Football / Argentina hits back (funny)
« on: June 06, 2006, 03:14:15 PM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wydD0zCgFo

An Argentine commercial for a newspaper called OLE........ seems to be a response at Guarana dressing Maradonna up in Brazil gear......which cause quite an uproar in Argentina.

for those who don't understand spanish, the Argentine boy says something to the effect of "dad I have something to tell you........ I'm Brazilian"......

Football / Defoe in goal ?
« on: April 19, 2006, 01:51:47 PM »
Just saw an ADIDAS commercial where two youths picked their own dream teams to play against eachother....One team had Khan in goal, and for the other, the youth gave the gloves to Defoe ??

Anyone know anything about Defoe being able to keep ? (Has he ever kept in a game- red carded keeper for eg. ?)...just curious

by the way, the commercial real bad....retro Platini & Beckenbauer made a cameo.....

Football / Dwight Yorke scores 4 out of 10........
« on: April 09, 2006, 04:23:26 PM »
..........in a World Cup quiz on Football Mundial (GolTV).......I was surprised he did so poorly on a football quiz....especially since I knew all the answers.  ;D

Some of the questions he didn't know:

Who scored Jamaica's two goals against Japan in WC '98......(Whitmore)

How many times have Brazil won the World Cup (5)

Who was the only player to score a hattrick in a World cup final (Hurst)

Who was the first African team to make it to the quarterfinal (Cameroon)

Who scored the first goal in the 2002 WC (Papa Bouba Diop spelling ??)

Can't remember the other one he got wrong....thankfully one of the questions he got correct was:

Who prevented T&T from qualifying for WC '90..............

Football / What US programs are our youths at ?
« on: April 04, 2006, 03:51:06 PM »
Our U21 team is currently completing a horrid performance in the CAC qualifiers. I listened to the interviews conducted by O'cconor, Patriot & crew and one of the things that jumped out at me was the significant number of players that we had playing in US Colleges. I have a couple questions out of curiosity, that I hope some of the knowledgeable folks on here can help me out with....or perhaps just give an opinion.

1. What are the various programs at which our overseas players play ?

2. Are any of these programs "reputable"? What are their seasonal records ? Who are the coaches and what have they won ?

3. What does our technical staff know about these programs ?

4. Were our overseas based youth more talented than our locals at the College's league level ?

5. Based on the two performances of the U21, are the overseas youth exhibiting superior ability than our local players ?

Below is the end of 2005 NCAA Mens DIV 1 top 25 ranked football/soccer programs.........there are many other good programs in the States, but just as an exercise, compare the answer to question No.1 to the list below.....might be interesting. It's good to see that we're expanding our scouting base, but I just wonder how strategic such an expansion is, and whether or not the quality of the scouting base is improving with such expansion.....food for thought.

Football / How would T&T have done against Germany this afternoon ?
« on: March 22, 2006, 03:59:10 PM »
Especially interested to hear from those who saw our game against Iceland & who actually watched the U.S.-Germany match......(of course everyone is welcome to contribute)

Be honest....just trying to gauge where we the fans honestly think we're at in our preparations...lemme hear your opinion.

69
They were criticizing the fairness of the FIFA ranking system and an example of unfairness that they gave was:

"USA gets the same amount of points for a victory over Trinidad & Tobago, as England gets for a victory against Argentina"..........

Of course they make a valid point, but geez, but it hurt meh a little that they use us as the example.......

Football / thoughts on Dida
« on: January 28, 2006, 02:26:24 PM »
Before the 2002 WC he was Brazil's no.1 for a while but lost the first spot to Marcos who I thought was really good.

This season, I've watched quite a few of Milan's games (watching one now)......and I have to say that I am surprised that Dida is still Milan's starting goalkeeper, and I wouldn't be surprised if he lost the Brazil starting spot to Julio Cesar (Inter's keeper).....I've seen him makes some terrific saves in the past, but the number of schoolboy errors that he makes is not fitting of a starting keeper for Milan & Brazil......He also looks shaky on many routine saves. (The goal he just conceded from Sampdoria was atrocious).

Anyone think he's overrated ?.......or just a little out of form/lacking confidence ?

Any fans of Dida, Brazil, or goalkeeping experts...I'd like to get your opinion.

« on: November 15, 2005, 10:45:39 PM »

Once again we are down on our knees...........lift us up.

Father there aren't many words left to say
So I just want to say thanks.....
Thanks on behalf of the family here on the forum
Thanks on behalf of every believer of this dream, at home and abroad
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to smile, laugh and bond together under one common goal.
Thanks for blessing us with a squad of warriors that has made us proud
Thanks for taking us through this campaign alive safe & healthy
Thanks for giving the dutchman the heart and the belief to adopt us
Thanks for bringing back our prodigal sons....we deserved it, and so did they
All I ask is that even after this campaign is over, that we maintain in our hearts, the spirit of this amazing campaign
Whether it's football or not, Trinidad and Tobago, needs to vibes it up
Father you know what we want, and your will be done...so I will beg no more...
Our fate is in your hands........ so we just give thanks

Once again we are down on our knees, lift us up..........

Football / Jack Warner shows solidarity (rumors)
« on: November 15, 2005, 05:54:50 PM »
According to rumors (a phone call from my mother).......

Jack Warner has decided to sit with the fans behind the goal post as opposed to in the VIP section as a sign of protest against the way that the Warriors have been treated in Bahrain.....According to the rumors:

1) Our rhythm section is not allowed into the stadium
2) They only gave us 5 balls to train with in the first session
3) They put our fans in some of the worse seats (behind the goal)...after we gave them prime seating in the Stadium on Saturday.

Jack Warner in his response, has decided to sit with the fans as opposed to the VIP box......

Now that is what we talkin' bout...........In the face of adversity, we will UNITE AND WE WILL WIN !!

Go Warriors !!!

Can anyone confirm that this is true ?

79
Reading the posts this morning you would almost forget we have one more game left.

Why are we being so emotionally fickle. We expect our players to keep their heads up, and we can't do the same...shame on us.

Carlos Edwards was  God after the Mex game, now there are threads aimed at crying him down......what the f**k ??!!!!!!!!

Yesterday's game was a let down, but for God's sake, the scores are all square. I can't agree with Touches saying that our result yesterday was equivalent to a loss......that is not true. The only way we could believe that is if we have no faith that we can score against Bahrain on the road. If that is our mindset, then we're wasting time..........If an uphill battle incites fear in us, then we don't deserve to call ourselves warriors..

Come on forumites, get over yesterday. I know it's tough, but shake it off and let's VIBES IT UP again. We have 90 mins left. The party now start  fellas !!!

Let's get the the positive threads goin' again.

This is a true test of our resolve.........and we ent goin out cryin' at least not me...........

Football / One chapter left- my take on the game in summary
« on: November 12, 2005, 07:09:02 PM »
Positives:

1. We didn't lose
2. We scored one of the best goals in our history
3. Whitley continues to improve and may soon be our leader
4. Bahrain is not good

Negatives:

1. Our defense did not mark well today, and we were too slow (almost reluctant) to close down the opposition, especially in the middle of the field
2. Latapy didn't show up...there was no sense of urgency from him.
3. Avery had a nightmare of a game
4. Our play was too slow and there was not nearly enough movement off the ball
5. We gave up a poor goal (we refused to close down a casually taken short corner)

Going forward:

We can win on the road, but we need to play the game like it's the last 90 minutes of our lives. Surprisingly (disappointly sp ?)we didn't do that today.

We always knew there would be 2 chapters to this and now it's on to the second chapter. We finally know for sure how good Bahrain is, and it's encouraging, because they are noting to fear. I think our boys were nervous, and rightly so. Shake the nerves off warriors and do your business- it's as simple as that.

Congrats to Bahrain, they played the perfect away team game. It's obvious that their mindset is on result-oriented football, and they don't care about playing well. They picked their spots well and nearly punished us at times. They faked injuries, rolled around on the ground like a bunch of whores, wasted time of restarts, and were overall poor sportsmen but good gamesmen. They did their business at on the road, and I give them credit........... now it's our turn to do ours....

Go Warriors !!!!

Football / The kicker prayer pt3....as requested
« on: November 11, 2005, 03:11:29 PM »
Once again we are down on our knees. Lift us up.

Father we have reached the final 180 minutes of an unforgettable journey
These final minutes are the fabric upon which 1.2 million hopes and dreams lie
We’ve come this far and we refuse to fall now
Some have waited decades and some have only just woken up
Nevertheless we are all awake now.
Father Trinidad & Tobago feels like a nation once again for the first time since November 19th 1989
And we thank you for that
We thank you for all the fallen soldiers who have trodden the beaten path
And we thank you for our warriors today who continue to fight this long hard fight
Father bless our army this weekend as they fight for us
Behind the warm winds and tropical skies, Trinidad & Tobago is crying
Trinidad & Tobago is tired
Trinidad & Tobago is holding on
We are holding on for moments like this.
Father let this moment be ours
As always, remind our boys that no one comes into our house and has their way…no one
Remind them that anything less than their best effort is unfair punishment for our undying support
Father recognize how difficult it is for us to say to you, that we will accept your will, regardless of the outcome
Recognize this and please spare us the pain……please
Father we know in our hearts that this is T&T time.
All we ask is your assurance.

Once again we are down on our knees. Lift us up.
Amen

General Discussion / Crime and social change

None of these could happen by itself, but for the sake of argument, if one of these things could happen by itself, which one would you hope most for T&T in the long run interest of our disturbing crime situation ?

Football / A great story...we lived to see it.
« on: October 22, 2005, 05:43:42 PM »
We get accused of corruption in drawing an easy first round group.

We get one point from our first 3 games in the hex.

We hire a new coach, and get 12 from our remaining 7 games. (including a 100% home record)

In both of the last two home games we came from behind. One of those come-backs involved 2 goals in the dying minutes (including injury time).

Our skipper came back out of int'l retirement, our lil magician did the same........

Our CONCACAF counterparts once again accuse us of bribery & corruption

Bahrain suspends its domestic league to prepare for us....

Jamaica "sells out" and helps our opponents by hosting their 8 day training camp...

Foreign based citizens who once turned their backs are beginning to believe......

Former skipper and team scout accepts (possibly) a position from Bahrain a week after losing his job on our team.......

We over-come the odds and beat Bahrain and qualify for the World Cup ??

Fellas, this kinda thing is what movies are made of. This is the  story that we gonna tell our children and grandchildren in years to come....But how will it end ? Right now we have the power to affect the course of history.........I seein' real men gettin' their feathers ruffled, and gettin' into fights with all kinda a$$holes, and gettin' scared and flustered with all the distractions around us......

Fellas all these things goin' on around us right now, are just supposed to make the victory sweeter. They're just supposed to add to the drama, and make the story sweeter.......

Lately de vibe slippin' lil bit (understandably), so this post is just a reminder to keep vibesin it up !!! It's too easy to get caught up in the present........Sometimes yuh have to look back at where we came from to put things back in perspective.........

with every piece of news that we get, we have to take it like real warriors............otherwise we're just pretenders....

Germany we comin'.......

Football / 7 thoughts/questions.......answers and opinions welcome
« on: October 18, 2005, 09:29:02 PM »
1. Why are people so averse to over-confidence by fans here on the forum ? Every thread about Trinidad in Germany '06 is replied to by "boy cool it nah...we eh beat Bahrain yet" "wait till we win to start talkin' bout Germany" ............. What are we afraid of ? What harm could be done by supporter over-confidence ?

2. Who is gonna replace Latapy & Yorke after the campaign ? Y'all doh find we've been holding on to these two fellas for too long.......If the messiah of T&T football is 37 years old.....some serious work needs to be done.....anyone see any local talent that they honestly think could be the next Latas, or Yorke etc ??

3. If JLloyd got a chance and got selected:

a. Would your support for the warriors diminish ?
b. How many good performances would it take for him to win the support of us (in general) here on the forum ?

4. If you somehow got inside factual information, that Jack paid off Mexico for our game last Wednesday would you:

a. Spread the word and try to kill the vibe of our campaign
b. Keep quiet and just personally lock off the team
c. Say "so what ....it's about time we got a lucky break....might as well just enjoy the ride"

5. What if we discovered three Birchall's at the same time ?, the actual Birchall, a left back, and a left winger- 3 White, english born Trinis with enough talent to replace some of our players, the desire and heart to join the team,  and who will play with everything they have for T&T for the rest of their lives. Would you welcome them ? How would that affect your opinion of the same Birchall that we have now adopted as our own ? Is Birchall loved partially because he's the token white foreign-based ?? How far does your patriotism and unconditional support stretch ?

6. Will this team be remembered like the strike squad ? This team has reached as far, and has the potential to go further than the strike squad....but somehow I think the strike squad is still closer to everyone's hearts. Is this true ? and if yes, why is that ?

7. Where is Reggae Fan ?

Football / keep it football fellas.....
« on: October 17, 2005, 06:00:50 PM »
Fellas,

I realized that in the last couple days, we gettin' into some talks with some of our brethren from Bahrain, that are going beyond football. People throwing out racist talks, and bringing negative talk about islam and foreign cultures onto the board. Fellas let that stop right here. This is football, and there is no room for that nonsense. We complain about racism corroding football in Europe etc, and still some of us Trinis on the board are doing the same.......Talking about smokin' camel dust etc......not cool .............

Let's welcome our Bahrain brothers, and let them know that their World Cup dreams will end on Nov 16th....but in a healthy way.....Let's ignore allegations of cheating and bribery being thrown at us......and most of all, let us not respond to racist talks with racism....Do not stoop to that level.  We bigger than that.........

The forum vibes was real nice before.........Lewwe keep it so.

This is a football forum. Let's ignore all derogatory talks of race, religion and culture and deal with the matter at hand- a football match (or 2 matches). Please please, let's end that sh*t right here...............and let's start vibesin' it up again.

thanks
