold Cup in July 2005.
It was the third straight shutout in the Gold Cup for the Americans (3-0), who finished atop Group B with nine points, followed by Guatemala (1-1-1), which tied Trinidad and Tobago 1-1. El Salvador (1-2) has little chance of advancing.
The United States beat Guatemala 1-0 and Trinidad and Tobago 2-0, clinching advancement after two games, and is the only team in the 12-nation tournament that hasn't allowed a goal.
The United States is 4-0 against El Salvador in the Gold Cup, outscoring the Central Americans 12-0, and is 21-0-1 in group-play games of the tournament, the championship of soccer's North and Central American and Caribbean region. The Americans are 7-0-1 since Bob Bradley replaced Bruce Arena as coach.
The teams played fairly aggressively in the first 20 minutes before the Americans gained control.
The second-half goals, Bradley said, were "a nice reward for the hard work early in the match and playing through the stretch where I thought El Salvador was compact and organized."
Beasley was the Golden Boot winner of the 2005 Gold Cup after getting three goals and four assists. He put the Americans ahead 1-0 when Donovan's corner kick bounced out off a crowd to him, and he beat goalkeeper Miguel Montes from just inside the 18-yard line.
Beasley popped a clear shot from 15 yards out high over the crossbar in the 42nd minute, then was stopped when Montes tipped his shot over the crossbar in the 43rd.
Donovan's first attempt on the penalty kick was stopped by Montes, with Donovan poking in the rebound, but Archundia ruled that Montes had stepped off the goal line early. Donovan sent his next kick down the middle as Montes anticipated another shot to his left and went in that direction.
After the goal by Twellman, who plays for MLS's New England Revolution of MLS on the same field, Beasley scored from 8 yards off a pass from Dempsey, a former New England star.

Notes - U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard handled a few tough shots in his second appearance of the tournament. ... The United States played without MLS scoring leader Eddie Johnson, who has a sprained right knee.

Football / Endurance the Secret Advantage.
« on: April 12, 2006, 02:40:28 PM »
I just heard from a friend who was at the T&T games in Dallas. The problem he said was the fitness level, which was also a problem with the under 21.
Here is a Quote from Men"s Health- The fittest not only survive, they excel. The ability to resist fatique longer than yout opponent ensures that you will outperform him when you need that little extra, whether you are hustling after a loose ball. sprinting for the finishing line .or driving hard for the last shot. The better your physical condition. the bigger your edge in every sport.
In this article they highlighted - Landon Donovan- Donovan's breakthrough strategy is  to understand true endurance- It means ,simply to outlast. Can you perform at a higher level for a longer time than your opponent? can you outlast your own self destructiveness, such as pride and anger ( hardest take note - once described as the next latapy )
